S2K for Sweeps

As it stands, people in the sewers usually run when they hear OTA or CP down there, and if they're caught in a CP/OTA's visions which a lot of the time they are, they run without /me as they don't want to get caught up in TBC. I suggest that a silent TBC switch command is added so that it can be switched on or off silently, so when a sweep in happening, if either party want to initiate combat it's a simple /me and wait for response before entering combat, if they don't respond with a /me and just run, that counts as response enough. It's much more of a hassle to get into TBC and vote for S2K and would be much more fluid and dynamic to have quicker combat especially in the sewers during sweeps. Judging by the recent addition to the rules to keep /me's quick in combat, especially during sweeps, I feel like this would keep players interested for longer, rather than having to basically play chess in the sewers.

As for how PK's would work, currently S2K deaths do not result in PK's if TBC is turned off, even though it also states any deaths in the sewers is a PK. An addendum or amendment could be made to this to state specifically during sweeps while S2K is enabled, deaths are a PK.

I support this, but I don’t know how others may feel. Half-Life is a fast-paced shooter, after all.

+ support.

This TBC slows you down even more than S2RP.

Everytime there is a sweep everyone in the sewers has 3 full minutes to run away while the civil protection gets stuck in several annoying TBCs.

There is no challenge unless you are deadass AFK.

I have to disagree on this because yes, while people do run off without a /me (as I have done myself) the reason why is simple. It's not the first thought that comes to mind when you hear CPs / ORA and instead it's to GTFO as fast as possible. TBC is useful in sweeps because it creates the opportunity for chokeholds and allows character's stats and skills to really shine without OOC skill coming into play.

The whole rule about about having to respond to a /me if someone attacks you makes sense, in an enclosed setting but in the sewers - where you have npcs which don't really abide by TBC outside of direct engagement by the player. CPs are the exception which require a response. Whereas on the surface where there is no active threat of getting gibed by a pack of hound-eyes /mes can play a greater role.

Additionally, it's unfair for the player responding because all I have to do as the attacker is figure out their chosen escape route, plant my crosshair there and wait for the *click* of the /me and then press left click. Giving them no chance to escape. The response rule in the sewers is redundant and if you get the drop on somebody, you engage with 1 /me with the element of surprise. People might only see you in the last couple of seconds and make a dash for it. They're still on the back foot and it's just causing more problems than it's worth.

TBC is a key part of the server and the problem isn't people running away, since what they're doing is the obvious choice. It's the refusal of the attackers to capitalize on the fact that they caught someone and instead stand around like clowns giving them that chance to escape.

I find someone in the sewers, use a /me to begin the engagement and then shoot. TBC starts with me having 1 and bit of a turn. That's a lot damage right out the gate. Conversely when people run the maximum distance in TBC, they get a dodge bonus to avoid future attacks. You can't do any of that with S2K because there's too many factors at play. Being OOCly good at first person shooters or having a good PC should not be deciders in a combat engagement. That is the whole point of TBC.

This suggestion is too heavy handed basically. The attacker gets massive advantages with TBC anyway without factoring in their skills and TBC even has provisions in it preventing 1 shots. So there's at least a chance instead of a guaranteed death just as soon as the bullets start flying.

require one /me from the attacker and then they can shoot without waiting for a response would fix all this.

Retain the /me response rule in smaller engagements such as melee based TBC since it's ICly not as fast.

That's the best compromise, but that's just my opinion.

Its an interesting problem because after watching the footage of the sweeps it is very much true that TBC heavily stalls all responding parties. Minutes lost in total fighting basic foes like headcrabs and such. But, at the same time, it is quite contradictory to drop our main combat system in the midst of what will surely be combative RP should it come to it.

Why the fuck is anyone s2king the entire point of the server is to be tbc yet no one uses it
Stop eating tape you fucking s2k minges!

whats the point of TBC if cops / OTA are just gonna be s2king lol

Listen man, you've got to TBC with the donator headcrab who keeps respawning to try and PK you.

Cops and Overwatch are immune.

because rebel schmucks can escape while OTA spend 30 minutes in TBC with a barnacle

Rebels abuse sweep TBCs to avoid engagements that would otherwise, realistically, happen.

Of course you cant blame them because I'd do the same but it's clearly a flawed dynamic.

Is it really? It makes perfect sense to me. The aura acts as a quasi "auditory" and visual indicator "hey there's fighting going on ahead." It doesn't take much to put two and two together and start walking the other way. This is the trade off OTA and rebels need to make. Do they ignore all the NPCs (particularly in OTA case moving fast with their footsteps) or kill them all and make their presence known.

There's advantages and downsides to both parties but most people just go "ha ha, knife go chop!" on all the zombies and then scratch their heads when CPs walk up to them in the sewers for free.

Slowest is RP'ing out combat. Second slowest is TBC, then S2M. Fastest is S2K.

I mean I figured that it's unlikely the CPs'd quietly sweep the entire sewers, the moment they start shooting at wildlife it'd be pretty clear to any rebels to GTFO.

The auditory clue of a protection team shooting everything they see and their chatter should be good enough in my opinion.

The issue in question is that OTA and CP's are stopped dead in their collective tracks for 30 seconds every time a headcrab wants a nibble at them. So, while realistically the OTA would put a pulse round in the thing and keep moving, with TBC the entire team is pinned in place for a little bit while rebels remain free to flee. So it becomes an issue of timescale in a sense.

Oh noooo you can’t csgo lol blast through the most dangerous part of the city how will we get our high octane FPS fix?

cp and to an extent OTA are not combat gods. realistically, combat is a slog that often leads to pauses and delays both within and following combat. instead of crying cause u can’t engage your GOD LIKE FPS SKILLZ, be smarter and perhaps set up a choke point or other methods of not only running people out, but making them regret being down there

The point of sweeps isn’t to kill people or “own the Webuls!” It’s to get people out of the sewer and onto the surface.

Going to be honest, this made no sense given the above context. The issue is not TBC itself - but the delay caused by one party being affected, and the other not. Which is a legitimate complaint.

People being tied up in combat are obviously not going to catch up to people who are not only unopposed but trying to get away. What is the issue here? That CP can’t mingerun towards players and just S2K them?

Tangentially, the latest sweep was kind of a powergame mess, so Equinox is at least talking about a related matter - that said, I don't think it explicitly affects Overwatch being perceived as combat gods if the debate is TBC/S2K and not a complaint about Overwatch behavior.
