alright, the server won’t recover from this. Portal storm on the horizon, CCA fucked over, OSF forces drained. Just start the end of v2.

While I appreciate everything the French team is doing to actually get V3 out, if the Rebel faction can't actually impact the server or storyline in any meaningful way then we're just going to get repeats of today.

Set the server post-Episode 2. Please let us just fuck around and find out.

We wish for the rebel faction to be more interesting and perhaps giving them more activities than just looting and shooting at cops, we truly wish to endorse an more roleplay-oriented actions, such as infiltration, sabotage or smaller raid in Combine cache. Nothing yet is finish or proprelly planned as of today, but if we can get more alternative path as a rebel, it would be nice.

With V3 this can be better accommodated due to the systems that are in place and how rooted they are. With this new reset, there can be an easier access for rebels to do infiltration, sabotage and smaller raids. We've come to a point now, that there is no fixing the problems in V2 because they are so rooted and ingrained that it's more feasible to pull out the roots and start from scratch, and this isn't just the problems for the rebels. It can fix other problems plaguing other factions.

I also think V3 really needs to scale itself back narratively. People feel like they can have more of an impact when you aren't undermining the main server by having people run off and doing world-shaking things in events every other week.

Make the groups/characters on server the main characters of their own little peice of the HL2 story. Let them change the lore surrounding one individual city, rather than exploring the whole wide world all the time.

If we can fix the plague of the constant CvR, and all the dramas that goes with it afterward, I will be an happier man for sure, I cannot stand the same dramas over and over for the same CvR related events.

Please do take into consideration the points brought up in this thread about how the rebel faction should probably be encouraged to interact more with the citizen faction. I hope it can at least help a little. https://willard.network/forums/thre...-would-get-you-to-play-them-more-often.15558/

honestly a lot of things regarding the shittier parts of willard (so rebel opportunities and narrative cohesion mostly) can be solved without a fundamental change to the gameplay framework.

does anything mechanically prevent rebels from infiltration? no, what does prevent them is 300 layers of red tape from faction leads and zero incentives. why risk your characters life for infiltration when a fav lead is gonna say "no lol" to any type of sabotage you attempt? why risk your characters life when even the et / staff wont allow your character to have much impact? by contrast if you just kill the right person thru s2k (as seen today even!) you can create a cascade of events that fucks everything up in just a couple of hours.

as for narrative cohesion, where do i even start? willard needs to find an aesthetic, tone, plotline and goals for every individual map we're on and actually stick to it. so much shit got derailed, not entirely caused by gms by the way, because someone in an influential position went "wait no lol this sounds cooler" without actually consulting anyone. really, there needs to be much tighter control on both the story of the server and the universe while being fairly freeform in how that story is affected by the regular joe. there shouldnt be any src or krot or whatever because that stuff only hurts the setting and player enjoyment.

theres a lot more i could write on this but its late

I'm so serious when I say don't pull a Star Wars Sequel trilogy and plan. out. the. storyline. of V3. ahead. of. time!!!!!
Make it basic, make it flexible, but just make it.

this red tape is the result of everything (and i mean literally every single fucking thing) being outsourced to OOC planning solutions like discord and the forums. how can you ever expect to find useful data or sabotage something in-game when everything there is to know is told to people out of character or through discord channels that require a discord role a rebel is never gonna get?

if you actually had to roleplay on the roleplay game to do things then we wouldn't even have to have this discussion but pretty much everything that matters (still not much) is on the forums or discord

Its also the result of people being given an inch and taking a mile. Its easier to break something than it is for staff to fix it after the fact, which means its a simple decision to have red tape beforehand to cut the chance of that happening.

Every time someone wishes to progress to V3 early V2 gets one week longer.

Pace yourselves people, we're nearing the end of a 5 year long relay race style marathon.

Don't trip before the finish!

i will find a way to mass shotcop in v3
dont worry people
i wont let that v2 spark die out

My PC been down so long, we changing server versions... Fuck me man.

Unless there is a plan to ensure the server doesn't end up right back in the sorry state it is right now, I dont see the purpose in moving to V3 in a technical sense. What use is V3 if it becomes another V2, mere months in.

Honestly I changed my mind on this.

V2 feels as if its genuinely just draining community morale at this stage. Staff are not interested in improving it and SC don't seem capable of doing so. I actually think its not worth keeping this up as its only draining the community to endure this broken setting and system. It genuinely feels, between DM's or public discords, only a remote few are satisfied with the state of things.

Maybe it is only me, but the more mistakes made on V2, the less faith I find myself having for V3. Its just draining and making me less and less optimistic for any future promises. Everyone seems angry at the state of things - moreover - that the server is only getting worse.

I don't want V2 to end in the sense I dont want all our stories to get burnt, but Im not sure any of our stories are worth the toll being collected right now. It might be a better call to just close V2 and put stock in Short Stories to fill the void with creative events during the inevitably long downtime.

Or, maybe making a community poll on the matter of whether to fast-track its end or not? I don't claim to know what everyone is thinking, I only know how I feel currently and what I hear across the discords. There is very little positive language being used for the server currently. And that's spreading between members now too.

What we should do is right here

I, and many others, seem to be fine with V2 ending at some point within the next two months.

However,

we risk untold damage if the ending is completely asspulled with no regard to continuity, player agency, or any true sense of 'ending' beyond my aforementioned fade to black.

No, we shouldn't go to City 17. No, Gordon Freeman/Lambda shouldn't Deus Ex Machina onto the doorstep of Geneva. No, Orwell shouldn't end things off with a really insane policy choice that forces everyone to revolt.

There should be an effort for something more.
