Movie List
During the servers downtime I've been recently getting back into the rhythm of watching movies and TV shows. I'm making this thread to give my own personal favourite movies and TV shows, putting them in a list and explaining why I love them. Might be a bit of a long thread but I'd love to hear what other people have on their list.
1. Oldboy
Amazing acting, amazing story, weird ending and amazing action. This movie is perfect every way in my eyes and has some of the most memorable fight scenes in all of movie history. The story really catches you at the start, why is he being kept in the captivity for so long and who is keeping him? Unlike most other movies the villain pretty much reveals himself and the movie doesn't centre around who the villain is but more so why he's doing all of it. When the truth is revealed at the end you really get a sick feeling in your stomach, that alongside the audiotape at the end makes you feel disgusting and disturbed, but not enough to take you away from the movie itself. Best movie, simple as.
2. I saw the devil
Similar to Oldboy the action in this movie really is top notch. I found myself less interested in the story with this movie and instead found more interest in the cat and mouse like relationship with the two main characters. For anyone who hasn't seen the movie you might not know but the villain of this movie is the same character from Oldboy (Choi Min-sik), he's probably one of the main reasons I love this movie so much. This movie really isn't for the faint hearted, it's very gory and the subject matters at time is sure to turn away a few people, but the story and action really makes up for that.
3. The Terminator
This movie in a way is sort of like I saw the Devil, with the cat and mouse chase between Sarah Conner and the Terminator. It's a timeless classic and even though some of the practical effects can be considered outdated it's still a feat for the people working on this movie to have done so much in the 80s. The second movie is considered one of the best action movies of all time, and though yes it's a really good movie, one of the best, I personally love the first one more, due to the more gritty nature and the settings. Not to mention the police shootout scene.
4. Barry (TV show)
Might be a little controversial to be putting this show up here with some of the other choices as it's still a bit new, but I don't care. It's not as action heavy as the choices above and the first season is definitely a bit slow but my god, season 2 and onwards 100% makes up for it. Barry Berkman to a degree reminds me of Howie from Uncut Gems with how he always falls back to bad habits. Barry is a bad person yes, perhaps even a terrible one but he's one you're always rooting for and by the time season 4 comes around, you can't really justify anything he does, and though upsetting, the ending was the only way it could of gone. Not to mention the comedy on this show is hilarious, especially with characters like NoHo Hank.
4. A Silent Voice
I'm not too into movies like this but I'd be lying if I said I didn't love it once it ended. I'll try not to spoil anything since it really is something you need to see if you want to understand. Really emotional movie but like the others, it's 100% worth the watch.
5. Devilman Crybaby (TV show)
Some people might not know, or know already, but the same person to make the soundtrack for this, also did A Silent Voice, Ping Pong The Animation and even the new Chainsaw Man anime, it's probably the reason I love all the soundtracks for them all. This show is something else, the animation in on par or even better than most animation media that comes out today, and just like A Silent Voice, it's very sad at points. The ending, my god, the ending? If you don't spoil the series and watch from start to finish, the ending is one of the most depressing endings in any TV show. I'm very glad this was made when it was, to bring life back to the original manga in a new and interesting way, I've seen this show more than 3 times now and I don't regret it a single time.
6. Drive

7. Trainspotting
This movie is pretty infamous for its baby scene and how horror educing it was but in reality, this movie from start to finish is pretty horrific. It really shows the dangers of drug addiction and the effects it can have on your friends, family and community around you. Even the story itself isn't ground breaking and mainly just follows the group as they move from place to place, finding ways to get their hands on drugs. I don't think too highly of the second movie as I think the first one ended pretty good all things considered, but was still a fun movie to watch regardless.
8. Hardcore Henry
I'll be honest, the story for this is not the best, it provides a good background for the action, and as you may have already found out, this movie is completely first person. If you've played Payday 2 you might remember this movie since they had a collaboration with a DLC pack, introducing Jimmy. This movie to me is a guilty pleasure as I remember when me and my dad first watched it, and found it fascinating someone had made a purely first person movie. Though it's not the best in terms of story and characters, I think the action alone carries this one.
9. Mr. Robot (TV show)
I found season 1 to be a little edgy with Elliot but after that it all went up hill for me. The series at times can be really gritty with character deaths and story plots but it just adds to the genuine nature for the show. This show is always trying to stay grounded in reality when it comes to the world, so seeing Elliot slowly descend into madness is always engaging, especially as his alter ego attempts to take over and cause a revolution. Rami Malek did an amazing job as Elliot in this show and I think he was casted perfectly.
10. Utopia (TV show)
One of the best TV shows to come out of the UK. Plot is very engaging and interesting from start to finish, every, and I mean every character is memorable and you don't forget anyone. Recently rewatched this and the CGI is a little of the meh side but it doesn't take away too much from the story or action. Wilson Wilson is easily my favourite character from this show and can you blame me. Guy switched sides at the end of the first season, something you never really see in TV shows or movies anymore. I'm a bit sad we didn't get a season 3 but maybe it's for the best given how the US one went.
