Well hello there,

It's time to collect the community's view on the new ration system that has been on trial for 2 weeks now.

Previous System
The previous system was simply a ration dispenser, everyone could collect their ration once every 2.5 hours. Rations were only closed when IC elements called for it, this caused people with low SC to also get rations.

Current System
The current system gives a choice, do you stay loyal to the Union and keep a hearty meal every day? or do you scrounge the slums for edible leeches?
The system focuses on loyalty, putting a Social-Credit check on the entrance to the rations. This causes both more RP with your fellow ration line citizen and enforces the dystopian feeling more. Rations ranged from 80 SC to 200 SC and maybe even Tier 4 only when the rebels are especially naughty.

We've also noticed that the CWU started giving out food after work-shifts, showing that work does reward. Giving people more food for a honest days work in the warehouse.

Stores are also more active, stores that sell food see an influx in people ordering to keep that hunger bar down.

The Future
The future of the system, if the community agrees. Will be to keep this in-place and automate it through code. Every 2.5 hours the rations will open with the iconic announcement and shut 15 minutes later to the demise who-ever is still in line.
Social-Credits will be taken into account more. Being given a priority line and more cycles a day.

An example of the possibible future cycle: 80 SC > 100 SC > 125 SC > 160 SC > 200 SC > Tier 4
Higher SC or Tier is more rations.

Your Opinion
In the end we do care about your opinion, so we are putting it to a vote.

Vote with ✅ if you feel that the current system is fine and we can build of it.
Vote with ❌ if you feel that the current system isn't ideal and wish to revert to the previous one.

We'll be allowing discussion in the thread comments aslong as it stays civil.
Thanks and have fun!

I believe this is a good move for the future. As long as the "afterhours" are thought of and balanced accordingly.

I'm all for it, personally.

@Aspect™ can you briefly explain how the 'automisation' part will work?

pros of the new system:
  • Big Immersion!!!

  • People are remembering that they are starving and dissatisfied

  • More reason to have good social standing
More incentive to feed yourself (when combined with skill reduction)

More roleplay of people banding together to feed each other

cons:
  • Difficult to make it to rations on time as a slummer
Difficult to keep a steady credit balance (and to have extra to spend on businesses)

Gotta cycle between all my characters when rations DO open, otherwise only one will get fed/income

My suggestion would be:
Make the ration period slightly longer (30 mins?) to allow everyone a chance to finish their RP, stash their goods, etc and wait in line. The fact that rations are closed all the time means people should definitely get a fair time to go get the rations once they DO open
(Also this will round up the cycles nicely. 2hr30mins closed, 30 mins open, 3 hours is a full cycle, 8 cycles every 24 hours)

EDIT: Also, will the individual character still have his/her own ration timer? So you will need to spend the 2.5 hours on your character AND the rations be open?

The current system tends to group up all types of individuals which I am personally a huge fan of. It's a place where a lot of RP can take place by bringing together civil protection units and citizens alike. It creates some good RP from what I've seen (for example I had two citizens pushing each other out of the queue, trying to pickpocket each other) and it also prevents the grind, which I am currently a fan of. Some things remain to be improved (such as the fact that units cannot do a ration cycle by themselves if there aren't enough cops), but overall I think this system's better. Just my 2 cents on this.

Have people pass through some form of gate to check for SC. Bam. Automatisation. You can manually set the required SC from the gate or perhaps through some panel and bam you do not even need to be there to control the shitizens.

bruh

Anyway, we can implement this as soon as there is a system in place for returning to the 'standard' way by unlocking the machine during low-pop hours, where cops may not be able to hold a ration session.

That and preferably there'd be some sort of automatic ping to Civil Protection every 2.5 hours, because dear lord people are going to forget.

Worth it just for the CP who riffs and roasts everyone in line's name as they're either allowed in or not.

global rations

make sure to set a reminder so cps can be prepared to oversee.

what ive noticed personally from this system is not many people have credits to spend on anything at stores, the Nest for example rarely sees many transactions. I've stood at the counter for hours at a time and will rarely get anyone who will buy anything because there's barely any disposable income coming in.

I'm glad to see that the feedback is overwhelmingly positive and that nearly everyone is enjoying it. Should anyone have concerns, really, drop them in this thread because we can only work to improve this new ration system if there's discrepancies.

Thank you, guys.

I like the new system but even when I get my rations it barely does anything for my hunger or thirst

if we keep using this system we should make the hunger and thirst take longer to deplete, because at the moment there isn't much of a point to get a ration (outside of getting money), because when I eat the food It barely fills the hunger bar and I stay starving (despite it being loyalist rations)
