Mankind in its present state has been around for a quarter of a million years, yet only the last 4,000 have been of any significance.
So, what did we do for nearly 250,000 years? We huddled in caves and around small fires, fearful of the things that we didn't understand. It was more than explaining why the sun came up, it was the mystery of enormous birds with heads of men and rocks that came to life. So we called them 'gods' and 'demons', begged them to spare us, and prayed for salvation.
In time, their numbers dwindled and ours rose. The world began to make more sense when there were fewer things to fear, yet the unexplained can never truly go away, as if the universe demands the absurd and impossible.
Mankind must not go back to hiding in fear. No one else will protect us, and we must stand up for ourselves.
While the rest of mankind dwells in the light, we must stand in the darkness to fight it so that others may live in a sane and normal world.
We die in the dark so that you may live in the light.

We are an anomaly in history, dear ones.
We are a tiny drop in the sea of time, and yet the ripples we have caused are becoming tidal waves. And no matter how hard they try to stop the relentless assault on our ideas
But I cannot wait. I cannot yet embrace this new future without a great fear wrapping itself around my neck like an invisible hand - destined to
stifle all the longings I have to return to you.
Forgive me.

A gray-bearded historian sits in front of a bookcase of dusty tombs, smoking a pipe as he speaks with a distinct Southern accent to the soldier who has just walked in.

What can you tell us, old man?
When we think of some of the more notable personalities of the era, perhaps those we see in movies come to mind - the hero of Phoenix, the fiftieth president, the bastards of Baltimore. These people are more in line with what we think is right and American. Much to my publisher's dissatisfaction, I tend not to write about them.
He bites the pipe with a cheeky grin on his happy face.
But I think it's hard to ignore the more eccentric characters of the period - especially those of the last decade or so, though for me, of course, Stella Maeve and her family are among the most interesting.
The historian adjusts his glasses as if reading from his notes.
Most of this woman's early history has been lost to us - either through the occupiers or through her own efforts.
Stella Maeve was born around █████████ in Germany, in this small town south of ██████ ... But you'll have to read one of my grandfather's books to find out more about this place.
He smiles.
Growing up in the dirt, father and siblings hated Stella, though the father had a bigger problem, supposedly he set her eye on fire once, but that's just superstition, the only one who can testify to that is probably herself. Well then. Her mother had done her best for her little girl, but her father sent her to a special commando of the German army against her will, he had hoped she would die in such agony. As the youngest member of the family, she knew how to talk her way out of everything and use information to her advantage.
The historian pauses and lights another cloud of tobacco from his pipe.
At nineteen, Stella was still not dead, no, she had developed acute or temporary psychotic disorders to not trust anyone, not even herself, she only wished for one thing, to see her mother again, but her education got in the way, and her readiness for the armed forces.
She was assigned to Washington, some say to become a soldier, others to spy.
I bet Stella was a lowly spy
Well... Stella did both in secret.
The historian looks down at some kind of paper he's holding
Washington began to burn, she heard her division overrun Gettysburg and then all the units in the battle died like flies. Stella withdrew and lived her life, a regular job as a packer was her next port of call.
Although she wasn't really separated from the German army, she did a lot of government parties.... For almost 5 years, no one knew of Stella's actual vocation.
5 years, that's longer than I've been fighting the Combine....
Stella had the brilliant idea to look backwards, not forwards. She gathered information, delivered it and was gone before the enemy even noticed her
Not a trace, not even corpses. She didn't like corpses because her father indirectly forced her to kill, and every death reminds Stella why she can do that.
The historian leans back smugly in his chair and bites his pipe.
Clever
...
The controversy surrounding this woman is definitely nearing the end of her activities - now I know we're getting ahead of ourselves. But when the 7 Hour war started, she moved to hide and not get killed at all.
She had been on her own for just 2 years now, no communication from the Federal Government - no support, no family.
She was completely alone?
The historian chuckles briefly and nods.
What is with friends, does she have friends now?
Yes, Well who knows if they are friends, but she talks to others, but what is behind her real writings is still for Stellas and if rumours are right, she has it somewhere in City 24.
He adjusts his glasses and turns his attention back to his notes.

