It's a Friday evening- just a day after the incident.
"Riku?"
The Regional Compliance Network home office. Shinjuku district.
"Mr. Matsumara?"
"Prepare me a cup of Gyokuro, please."
Matsumara's secretary bows away, returning later with the tea and the strong painkillers that he has been prescribed following his flirtation with death during the evacuation.
"Thank you, Riku. That will be all. Go enjoy your day."
What Riku says next is not important. Matsumara sips his tea. He remembers his father. Absorbed by the bottle, a slave to his sake. It was the loss of mother.
Matsumara realizes now that he is father... only his mother is Japan. He realizes now that the Japan he knew is long gone- even though he drinks fine tea and wears his fine suit, with all his memorabilia... his company's old works in the back of his office. The combine doesn't care that it's technically contraband- as long as he does his job.
He turns on his radio. The tea is half drained. His PDA pings- he ignores it.
He muses the lack of empathy, the lack of any care- it was always present, the corporate greed which he was the pioneer of. The money, the war, the killings. The barbaric killings.
Rebel or Civil Protection? They have both committed atrocities enough.
The masquerade of Matsumara is over. His contentedness has ended. His world has already shattered once- the stability he loved... the culture of Japan, and even of America, which he was fond of...

It's too much.

The tea is drained now.

The sun has set. He recreates the Tokyo of the past.
Click. The safety is off.

"This might displease Riku."
His mind trails off, slightly foggy from oxycodone and memories.
His PDA buzzes again.

---
The gunshot was hardly audible outside of Matsumara's sound-proofed office. It was assumed Matsumara was sleeping... as he often did in his office, though he would never admit it.
The death was determined to be a suicide. Many of the Regional Compliance Network mourned the loss of their director, who was kind to his subordinates. Some were eager to take his place.
And so, Asahi, cooincidentially meaning "Sunrise", met his end. He was able to appreciate the irony of this.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Minister Mickievic [LIKE, RESPECT]

A good man, professional and competent. Even when the clinic was overflowing, he managed it well.

Ilya Zima [Dislike]
Not everything is a glorious victory. Shouting doesn't often win the day. You're too idealistic. You don't understand this is all a lie.

Dakk Sanchez [Respect]
Your sacrifice was with noble intent.

Hex Sanchez [Dislike]
You ran away from your own mess... your actions will weigh upon you in time.

Julia Jazmin [Acquaintance]
I do not blame her for being scared. I cannot say much about her.

Jidai-057 [Respect]
Perhaps you care, if only a bit. You saved lives, at least, as many perhaps as you've taken... but can I judge anymore?

Yasir Syed [Like]
I enjoyed conversing with him. His business will go far.
