Raymond Adonis Lebecque was a doctor back in Chile before the world as he knew it came to an end. He has been practicing medicine since 1984, working with the limited resources available to him and gaining years of experience treating ordinary illnesses, injuries, and emergencies. When the Combine occupation eventually reshaped the world, Raymond's old career became little more than a memory. The medical knowledge remained, however. Even after everything changed, he continued to think and behave like a doctor. He has an instinctive tendency to examine details and try to understand what is happening rather than simply accepting it.
His medical background also shaped the way he sees people. Raymond has never been particularly sentimental, but he understands the value of keeping people alive and functional. In the current world, that has become less about practicing medicine in a proper hospital and more about improvising with whatever equipment, medication, and materials happen to be available.
Despite his age and experience, he remains an eccentric and curious man. He has become increasingly interested in making things himself, experimenting with equipment, and finding practical solutions to problems that others might simply ignore.

His time on District 1 also left him with a certain confidence in his own abilities. He isn't necessarily arrogant, but he can be stubborn when he believes he understands something better than the person standing in front of him.
After everything that happened he doesn't consider himself a criminal or a "rebel". He's far more practical than that. The Combine controls the world he lives in, and he sees little value in throwing his life away fighting something he cannot realistically change. Instead, he prefers to work within the system. If cooperation gives him access to equipment, materials, information, or people who can help with his own projects, then Raymond has little reason to refuse it. His ambitions are personal, and he is willing to play along with the world around him if it gives him room to pursue them.
The opportunity came when he eventually secured a position as a Nurse Practitioner, putting his previous medical experience to use while slowly establishing himself within the community. His ambitions, however, extended beyond medicine. Through his work and a lucky meeting, Raymond began taking an interest in local affairs and eventually found his way into a small political career as an Executive within the Harmony Collective. What began as an attempt to simply survive after leaving District 1 gradually became an opportunity to gain influence, serve the community, and carve out a new place for himself.
