Background

• Roy eloped from his home to join the army right after graduating from high school. Uninterested in civilian life, he found a sense of purpose and belonging in the military.

Having been deployed to the African wilderness during the crisis of the portal storms, he was spared from the horrors of the Seven Hour War and its aftermath by coincidentally being left stranded with the rest of his unit.

• Finally arriving in the Combine cities, Roy decides to make his way back to Ireland in whatever way he can. Starting his odyssey from City 40, and carefully jumping at any chance to be relocated to any city that gets him closer to his home country, he eventually arrives to 24, where he now finds himself stuck indefinitely . . .

>Roy’s low profile and ability to bite his tongue makes him a model working-class citizen.

• >Roy was accustomed to living with few luxuries since way before the war, the rough conditions of the Combine cities don’t intimidate him more than the monotony of civilian life.

>Roy’s misadventures in Africa meant he holds a neutral outlook on every faction relevant to the new world, he is wary of the Combine, without any drive to rebel against them; and distrusts resistance groups, as they remind him of the kind of bandits he fought in his soldier times.

• In the city, Roy wears a surplus military jacket he saved from the burner during boot camp, while visibly tattered at first, Cormack did his best to sew it back into shape, even adding his unit's patches and MAA markings.​
