Peculiarities
Personality: Optimistic, jovial, and down-to-earth when need be. Sinclair is a social butterfly, and enjoys lightening the mood. He is a generous soul, and is always willing to help a fellow man or woman who appears to be down in the dumps. That being said, Sinclair has been known to be arrogant at times, and has taken up staunch opposition to even the most minor of disputes. While he enjoys spreading a good atmosphere, he has been known to have a fiery temper, and is rumors abound among those close to him that he is a man who isn't afraid to get his hands dirty if need be.
Likes and Interests: Mister Wainright is a man who likes his liquor. He favors cigars, and loves a good coffee in the morning, though he is a rather nocturnal man. He has a business-oriented mind, and is often found in bars, sharing a laugh with friends. He favors those who play fair, and act fair, and loves to see happy faces. He enjoys dancing, singing, and jovial atmospheres. He loves to listen to jazz, ragtime, and classic rock. Mister Wainright also has a love for formal wear, but not too formal as to give the impression that he is shrewd or "snobbish."
Dislikes and Avoidances: Mister Wainright is a man who despises despair, and anything that causes it. Bullies, cheats, and cowards do not fly with Sinclair, and while he doesn't prefer violence, he is more than willing to step in and put an end to a dispute if need be. Mister Sinclair hates confinement and isolation, as well as direct oppression, though tends to tread carefully around the Civil Protection. Sinclair doesn't like drugs, and has a hatred for cockroaches and other insects of the "pest" kind. While he doesn't mind (and almost prefers) a dim and roomy atmosphere, he does not like outright filth or grime.
Languages: Sinclair only knows English, not bothering to learn languages of the nations around his homeland.
Religion: Christian
Background
Born into relative poverty, Sinclair R. Wainright was the son of a loving father and a lousy mother, along with one younger brother. While his ol' dad held down a suitable bartender job, his mother was unemployed, and had a nasty habit of wasting money on drugs. A lazy and sometimes cold lady, Sinclair often found himself outside of the house as to avoid her poor attitude, playing in the streets with his schoolmates and younger brother while trying to make the best of his life in poor conditions. This was part in parcel due to his father, who was almost an opposite to his mother. A kind and loving father, he always told Sinclair to "Keep a smile on your friend's face, cause they'll put a smile back on yours!"
Because of the cards he had been dealt with in life, the Wainright family was often "stuck in the past," their entertainment a mix of Dad's old belongings from his times, as well as the lack of money to afford the newer things in society. While he found himself in a world that was quickly leaving the scenes of the past, he remained attached to the world of old. While he grew up poor, he made the best of it all. In his teenage years, he was a rather rebellious sort, often getting in trouble with the law for petty crimes, while not exactly an honor student in his classes. When he wasn't out and about the city of London, he was spending time with his dad, who would let him stay in the pub he worked at, while also passing down many bartending tricks.
At the age of 18, Sinclair would graduate his schooling, and with no path to higher education he would go unemployed. It was in this period that Sinclair would enter a depressive rut. With no job and the waning health of his mother, he found himself wanting more in life, and took to spending his time with friends he had made before. He hated the idea of having to leech off others, but did it for his own survival, as he would not want to see himself living with his parents. While he stayed with friends, he would begin to pick up reading into history and business, which would spark a fascination in the prospect of running a company.
While Sinclair had no means of starting a business himself, he did see opportunity with his father. The owner of the pub his father worked at was looking to retire, and so with persuasive wording and negotiating, Sinclair would help his father secure the title of owner, while Sinclair himself became both a bartender and financial advisor to his father. With a steady paycheck, and the potential to grow, Sinclair helped his father turn their pub into a hot spot for entertainment at the age of 19.
