Currently: Apartments are disappointgly bare, Used to be you could ask for PET Get them propped and be done with your making it feel as if you 'ACTUALLY' Lived in there. currently apartments are unpropped bare hulls of their former selves allegedly this is done beacuse of "Edicts" Which fair enough not every basic apartment needs to resemble a loyalist one.

However currently there's really no point in RPing in an apartment and the few currently used are just becoming storage havens much like slums.

What I suggest is Admins do a sweep over inactive bases/shops ect and remove excess props and adhere to pre-decorating each apartment (Biotic housing being the exception) With basic necessities. I.E 2 Bunk beds to allow for numerous characters to live/sleep there. A common area/room with a couch and a television so that breen casts can be watched.

What will this do?: Hopefully it will make apartments more lively it'll feel less like a boring empty space you just blew 30 credits on and more of a "Home"

It'd be nice to at least have a approved dupe to use for apartments that CWU can drop after doing 'work', giving it a whole IC process with players having to request and pay for good furnishings.

Sometimes you DIY it, between as small group, give it an identity. Staff will and do without meaning to, have a vision which can conflict that of players. Staff might want it hegemonic, players might want it mega unique.
Let players do it, staff intervene if it's naff or remove some more outlandish elements. This gives each housing block more personality. This screenshot is of Rourke Housing - despite being next to the Square, it was more rustic/classical/rundown. Where as nearby was "Tesla Heights" higher class and more Mediterranean in style (It was owned by the Italian Mafia.)

give pet flags and do quality control

This has been discussed in another thread recently and I believe it's being looked into at the moment, but all of the props were removed IC'ly - most likely for OOC reasons. But, like I said and someone else already mentioned; It's being looked into at the moment to return some props.

Seriously this. Even just the bare essentials; a bed, a couch, table or two, chair? The basic stuff to make it atleast look like somebody would live there. You don't have to completely deck out every apartment.
Then people with PET flags can still customize here and there, add in a desk, some wall hangings, et cetera. It'll allow for those who enjoy spawning their own apartment props to still be able to personalize their homes, and those who don't have those flags can still have a normal, albeit poor/run down, apartment.

Another idea for an attempt to make apartments less useless:
Select a room (probably one of the windowless ones that nobody likes) and turn it into a public dormitory, just place a bunch of bunk beds and basic furniture without any of the kitchen appliances or storage benefits, only the bathroom for shitting roleplay.

I agree with this idea. I've seen a few other servers do it.
Maybe if it's possible, have like a rental locker system or something similar. Owing to the fact that living in an open dormintory and not an apartment, it'd be nice to be able to safely put away your possessions without it being stolen 2 seconds later. It'd have very limited storage space, but the fee is a bit cheaper than an apartment.

We already have this without the renting part: stashes.

Anyway, the reason we cut down so much on props is that we are running into the gmod edict limit when the admin box is in use.

Right, here it comes:

Appartments will be propped by me, I'll ensure atleast the following is in there:

- A useable toilet (You can use this to flush items if needed)
- A useable sink (You can fill water bottles with it)
- A stove (To cook)
- A TV & Radio (For entertainment, I'll be asking developers to make the TV's cast the telescreens on it, so everyone can watch shows from home.)
- Public storage containers (Like a fridge, a dresser, a drawer, just something to communally store stuff with along with your pals)
- A sofa which you can hit E on to sit, and a table along with a chair, and some general decorations.

Feel that I missed something? let me know

A Breen portrait in every living room. -- Beenisim must be practised with prayer twice a day.

This is a multiplayer game and most of the plaza roleplay happens in the city streets. Can't really get around that, thus the apartments being delegated to storing containers. Filling them with funky utilities isn't going to do much honestly, you can already get water from outside, public stoves are available and cute stuff like watching TV (it's just the sociostability screen) and sitting down (you can just /actsit) are too insignificant to justify throwing credits at an apartment rental when you could spend the money on more vinegar and flour to make kevlar & grenades with.
