The title says it all, but let me elaborate: the RP that comes through the CMU is mostly either people who are hurt going through the paces of being a citizen or people who want to roleplay a serious injury, however, there are the occasional characters that want to roleplay a chronic condition or other issues. Now there is nothing wrong with wanting to do the latter, but the issue itself lies in the roleplay that follows from both the ill character and CMU staff. Obviously, not everyone who wants to roleplay has the knowledge of illnesses or medical knowledge in general, SO this is where the character auth comes in.
What it really comes down to is that some of the longest character plotlines that come through the clinic are the treatment of chronic conditions and it should be good for everyone involved. The ramifications of understanding the condition and treating it are serious, it shouldn't consist of a random series of treatments that vary from person to person with no set baseline or goal for players to strive for.
TL: DR Make people submit auths for medical conditions so everyone can roleplay it and its treatment correctly.
- It ensures that players are accountable for their characters and know the risks associated with chronic conditions in and out of a clinical setting.
- Players should do a little research to have a basic understanding of the illness so they can roleplay the following correctly; symptoms, presentation, and treatments.
- Creating a baseline of knowledge not only helps the player, but also the staff and can help guarantee consistency and quality across different interactions.
- It helps to create the general trajectory for the character's plot by having an established end goal; whether it is a specific treatment or some other resolution.
