OPINION POLL: Willard Networks | Serious Vs. Semi-Serious

directly inbetween the two

simultaneously a goof fest and a place where you can find people who play good characters

schrödinger's seriousness

Yep. basically this, nothing like singing the lyrics to big iron in LOOC to 10 minutes later seeing the slums catch fire, perfectly balanced as all things should be

Willard has made many oofs but despite all of that, it is not Semi-serious. It definitely has leaned away from being totally serious, enough that the 'threat' of general living is pretty dissolved, but it is still Serious.

Remember, everyone. We've witnessed over the previous few months a practical cardiac-arrest of the semi-serious-roleplay community in regards to Half Life 2: Roleplay, where their players had begun a migration from semi-serious, to serious. The sudden shift is confusing, often isolating, but also magnetically attracting and mysterious in its own right.

Though I don't doubt that some instances on the server can be less than proving for a full serious atmosphere, along with characters created which the staff know who to look out for - the serious atmosphere in my opinion highly exists. A push in a direction for narrative which solidifies creative freedom ultimately is a final overcoming boundary for serious roleplay to be 100% dominant.

While the main server is a primary hub which attracts all forms of players and mindsets, though events like in Short Stories and Expeditions are truly the mark of that critically valued serious roleplay atmosphere. Just needs a nudge in a direction, though we're all banking over specific circumstances over the next two to three weeks.

I'd really push everyone seeing this poll to make your voice heard. For it gives us clearer guidance on what exactly it is we should be doing next.

its 100% not semi-serious.

idk what you mean by "serious" but anything that forces you to completely roleplay your character without having the ability to talk or bring OOC stuff IC (like Willard) then it's serious, imo.

of course the grinding exists, the turn-based combat, expeditions, retarded moments, people wanting to have scripts.

but that's just something every large-scale serious roleplay server has and those are just gameplay aspects that are there so the game isn't boring and dull

People need to stop putting things in their descriptions that other characters by simply looking at or talking to them briefly would be unable to know (mental disorders, backstories...)

When I think of semi-serious roleplay, I think of people talking over microphones, characters with basic personalities that are moreso stereotypes that are quick and easy to understand, and OOC regularly leaking into IC. I haven't seen much of that outside of newer players, but it's almost inevitable that Garry's Mod is going to attract people who either let roleplay take a backseat to the gameplay loop, or are learning and trying to understand the concept. (It's easy to forget how foreign the concept of serious roleplay can be to someone who hasn't been exposed to it!)

If you mean in the sense of humor/overall brightness, I think Willard's community does a pretty good job at handling a good balance. If you have a world and community that's entirely grim darkness where everyone must suffer without respite, where every piece of humor and lightheartedness gets shut down, all you'll have is a dark, empty room. You need to have those fun, light moments to really get people attached, which people tend to overlook in favor of doubling down on grimdark grit.

As a player who directly immigrated from Impulse, two months prior to its shutdown.

Willard, by all means isn’t a Semi-Serious RP Server. In the Semi-Serious Community there’s little to no RP in general. Occasionally you’d see some form of RP Scenarios going on. But the Semi-Serious Playerbase is compromised of Minges, who’ll refer to you as a “Roblox RPer” for /me looks at the wall.

I have yet to see Willard turn into a lawless minge fest, where players are hosting micspamming music-raves 24/7 at your local bar. Building Poop-Factories, or running around with their E2’s that make them a flying Homer Simpson head.

Typically Semi-Serious has no Plot nor Active Story. It’s like an episode of Family Guy. The last episode has nothing to do with the next.
