It's stupid, and kinda powerful. I get the impression it comes back from the days when Civil Protection would be banned for leaking their taglines OOCly or from even typing in LOOC, not that it's relevant in and of itself but that it's the general idea of infallibility - of having no chance to listen to what's being said over radio sets which.. to speak into, you need to speak loud and clearly.

People should be able to listen to what people right next to them are saying into their radio. If you want to say something incredibly important and secretive - take a look around you, or better yet, meet in person.

That being said, I think a perfectly viable solution to this would be to randomly cut out what's being said if a player uses /rw. For example in Project Zomboid, during storms what's being said over radio will randomly be interrupted with < Bzzts- > and < Zzzts- > which would still let people try and get a quiet word into the radio if they needed to, but at a cost. Because right now there's not really any reason to not use RW. (Also if we added that we could have it toggleable during events server-wide possibly, would've been nice during the massive storms we had a while ago to mess with comms)

(This is a VERY important suggestion btw the future of the server is on a knife's edge.)

Please do this. I'm pissed at seeing people using radios and literally shouting into them while using the shitty command.
Either remove it, turn it into a normal whisper (you can hear it if you're close enough), or fucking ban the idiots that abuse it

I dont agree but i agree with people that look like yelling while using whisper radio

I dont think people should be incapable of whispering, but I think there needs to be a point where you will pretty much be hearing what they say regardless. Issue with it is more that you never can, even if right next to someone. It is possible to speak quietly into a phone/radio but not to such an extreme extent

Perhaps a bit too much but what would be interesting to me is actually having the responding parties be what someone can more easily hear. No idea if such a thing is possible to do, but it would make sense that people could pick up snippits of your conversation on a radio as they are pretty loud when someone else is responding.

As I stare at the person next to me, looking at their mouth and listening super carefully as my head is practivally touching theirs..
whispers into radio
*AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH* ~ Internal screaming

Yes, please remove or alter the /rw because it's kinda dumb to think the person that could literally be whispering in your ear can't hear you, and yet you're speaking at what is essentially full volume every time you use it, with no clarity issues.

I love this idea..

This already exists, if you shout using all caps or something into the radio - I'm not quite sure how it works but it's not normal yelling, it'll come up with "X screams into their radio" and it'll show that for everybody nearby someone with that radio... I think so, at least.

It'd be neat to expand this ig, maybe if someone is talking into the radio normally it'll play it out loud for everyone in a whisper radius or something?

To be fair, the radio whisper command doesn't make much sense. There is only so much you can whisper into a phone or radio before the bloody thing doesn't pick up your voice properly. Especially with the timeline we are set in which is where tech stopped past 2001 due to BMI and Portal storms + 7HW then yeah, the radios which CPs, rebels, CWU, CMU, etc shouldn't be possible to whisper into because tech back then was quite shit you literally had to speak normal volume or run the risk of not being heard at all or just merge in with the white fuzzy noise of the radio transmission.

Some radios you literally had to shout in just to be heard (Though to be honest, sometimes I even still have to shout down a modern smartphone because of signal at times). Whispering into a radio just isn't viable nor does it feel realistic in its entirety.

Not to mention, modern radios even if you did have today's tech would still not work well for whispering, hence why most people you see using them are talking at an average volume just to be heard, sometimes even raising their voice slightly for insurance.

This right here is a much better solution already where you have to talk down your radio normally but anyone nearby should only see it pop up as a whisper, since even when walking around despite the fact you know that someone is on the phone or see them on a radio, you can't always hear what they're saying 100% of the time without paying full undivided attention. So yes, this solution works much better. Of course, anyone outside the whisper range should still see in the chatbox that said user has indeed used their radio in some capacity.

And yes, people abusing whisper commands to yell down their radio is extremely silly and memey at best. Back over a year ago, I used to dewhitelist some people over that simple fact after more than a couple of warnings. It was not appreciated one bit.

I don't think it works that way

I could've sworn it does, fairly sure there's been a few haha funny moments with it.

@Gr4Ss can u confirm how this works?
If you radio yell in all caps it gets turned into a radio SCREAMS instead. Mostly just fluff, functionally it does little else.

Radio yells already have the feature that everyone near a receiver can hear it too within a small radius - the reason this isn't done for regular radio traffic is because there is no good optimized way to check for it. For every receiver, we must individually check every single other player to see if they are near them. With 20 cops on and 80 players, that is ~1500 checks PER radio message every time something is said on the CP frequency.

Dont remove radio whisper, just change the coded distance in which it can be heard by others, much like the standard whisper without a radio. Its a shrimple as that!

Instead of removing it simply. Make it so that if you are Close enough you can hear them speak into it even if it's a whisper. As of. Right now you can't hear anyone whispering into the radio at all.

Just my two cents: I agree with @Julia Jazmin's above post from an RP perspective. It does make sense.

But in reality, radios, especially the kind the Combine would have, are rated 5 by 5 (5x5) or Lima-Charlie (Loud and Clear). Loudness and Clarity can actually be modulated in the radio, so that you speak normally or even scream into the radio, and it could be made to come out as a whisper on the other end (other radio set to 1x5, or 2x5, or 3x5, or 1x1 if they want). Likewise, other people are able to modulate their radios this way, and hear what you are saying "Lima Charlie" even if you are whispering into that thing so quietly, you're almost just breathing, and a person an arm's length away isn't actually able to hear you. But on the other end to radios set 5x5, you come out as though you are talking to them in a normal, conversational way. So it's realistic not to see /radiowhisper.

Now, I will counter my own point and say there is a limit to realism. For example, you can also modulate your radio squelch, and turn it so low that it doesn't sound at all (essentially off but not quite). Squelch is that beeping sound CPs make when using the radio. Obviously no one would want that gone, because it's a great little tracker of where they are for rebs, and an intimidating aura for CPs. Everyone likes it (I think)!

At times like this I really wish my suggestion was implemented: https://willard.network/forums/threads/add-as-a-forum-reaction.7684/
