A joyless people wander the streets of a once freed society.
Under heavy scrutiny of masked oppressors.
Patrolling the streets with their night sticks.
Surrounded by cold Combine steel walls.
Ruined and damaged buildings that once housed families.
Now houses prisoners and slaves to a corrupt machine.
Where once there was art is now replaced with fascist propaganda.
Speech now under censorship and even punishable by death.
Time to pursue dreams is now occupied by fulfilling work quotas.
All these crimes.
'Justified' by a new regime.
Under their 'justice' and 'reasons'.
There is no moral ambiguity with the Combine.
Their regime is evil.
And like all Empires, are doomed to fall.

*** As you travel through through the snow, you find a paper pasted on the cold brick wall. Torn and decaying, you can barely make out the fading symbol. From the underground networks of the resistance to the slums, it may come as familiar. To most it may mean nothing. Nonetheless, you think nothing of it and continue the struggle of walking through the harsh cold. Leaving the paper to degrade and soon enough disappear.
