The American South

The American South is a large section of sparsely populated land in North America. The American South, similar to the American Wastelands, has been largely abandoned due to the fact that common portal storms and a growing Xenian threat result in a lack of any major settlements for the most part. Again, similar to the American Wastelands, there are are rare settlements and sparse Combine frontier posts. Some of these outposts serve purposes such as monitoring areas of interest, logging, firewatch, xenian infestation control, and expeditions into certain areas. However unlike the American Frontier to the West, they often don't serve the purpose of agriculture or ranching.

However, the American South suffers from a variety of issues. Its swampy environment, such as the region of Florida and the Bayous of Louisiana, are perfect breeding grounds for Xenian creatures and infestation. As such, it's a constant battle on the part of the cities of Miami and New Orleans and the numerous outposts in the South to prevent a major Xenian Infestation forming such as the one on the American West Coast. Furthermore, Hurricanes (often combined with Portal Storms) strike the South and wreck havoc across the region on a yearly basis, sometimes multiple times a year.

However, despite all of its problems, the American South is still home to some cities. New Orleans and Miami are two major cities which, while struggling, still exist in the South.

Red Cities are most notably either cities in a outright uprising or in a state in which they could potentially collapse in the near future and thus can only be placed in such a state for a temporary period prior to being moved to either Orange or Blue (or Purple/Critical if it gets worse).

So, I hope that the reason why its Red is made very clear. Lest you be attacked by a Owl.


Edit: Reading the Miami lore I think that's more of a Orange then a Red. There is a active resistance and its known, but its not actively rebelling.
