Ration Timer Continue While Offline

Can we have the ration timer continue while off the server? It's a little annoying when you get rations and then play, get off for the day and come back the next day expecting, "Oh, it's been a while, I should probably get rations because I'm starving." and then you use the ration machine and you get slapped with, "You still have 0.71 hours"

Please. Please god.

I think they are fine as they are.

You play and your activity essentially determines the rations and stuff. I mean, compared to the old system of 2 hours even if ur online or not is stupid since I know a lot of people that just do that, play just for rations so they can acquire enough tokens/credits for idk what and being useless RP wise.

IMO, having the in-game timer for rations is useful for RP purposes. Else people would farm them like crazy. Something HL2RP is NOT about.

Half-Life roleplay is about playing a role. Think of Rations as a passive buff that activates every 2.5 Hours.
You supplement this time with buying from business, doing work cycles and actually roleplaying with others that sometimes comes with monetary or character based rewards.

Your here to create and develop a character, spending time doing this will see that the ration timer is of little consequence to your life in the server.

Fair enough, but this also punishes people who just can't get on that often.

I'm aware of the premise of RP. Thanks. I am also aware that rations are a secondary buff to RP that doesn't serve an overarching purpose. However, the fact of the matter is that people who have a life an cannot get on as much as people in high school who have pretty much unlimited time after 3:00PM still stands. I get on an want to progress and actually fill my food/water bar a little and get some form of tokens because missing Work Cycles is a common occurrence and I can't because I got rations 4 days ago when I was on for 30 minutes. And then I won't be able to wait out the rest of the timer because I only had 30 more minutes to play on the server for today.

Agreed. The ration timer honestly needs to be dropped to 2 hours, not three. Also, it should definitely reset after every 12 hours, so if you go to work/bed/etc and a significant amount of time has passed, you can get rations.

See, a reset doesn't sound like a bad idea that way you can't outright farm but people who have jobs and uni classes aren't getting outright fucked. A little help for people who like the server but have less time on their hands would be much appreciated.

Hunger and thirst also dont decline when you're offline... Unless that also happens I don't see why the timer should also decline while offline. Also I think it's tied to being on a specific character, not necessarily being online, meaning that if we change it to decline when you're offline it'd mean it declines while you're on another character, leading to the age old HL2RP act of AFK'ing on a secondary character for your ration to pop, to get money and ignore hunger/thirst.

AFKing on a secondary character is null and void as you get DC'd for being AFK anyway. And while hunger and thirst do not decline while offline, getting any credits from rations is also something that doesn't happen while offline which would be very nice to be able to get like everyone else.

You only get kicked for being AFK when the server is full. You don't get auto DC'ed.

As for credits, there are more ways than just rations to get them. Even then, once you reach 100 or over, rations don't give you any credits. Why would you get credits for being offline anyway?

Because ample time would have passed and I like rations as much as any other player and would like to get what everyone else does despite having a less forgiving life schedule and also being someone who enjoys the server. Undoubtedly there are others who have a similar circumstance and it would be at least somewhat inclusive and sympathetic to those players. And if it doesn't matter after 100 credits anyway, what is the harm? Farming supplement tubs that expire? Doesn't seem like a huge loss either way.

The issue is people make new characters, old ones die and are PK'ed, new people join. There will always be something to justify keeping it as it is, as we don't have a static playerbase where people only have a single character. Right now it's fair for everyone, if we remove that barrier, people who can play more could get more rations and tokens on more characters than you and it would be unfair.

The fact that you have to play a character to make the ration timer go down is fair for everyone.

That would still exist even with an offline reset. I disagree that it makes it any less fair, if you get on more you still get more rations as you have the opportunity to claim them, but if someone can get on every few days when they have time to play and can get a ration and not be bogged down by a timer from when they were online 3 days ago, that'd be cool and I don't think is an insane request.

I get you want to avoid it being abused, and I agree if you have more time on your hands then it makes total sense that you should have more access to rations, but my point still stands that its a system that still has a flaw in that it alienates players who have busier lives outside of HL2RP.

I still think a reset every 12 OOC hours would be nice. Hypothetically, let's say you only play an hour a day after work and before you go to bed. That means it will take you weeks to get as much credits as someone who plays all day can get.

We do not want to have the ration timer continue while you're offline as it'll be far too easy to farm them, current setup seems to work nicely with balance in mind
