The current deplorable state of vortigaunt roleplay

overgeneralize your playerbase, get cynical and stop listening whenever you feel like it

grow up, dude. if you can't handle the responsibility, don't take on it
what

what i stated was simple facts, wasn’t me trying to avoid responsibility, that is simply what happens.

I’m going to talk with CP leads, and Denuke and try to find some sort of middle ground as to try make vortigaunt gameplay a little less oppressive and a little more fun.

At the end of the day, there will be complaints no matter what, but as long as the players that I lead are having fun, I don’t care 💀

I think most vorts in the faction would agree with the things I wrote in my post, I tried to make sure I provided reasoning for everything I requested, and besides the ''deactivation procedure'', everything else requires a tremendously short amount of time to implement, I'll however leave this up to you and the other FL's... But may I request to PLEASE be allowed to read the changes alongside all the other WL holders that you will try and push trough BEFORE you actually push them trough? So that all of us can provide insight on what effects it will have on the actual server using our experiences?

You should try and make it more oppressive, why be a vortigaunt if you cant handle the gameplay? Vorts should literally just be tools, they should hate city life and want to escape it bro, not stay in it.

over my head bro
It's okay. I apologize for not giving any information other than quoting. It's referencing that satire without conveyance of intent is nebulous whether it is genuine parody or sincere.

On a a more personal note I prefer a Biotic Faction with less oppression and far less grind, but currently that is nearly impossible with our current stock of combine players which do not prefer this faction to be a easy ride in any regard.

Not to echo what Maroon said, but perhaps it's better if you start using the names of the people who do this. (Most of*) The entire force is against beating you - IC and OOC. I could not conjure a single character who actively goes out of their way to hinder biotics that is dressed in a CP uniform. I guess it's mostly compensatory as for we really think the new "biotic mandate" took things too far.

Our policy is "try to get the other person to have fun" and while I'm aware some break it at times (and more than sometimes they should) I'd argue it's especially true with biotics.

I didn't wanna chime in because I'm not a vortigaunt player - least not yet, but it is true that what deterred me from joining is seeing all of its players so discontent so very often. I don't care that it's hard to become freed or not or whatever, as it stands many of us CP have to go out of our way IC and OOC to give them something to do that isn't sweeping the floor or yelling at them for talking with people without having willingly decided to injure their brain with a drill.

EDIT: Something to also note is the rather 'questionable' RP quality of some biotics/vorts as it has been pointed out by some people in this thread before, too. I don't think having 'harsher apps' or 'being more picky' is gonna fix it; I just think that as it stands the vortigaunt guides are so convoluted and frankly boring that they allow no expressivity. And the attempts at 'expressivity' currently executed fall flat because they lack any sort of real support for 'outside of the norm' vortigaunt behaviour. It just feels that while there might be 60 pages of lore it's used more as a shackle than something to experiment with.

the truth is that half the time, a CP player calling for more """oppression""" does so out of selfish reasons. they fetishize their own ability to create a dreary atmosphere, and want their ability to do so expanded, all the while losing perspective for how it's going to affect the players they interact with.
I'll finish this on a note. For all of the oppression talk I've seen in the forums, I've not seen any of the people of the actual unit roster take part in the debate in favour of more oppression. Kinda the opposite. Most of us want you guys to have fun and we know that just slamming harder on the fascist throttle is pretty boring - for us too. I'd argue that half the people asking for "more oppression" don't actually play the faction - or the server at all. Or play characters so disconnected from their main loop, their opinion should be null & void anyway. 'If the guy joins once every three months, maybe he should not talk' kinda deal.

Think of it this way, too - giving you more room to be yourselves and be mischievous also gives the CP more opportunities to actually do stuff rather than patrol in circles or do the boring ass loyalty checks every five minutes.

I’m going to talk with CP leads, and Denuke and try to find some sort of middle ground as to try make vortigaunt gameplay a little less oppressive and a little more fun.💀
This might be just me, but following what I've said about all this, maybe it's the CCA you want to crack down on. After all, units're pretty much forced to follow the protocols they set over our own. Any traces of "biotic oppression" from the CP come (very reluctantly) from that hyper anti-player 'biotic mandate' that was made, and the directives given to us afterward.

EDIT : Don't get me wrong, I'm not speaking from the perspective of 'waaah, grind hard, I want easy thing', no. I've played through the grind. I didn't say so much as a word about it and I worked hard to get it. A month. A month of time to get to this point. Interspersed with roleplay, which I had to do in sacrifice to lack of progression within the city, which is the environment we are all funneled to one way or another.

The fact grinding is more rewarding than roleplaying in a roleplay server, not only in the vort faction but in all of them, speaks volumes of the state of roleplay, its quality, and its thresholds in the server.

I've seen people unironically defend "time" as an argument against progression. "You became i1 too quick", I was told once. "I had to grind it for eight months", I was also told. Why is this like this? It's some odd gatekeeping.

How about we start rewarding good characters and punishing bad ones, instead of treating "time invested" as a currency with more value than anything else? "You can't be X, you've been Y only for Z long." MF, how about you start considering whether I'm good enough for that position instead or not? Isn't that more "realistic"?

There's so many people in positions of relative power, IC, that're only there 'because the character has been around for a lot' and has been handed progression in the ladders as a reward, often through the grind and not merit. Be it CP, loyalist, vort, rebel - doesn't matter. And since they're often only after the 5 minute dopamine of having achieved a step in the grind, they get the 'rank' and suddenly become extremely inactive.

And most importantly, how about we stop calling out people who want roleplay over staring at the same four dry walls 14 hours a day as 'haters' or 'babies who whine and want to have it easy', and instead start calling out the people who wanna act like you need to drop school and your job if you wanna have a chance at actually having fun?

People are infatuated with ranks and progression through grind because that is all that is ever reinforced in the server. If people had to actually be good at roleplay to get these positions, it'd be much healthier. We'd have the typical "NEPOTISM" cry-chatter but I'd honestly take those chances at it being a bit iffy over having to spend 400 hours enslaved only to die because sweep rules state you must give the OTA a fourty minute handjob with sixteen million trackers and a frankly shitty map with no chance of survival just 'because it's realistic'.

The CCA did not write the Biotic Mandate, nor do I believe we ever actually involved on an OOC Level. We were asked to give an IC speech over the broadcast, and etc.

Our involvement on an IC Level was announcing protocols / changes given to us by the Vortigaunt Leads. As far as I’m concerned, we were essentially the messengers.

There are also IC Measures in place preventing CCA from even touching the biotic mandate. We can’t personally alter it in any way, shape, or form to our liking. The Global Biotic Mandate was enacted by the Global Administration. (Vort Leads).

TL;DR - We did what was asked of us. We do not control the mandate. We told CPs what the Higher Power told us to do.

To say I even thought of this would be a stretch; I guess I did, I just didn't want to believe it. I guess we're now being called out on very half-heartedly enforcing it by the same people that enacted it...

I'm closing this thread on the advise of RAD-X.

Now, since I'm technically Hard LOA (aka "in another state on my laptop"). I would prefer to not continue discussion on this matter until the start of next week when I return to full activity at this community.

When I do return, I will start a new discussion thread which will include a couple of polls which will determine opinions regarding the future direction of the Biotics at this community regarding the amount of oppression (BWM/Loyalist System) and a few other factors such as the infamous escape protocols. This will not be limited to the Vortigaunt Faction and I will (along with @Kaffee) gather opinions from across the community regarding how people feel about these documents.

Thank You.
