After getting into an argument with a local CAB member about opining up rations and how upset my character was that he had opened up rations just for him and nobody else before shutting them back down, a fight broke out. The CAB member in question drew out a very long /me which gave plenty of time for OTA buddies in discord to run over to me and merk me before I could finish my /me because not only does timescale not exist but allowing people to do /mes doesn't either. So my RP was just ignored and I get rekt. Fine, whatever. I call a staff member and start engaging in a one on one with them but before I can even get help about that situation, this happens.

OTA need to chill the fuck out. Even worse than CPs, they have been decking people left in right mid RP and just being an overzealous cancer to an already shitty state of RP.

OTA in question are [Staff are aware, please do not leak OTA taglines] that is entirely private.

what a joke
if they don't lose their whitelist then something is seriously wrong

I had an escort of OTA when moving around the city. We were going to each of the businesses, taking note of certain things before we go towards the RDC. So their response was to show up. Because it was in a public space, time scaling isn't effected. Granted, the /me should have been typed out through but, sometimes a mistake will happen. They reacted aggressively because of my presence.

the biggest problem here is how they reacted while he was waiting for an admin

Hello.

I do agree that the OTA could've /me'd and RP'ed their attack rather than just jump you on the spot when you were attacking/arguing with that man or CCA member rather. I will make a few points that I think do need to be considered here:

  1. Firstly, in public areas as such the streets, nexus basically any areas that CPs patrol which is not that big does not have a requirement for time-scaling. Time scaling does not make sense in public areas and causes more issues than not. It only applies to the more hidden, unpatrolled areas of the map lacking in cameras and the like. Basically the entire underground and some areas up on the surface.
  2. This was not an admin sit. No admin was talking to you, you may have PM'ed one but no admin sit was initiated. Just because you PM an admins doesn't make it a sit. Only when the admin comes over and asks people to hold and stop does it becoming a sit, otherwise, IC action can be taken against you.
  3. Again, like I said above, OTA could've RP'ed their attack rather than run in. Overall, however, they stuck to what they were told. You get close to them when they are escorting, they will wipe you out. It is their job. Don't mess with OTA if you are not prepared to go up against them. Do not attempt to talk to them in LOOC as they do not do so, they keep their taglines hidden and thus will not engage in LOOC talk.
    1. The only way to talk to them is get an admin sit going... and in the proper way where the OTA members can flag down to their citizens or other characters and then speak to you and the staff in LOOC to explain.
You may find some of this unfair, but the OTA are merely following their guide and following their factions rules accordingly. Of course, it isn't an excuse for them not RP as they should've and second they shouldn't of just whacked you down when you were waiting, but next time do not get so close. Wait for the admin to come, then approach the group of OTA.

So this case is a bit of a mix, but it has been noted for future reference.

To clarify on what I said, it is not saying it is "Okay for OTA to not RP." As it is not. Just wanted to clarify on that so the OTA will be asked to RP that next time rather than just /punch

Bad take, timescale can always be relevant and to ignore it because it's a "public place" is just freedom to stall indefinitely until a cop shows up and does "/me shoots bad guy".

Sure but not an excuse to not RP

It feels like you're playing down a very blatant issue, "of course, it isn't an excuse for them not to RP" - but where's the next step, does it say anywhere in the OTA guide that they are exempt to normal rules? From what you're saying it sounds like there isn't, therefore they're not following server rules. So just "haha don't do it again", again?

Imagine if this was a citizen/rebel doing this.

Oh we'd be shit on I am p-sure, but this isnt a useful arguement.

There is this however...
OTA in question are [Staff are aware, please do not leak OTA taglines] that is entirely private.

Okay, so we arent leaking the OTA taglines because it reveals the person in questions identity and we don't want that person to get shit or a foul reputation... Is this standard the same for Citizens, CP's or even rebels? I would hope to assume this level of protection extends to everyone- not only that this is a wrong moderation attempt I think.

In order to call someone out on abuse/rule breaking you need to name the character in question.

For example, if I approch in the forums and go "mingebags robbed me, this needs to stop." we're not obtaining specifics about who is the person breaking said rules in order to solve such issue. Now, you could make the arguement that "They could provide it later." but human memory can be forgetful and these kinds of threads are made in the haste of a moment. Rosters and names exist to hold people accountable, not to protect people.
Just a bit of food for thought.

Anyway, no this is unacceptable. You don't need to /knockout people like that and hell. OTA should be held to the -highest- quality when it comes to rp. From what I've seen and been told, I am not impressed at all by the OTA because they're centred entirely on just action and nothing else.

The methodology to all of this seems to be wrong in my opinion.

At the moment, it is in our ruleset that time scaling does not apply. This is found in our community guidelines. It may be changed in the future, but for now, as of the time of this post and report, time scaling does not apply. As much as some may disagree at this time.

