It is not fun gameplay wise, or level design wise to put things that insta kill you and nothing you can do about it around tight corners of the map. Go ham with the zombies, those are fun to avoid and rp with. But stationary landmines that fucking kill you, with nothing you can do to escape is not fun in the slightest.

As long as barnacles are obvious this isn't a problem in my opinion, people should be able to tell that a route can't be traversed because of barnacles and then it's on them to avoid it until they have the equipment to deal with the npcs.

They don't need to be removed overall. I think that barnacles in on ladders are totally legit as long as you can see that they are there. It prevents all players from immediately rushing underground until they have what it takes to deal with them. I literally drop an empty can and feed it to the barnacle to sneak past them, you can do the same.

Sorry but as we've mentioned previously, we're looking at this long-term and that place is and will remain incredibly dangerous for now, unless via IC means it changes somewhat. Do not go down there for the fun, it is a terrible place offering only death and misery. There's increased loot down there and you can meet a vort or two for some RP but otherwise it is a death sentence unless prepared. Expect barnacles at every turn and you'll not be as disappointed