Let's beginn with Sha, it seems Sha is a non human, So I guess it's one of the Vortigaunts. but without shakles and it's friendly towards her, She got something from it, but the rest is ripped from my notes
Toast.✟.. Another name for a Vortigaunt.. maybe an Alias or a coincidence, Heh... This is a unique paper, As for what I can read is that Stella don't know how she should feel about it, should she tell the truth about her? She likes the Vortigaunt, it helped her to many times... But a request turned tables, I hope it's not to late for both.
A Vortigaunt with a grey Poncho and Leeches on a rope is entering the room from a dark corner.
"We feel that this statement does not correspond to the present truth, one of our kin has taken from the subjugation of the Combine, we feel that the one you call 'Toast' has a strong connection with The Stella. Now with Toast being part of the all in one it isn't possible for Stella to meet him"
The Vortigaunt waits for a while and occasionally blinks each of his eyes, when he straightens his rope an odor resembling a fish is emitted. His nostrils fill with the stench of the leech and turns away from the two and rummages through some books. As Another Vortigaunt comes from outside, entering the Library, a youngling it opens up his eyes and takes a deep breath of the dust-filled room, a quick lighting bulb emits from his palms, The Vortigaunt isn't smiling, he walks towards the other Vortigaunt speaking to him.
The Historian bites his pipe and lifts it up towards the Vortigaunt
My bad, seems like I still have more to read about Stella and her friends, this place keeps even secrets from me...but I can clearly see what you mean by that now.
Are there anymore Vortigaunts?
No, not really.. But some sort of Civil Protector.. I take it from only numbers as a name, It's'50259'✟. Another person who is nice to Stella, something bond her together.. a situation of some sort, she seems to be worried if she has done something to her in a bad way... even tho I'm not sure if it's still present. We have to wish for her she never finds out what happened.
or 'Twelve' She hates him for sure, this is writen down with such a hate I can feel it... it seems he was like a mockingbird to her, telling lies and just wanted to annoy her.
It seems 'Ten' has done something similiar, probably the same day she wrote that down
The historian opens a drawer and puts some notes in it, then he locks this drawer and puts the key in his pocket
Keller, Pathfinder and Ge are all in some sort of the same group, the names are just written down with a big questionmark, she used to do this when she is unsure what to think about them.
And we have someone with two Alias.. Dev or Paladin
Paladin, it reminds me of someone, funny how everything connects, isn't it
Well as for what is written down here, she should call him Dev, because Paladin is an alias for all the enemies of him... She likes him, but is unsure about the second alias. Even tho he seems like a great guy in her eyes, she even gave him a book of some kind, A bible a strong trade she did there for just a book, but it was her second gift ever.
But someone called Wildcard saved her at some part, taking her life at risk to help, even tho she got missed maybe an MIA who knows, she seems to be like an angel if times get hard, she shows up, she liked that and keeps it in her mind for sure. Or not, well only she can tell...
So someone helped her for just.. nothing in return, that's strange, but this times are different I guess
Not only one..Scav ✟here has more than a Note, this one is a full on Din A4 paper. Strange, even for me to read that, and I have read it a few times. It seems she likes him for all the help and teaching she got from him, she put one of her fears up to kill someone who tried to kill both of them, a mark from the past reminds her of this day. But Scav and Stella did a lot together. Both are having quit the time.
The vortigaunt brushes dust from the surface of the shelf, the scratching of its claws on wood can be heard throughout the room, everyone is quiet for a moment as he takes some notes from the shelve. The stomping of the Vortigaunt is heard with a slimy sound of leeches. It moves to the historian and hands them a note. The deep wise voice of the vortigaunt is heard
"We found this in the shelf marked by tides. About the one you call Scav."
The vortigaunt stays for a while and looks around quietly
Arent those Vortigaunts something special.. so wise and can life on for thousand of years, I have to look more into them in the future. Anyway.. let me get a Look.
The Historian adjusts his glasses.
Scav is some sort of Leader, fighting for everyone and even for Stella, On the one hand Scav seems to do a few jokes about her, but it's okay for Stella, On the other hand he seems to be hurt quite a lot for that time.. Stella is worried and wants to help him at all cost.- But she trusts him for sure. she wanted to go on a suicide mission just because Scav was ready to protect her. Stella seems to be happy and took the time to write this all.. something that she does rarely, Scav is a special human.. One that comes once every hundred years for sure.
The Historian stays quiet as his facial expression and his calm voice changes