With the shade over his life gone, Sinclair work as a bartender at the pub for five years, and was living the time of his life. Happy with his work, he would support his aging father, as well as his mother, who was in poor health from a life of drugs and terrible lifestyle. Sinclair was the life of the party in his father's pub, often paying for drinks on the house, and bonding with many patrons, including many ladies who he had been rather flirty with. Life was simple yet prosperous. At the age of 22, Sinclair's mother would pass, though her death was expected. Sinclair mourned her death, though found his mourning often distracted by comforting his father, who took it much worse. While Sinclair did not see the beauty his father found in mom, he understood that she meant a lot. Sinclair would move past the death of his mother. The same could not be said with the death of his father.
At the age of 24, Sinclair's father would meet an untimely death at the hands of a local gang member, who had shot him over a mugging. This would take a hefty toll on Sinclair's life, as he looked up to his father as the inspiration in his life. With a heavy heart, he took over the pub, but turned to his friends in these times to help him mourn his loss. Sinclair found himself eventually moving past his father's death, in part because of his friends, but also because of the wisdom his father left behind. Mr. Wainright knew that his father would want him to go on in his place, and spread joy and happy faces to the world. With a pub in his name, he would pick himself up, and with newfound vigor he would devote his life into ensuring the success of his father's bar.
And success he found, greater than he had ever hoped for. Sinclair would eventually acquire the means to branch out into multiple locations, getting in touch with local businesses and buying up multiple establishments, both in the bar scene and outside such as distilleries, local shops, and more. At the age of 25, Sinclair would find himself head over heels with a lovely woman, and would marry at the age of 26. His wife, a student in a school for business had often visited his pub, and they would go on to have a daughter and a son.
With a booming business, a loving family, and friends surrounding him, life would be perfect. Many years passed, and he raised his kids, being the best father he could be. With nothing but high hopes for those around him and himself, they would live happily ever after.
And then the Resonance Cascade happened. At the age of 31 (and soon to be 32), he would awaken one morning to find London, and the rest of the world for that matter, in utter chaos. Mister Wainright did not understand the creatures that invaded, nor did he want too. He was too concerned about his families safety. In the aftermath of it all, Sinclair's business would take a heavy hit. With prices skyrocketing across the globe and a lack of supply hitting his pub, life was hard, but soon he'd find a small bounce back as many would come to drown their newfound sorrows in his establishment. He didn't like it, not one bit. The Resonance Cascade brought hard times upon the business, but not upon his soul. With an invigorated purpose, he would see to it that smiles were put on the faces of the hopeless. Taking on debt, he would keep his business afloat, if only to bring happiness to a world in chaos.
But nothing he could do could prepare for what came only three years later. The Universal Union. He was there when reality was bended, and massive holes were torn in the sky. In the safety of his home in the English suburbs, he would hunker down with his family and witness the destruction of the world around him, amidst the 7 Hour War.
When the bloodshed had ended, the Wainright family arose into the new world, only to be greeted by the cold presence of the Combine. Taken through processing, he was promised the safe and sound return of his family. This proved to be, at least in his own head, a mistake on their part. He would not see his wife, or (now adult) children after that. His anger was quickly met with authority, though it would not stop him, and he found himself in detainment, starting off his new life in a rather rough manner.
The days of waiting turned to weeks. Sinclair found himself struck with a brief period of depression. The absence of his family wore on his mental health. The only thing carrying him on was the fact that, at least in his optimism, they were alive and well within these massive cities, just somewhere else in the giant world. Sinclair would be stationed in City 2, in London, but found that his pub had been destroyed during the 7 Hour War, bringing even more despair as his father's establishment was reduced to rubble.
But eventually, he would be relocated out of the quickly degrading City 2. Sinclair believed his family was still alive, and while he may not be there for them, he knew that they were adults as well. His father wouldn't want to see him living the rest of his life, a walking mess of a man. Sinclair picked himself up once again, and at the age of 47, he now wanders the streets of the new world. He can't make everyone happy, but he sure as hell can try. One day, he will find his family again, or die trying. When he does, he'll be glad to say that he had many friends who carried him back home.