Sure but not an excuse to not RP
True, I do not deny that.
It feels like you're playing down a very blatant issue, "of course, it isn't an excuse for them not to RP" - but where's the next step, does it say anywhere in the OTA guide that they are exempt to normal rules? I am basically saying that we have already spoken to the OTA lead to RP it next time as it really is unfair to run up to someone and just do /punch rather than let the person react, do their /me's and then they do theirs. They still do have to follow our RP rules, 0 exemptions. They have gotten a fair warning for this and at the time, it was the only reason why the guy was not char banned after death due to the lack of RP. The OTA member who was there which whacked the guy mid-LOOC convo will be spoken to as well seeing as he went offline before it was discussed in full.

Not trying to downplay the issue, just going through what I know and that I have given the OTA fair warning not to do it again. The guy who died can be refunded as well, (items and skill loss due to death returned).

Like maybe I am not wording it correctly, who knows. The simplest form I can put it into though is:

The issue has been noted, OTA lead has been spoken to. OTA are to RP all their future actions rather than just punching someone down and the member involved who did the /punch will be warned for doing so as they have broken a rule, it is up to the lead for any other punishments.

The thing is Robert, the "I was only following orders defence" only applies if one has no free-will in their actions.
This is a roleplay server, at no point is your personal life at risk. You can disregard -anything- for the betterment of the community and if somthing happens to you for it you can live on and make a thread about it like the OP.

We hold OTA to a higher standard if not the HIGHEST standard.

I am sure nothing in the rules tells someone that if there is a OOC issue someone is trying to explain ---> knock them out.
It's indefensible really.

The awnsers we get have been "We've talked to the people in question" in the past and yet it still happens one week into the server but honestly? This kind of thing shouldnt even had been a thing in the first place.

"haha don't do it again"
How many times do OTA and Civil Protection have to demonstrate these fundamental issues and this disregard for actual roleplay before we see serious change.

You don't just get people who don't roleplay basic things like tying and searching, who don't roleplay serious things like combat, and randomly beat and exploit people because "hehe im a dickhead" - these factions are filled with these kinds of behaviours and they come from a system and culture that promotes this.

Even if you don't believe anything is wrong, these factions have lost all legitimacy and respect from the community. Even if you think that these are just communication issues and nothing is flawed, for optics sake you have to actually make changes if you care what the community thinks at all.

All the OTA had to do was ignore me while I got stuff sorted out with staff about the timescale thing. If the OTA didn't go out of his way to aimlessly deck me, this thread would probably not exist.

In honour of the wise Madcombat's words, I shall formulate a true response instead of a shitpost.

Mostly an echo of my previous statements when CPs have been caught minging, but the CPs (and especially OTA when they're around) are the face of the server and the community. A newcomer to the server can accept a citizen being mingey, or not having the most adept roleplay ability, but when they come face to face with a CP they generally expect to have some realistic, quality roleplay. Like yeah, a CP -can- be edgy, he can chew people out, but most of the CPs atm are just chewing out the citizens, letting themselves break rules and being general roleplay annoyances rather than iconic antagonists.

I too believe that OTA are supposed to be the pinnacle of what the server's RP quality can be; they're the most dangerous faction, the most advanced faction, and do the most crazy and badass shit. They fire AR2s, they fly fucking badass Airwatch copters, and they probably bang your mom, or they would, if they didn't have their dicks removed because they were that chad.

OTA, therefore, shouldn't be doing things like this, OTA shouldn't be told 'Oh, don't do it again.' Because OTA, and by and large CPs are consistently committing the same offences over and over again. They don't even read LOOC, or listen to a player's concerns, or requests. This wasn't a random mingebag this was a guy being genuine, literally asking why they weren't listening to him... and they're the face of the community? No wonder everyone's in the slums or underground.

I can't say much on the time scaling rule since it is a rule I suppose. Though I think it's a very dumb one; does that mean that if there's a raid in the underground everyone can just fucking anime naruto run over to the action while someone stalls with an emote?

"Don't do it" is a very shitty punishment/warning for the amount of rulebreaking that was present here.

OTA are held to the highest of standars, on par with Vorts. Having them break rules as Powergaming, failure to acknowledge the person is waiting for an admin to sit the case (the roleplay should IN FACT stop if one party disagree with what is going on and wait for an Admin, no excuses), and not to forget their unnecessary anonimity. Anyone with two braincells and determination can figure out their callsigns and who they are OOCly in a matter of days. OP did in just one instance.

The issue I see just at a glance, is that Overwatch do not even play by their own rules.

See the Civil Protection Promptuary below:

Overwatch are supposed to only be out and about during judgement waivers, as written in the actual handbook currently. I see multiple citizens just walking around and lazing about in the video above- which contradicts what the status at that time was. I'm curious as to what would be dire just a week or so in that necessitates overwatch armed with AR2's to be making multiple appearances.