He bangs on the table as embers fall from his pipe and burns parts of the note, he quickly puts out the starting fire and gets a small metal box from below the table, he carefully puts those notes inside, closing it with a lock as he sighs. He starts to speak in an old wise manner once again.
Stella will have to deal with it one way or another. but I promise Stella will never forget his name.. Scav may he rest in peace.
Now Handler It seems that Stella has lost hope of finding her real mother in this world after all those years. She would do anything for Handler and is glad she found her or.. handler found her in a more specific way. Stella's Life for hers is what she wrote down here. But once again a mother is... lost
The Historian shows the note towards the Soldier
Hmm, another psycho thing?
For what I see I would agree with that a few Notes are left.
Dismas and Finch. Dismas It seems she disliked Dismas on the first meet up, she wants to save him from his own thought, I wonder how she tries to do that.. His body is near dead but his mind is still in a good shape, but as time went by Stella tried to help him going over his illness and about his thoughts. probably to a good, they found each other, even a small heart is drawn on the bottom corner of the note, if he finds out how Stella really is, things will change.
I always like this part of the Note, he gave her a small metal cross, he seems to be spiritual, Stella gained a piece of new information with that. Anyway..-
I don't like to look at Finch's note... she hated him and probably killed him by accident or not.
So she is a Rebel?
He shakes his head and bites on his pipe
A Loyalist?
That's the fun part, not even I myself know what she is... she keeps her real goals for herself, her past seems to be still there, somewhere deep inside
Only one thing is clear, her mask will not fall without her wanting to let it fall. Maybe that day will never come
Was it her desire to follow orders rather to give them?
Heck, maybe she just loves to be a spy.
A CP suited female walks from the backrooms into the main library, she holds a backpack with a word or some kind on it..."Protector" She keeps the mask on as she chuckles
<::So this place looks like this?::>
She sits herself onto the end of the counter onto some wooden boards, she awaits someone for sure.
The historian leans over and takes off his glasses, looking at the CP-disguised female for a brief moment but ignoring her for the time being.
The Soldier tightens his grip onto his pistol, keeping an eye on her.
Personally, I just think this woman was looking for a new dead one - and it was going to be against one who let her friends die. She had spent her entire adult life fighting and spying, how does a woman return to civilian life after that?
Good I joined the 7th Cavalry, I don't know what happened to her.
Whatever it was, I hope the woman found some peace - at least in the end.
Suddenly a female walks into the library, dust on her leather jacket and a gas mask on her face combined with a boonie on her head, the lenses of the gas mask are covered due to the heavy breathing and the long time she had it on. Everyone inside that room is looking at her as she takes a moment, looking at each one and shakes her head. She points towards a pile of bricks and everyone gets to work building up a wall inside the library. It surely takes a while, but for now, they are all working. Only the historian stands still.
The historian bites his pipe, finally relaxes - he turns his head and stares out the window at the setting sun as the soldier walked out after the story
So That's how the story ends.
As Suddenly a female with rebel insignia comes inside the room and kicks over a few bricks. The female is wearing a red beanie. Everyone stops the work and looks over. The leather jacket female bursts in tears as she walks closer to her, hugging her and feeling the warmth of her body.
"I was so afraid of my past mistakes, I..- I was ashamed when I realized that life is a masked ball and I was participating with my real face. That I welded a mask onto my face I'm scared I can't take of anymore"
The red beenie headed female stays quiet for the while and releases the hug, kicking more bricks over and over
The historian bites the pipe with a cheeky grin on his happy face.
The fight that nearly killed her at all, that nearly got her imprisoned, with her liking or without her liking changed and sparked something inside of her, I can feel it. But now is the time to find out if someone blows the flame out or fuels it. Only time can tell
He seems to be excited and writes down a few things onto the still empty paper.
...
I think we've got it all figured out now
The soldier pushed back his cap and wiped his wrinkled, sweaty brow.
Good, they'll be here soon!
The driver yelled over the violent revving of the engine, smoke gurgling from the exhaust.
The veteran reached out and helped his younger comrade climb into the tank once more.
The olive drab vehicles had been burning in the hot sun for hours, and the American steel blistered the skin if one was brave enough to touch them with a bare hand. Ahead of them lay a beleaguered column of Combine, whom they had routed since recapturing █████████, marching along the cracked and disreputable highways that once snaked like great veins through the beating heart of Europe. Now they coagulated with the remnants of a dying army - in full retreat.
The veteran peered through his binoculars and nodded his head slightly - now was the time to signal.
Tons of manpower and equipment were thrown into the air as the hidden explosives vaporized in the center of the retreating column. The veteran couldn't help but grin, breaking his professional demeanor, if only for a moment, and tapping his colleague who had planted the explosives firmly on the shoulder.
Stoneman-1, we'll get you a case of beer for this.
A monotone voice announced through the vehicle radio.
As the rain of blood and metal pounded against the highway ahead of them, the veteran leaned back into the tank's command position, slammed the hatch shut and secured it with a wave of his hand.
This is Stoneman-1,Squadron moving up
The vehicle's tracks began to move forward, along with the other two combat vehicles on its flanks, as they took the formation of a spearhead and headed straight for the heart of their defeated enemy. An act of euthanasia, more so than one of war.
Take it away, ███. Let's dance
An old public address system the squadron had rescued from one of the many empty American schools came to life, and music began to play over the approaching steps - soon to be harvested by machine gun fire and cannon thunder as American revenge.

A CP suited female walks from the backrooms into the main library, she holds a backpack with a word or some kind on it...
