So during the short stories event today, I went a little sicko mode and got banned for the rest of the day and a half left of the event. I thought it was interesting to just make a post going through all of what happened during my time.
It all started when I applied to the event, openly applying that my character, a CP, was going to start off completely rogue and working against the combine in secret with rebel contacts. This gets accepted and I make my character and whatnot.
The Beginning
So everyone knows the Willard Industries building is up to some shady shit at about day 2 and 3, some even during day 1. I believe it was about day 2 I decided to creep into the willard industries building and go into the room labeled as completely restricted to everyone. Naturally I look around while no-one is there and snap some pictures of the mysterious project being worked on by the evil scientists. I'm found by a researcher on my way out but only get a scolding and some suspicion planted on me.
Prepping for mission impossible
I forward the information and photos to my contact in the resistance and over the course of two or three days we slowly gather resources. Men, explosives, weapons, and even an active CP suit which I put a fake tagline on for my contact to use in the operation. All was going pretty well as we slowly started to learn more about what the hell was happening in there.
Our goal was to find a certain scientist, take him to a secluded location, and then either convince him to aid us in our goal or to take him hostage, forcing him to bring us inside the facility under the threat of death. Hardly a foolproof plan, but from our characters perspectives getting in and blowing up all the CPRD's research was the easy part, it was only a question of whether we could get out alive.
Prep included me funneling a multitude of breaching charges, a whole active CP suit, stunstick, and meds.
Another notable moment was when my contact was staged to be MMR'd, my character very subtly managed to render him immune to its effects, saving him from forgetting his time inside the restricted area in the CPRD's torture dungeon (all while OTA were breathing down our neck during the whole thing).
We also contacted the local rebel groups and asked for their help, in which they agreed (but some were subsequently PK'd for unrelated reasons). Two of them were to join in on the ruse, wearing CWU hazmat uniforms alongside my agent wearing a CP uniform. It was a lot of espionage planned.
So far, everything seemed to go well!
The day of the op.
So finally, after spending pretty much the ENTIRE event planning for this one operation that was most likely to end in our deaths, we hit a TON of roadblocks which include, but weren't limited to:
OTA occupying the building
The soon-to-be hostage being nowhere to be seen
Someone telling us that blowing up the project would only send it into the city, causing some moral

So finally, after spending pretty much the ENTIRE event planning for this one operation that was most likely to end in our deaths, we hit a TON of roadblocks which include, but weren't limited to:
OTA occupying the building
The soon-to-be hostage being nowhere to be seen
Someone telling us that blowing up the project would only send it into the city, causing some moral
and our other guys, who were set to be disguised in CWU hazmat suits, weren't available when the operation ACTUALLY occurred
So, nearing the end of Day 6 we make a sudden decision to say 'fuck it' and do it. ICly it's because we could not risk the CPRD finishing whatever research they had on that thing, and OOCly was because the event was coming close to an end and we definitely were not gonna have a chance to do anything on Day 7. So, my operative gets his CP suit, and I get ready to grab the soon-to-be hostage.
I find the scientist and tell him to come with me to a secluded corner. Long story short, I give him a plastic container, saying 'this is a bomb. If you try to yell or threaten our mission you will die instantly.' After saying that, my man, who is in a CP suit and is at the mercy of ANYONE going "hey... wait... there isn't even a unit called JAJJI-4!" wanders up. Things seem to be going well as the scientist reluctantly agrees, and begins to walk over.
The downward spiral
But all of the sudden, the scientist turns around and is stuck on 'performing...' for a while. Obviously at this point I knew things were gonna go bad as the scientist chucks the plastic box into the confined space, yells 'BOMB! IT'S A BOMB!' and runs away with no further elaboration. Of course, due to his poor attempt at outing me and my man, the RL and every bystander around thinks he's gone insane - leaving me able to shoot him with impunity.
He survives and is hauled off into the CMU and me and my man are stuck wondering "oh god what the fuck do we do now? shit. Fuck." AND to top it all off, suddenly a host of event rebels start shooting at the CPs as the scientist is being hauled off into the CMU. I screamed into the radio for my agent to run for his life (where he's almost killed by a rebel thinking he really is a CP lmao) and he escapes. From then on, I ponder what to do.
My cover is blown.
I contemplate killing the scientist for his attempt at fucking me over but decide that since he's a main server character and that I'm an event character it would be a bit rude.
So, in my panic at having everything ripped out from under me I decide that I must kill the CPRD scientist nearby.
Though unfortunately, a nearby minister with a revolver looked like one of them and was subject to me doing something along the lines of '/mel shoots into the back of the scientist. He's a double agent!' and proceed to kill him dead. Though the shootout between CPs and event rebels is still ongoing so I still have time to do some more trolling before I'm found out.
I SPRINT to the willard industries building, seeing a CP captain and the CPRD scientist i planned on murdering in the lobby. Stepping back out, I prepare a /me where I burst in and open fire on them, but only to hear the scientist leave in the elevator and the captain steps out as I'm typing my /me out. As this happens, one of the cops on TAC-3 outright calls me out, asking why I killed a minister. And with a captain literally right next to me and telling me to lower my gun, in a panic I spray the poor bastard down albeit without a /me after saying "Apologies."
After this, I'm fucked. I run to the willard building and call the elevator up, hoping to make it to the lab and murder the CPRD scientist and complete my mission, though the extremely slow-ass elevator didn't arrive in time as a RL bursted in and shot me down.
And so, I was banned for the rest of the event because in my haste I didn't /me killing the captain. Plus the captain got to roleplay surviving. As for the minister, I have no clue.
Bit sad that I couldn't stay and watch the rest of the event unfold but it is what it is.
Worth it.
Since the cat is out of the bag about the secrets in the CPRD I'll post the document we set up where we planned the whole thing.
