I know i'm a shit nobody cares about enthusiast and all but i've seen people call them both and i was wondering if anyone had given it thought
 
Neither. The Combine’s true political system is likely totally incomprehensible to us.
 
They're aliens man, they're neither; the Combine just compile up a bunch of psuedo-communist/fascist aesthetics along with religion in some cases to manipulate humans into not resisting as they slowly all get slaughtered or transhumanized. A tried and true method in their previous attempts to take over whole civilizations, probably.

I know they're weird technocratic aliens and all and we cannot possibly perceive how their 'Government' actually works but

What is the Combine's Occupation Government of Earth ideologically closest to?
 
Ideologically, the Combine has no coherent system of governance. It does, in practice, imply fascistic methods of governance to keep the population in check: it is totalitarian in nature, pushes for reverence for the leader (in this case, aliens), argues for economic class collaboration, contorts the national rebirth myth into one of "ascension", it's elitist, anti-intellectual (detesting human science), militarist, propaganda-heavy and relies on hatred towards its supposed enemies to drive fear into the populace.

Trying to make any parallel between the Combine and communism beyond jokes like "haha free housing" is dumb

The Nazis' government of a concentration camp mixed in with the condescending, paternalistic attitude of 19th-century school systems.
 
from willard prospective they might as well be democratic beings seeing as they give us elections and shit + willard lore the only real lore so :love:
