As many of you know, the change of map has allowed us to have an outlands portion; this is primarily untouched as of this moment due to the idea of 'splitting the player base. I do agree that there is evidence to support that idea. However, it has become quite daunting to those who have made characters that do not conform to everyday city life.

At the moment, OTA can PK, shoot on sight anyone within the outlands; additionally, game-masters have been making it impossible to remain within the outlands.

One of the key things I was excited about in the map change was the ability to make an outland community; this is currently not possible due to the proximity of buildings.

I would personally like to see that it be changed, that it should be legal to inhabit the outlands, with no support from overwatch / City life.

While I don't think it should be legal, I have to wonder if maybe it'd be a bit better if it wasn't a PK, like an NLR and losing anything you have sounds like enough of a punishment. But I don't have a lot of experience with rebelRP, so take that with a grain of salt.

Which still won't prevent units from running around shooting everyone on sight; it should be legal to merely be in the outlands, living.

I think whoever decided the administration and police should be cartoonishly oppressive (Nearing the point of being HL2-accurate) are going to have it backfire, every single person ive asked about this hates it and ive seen a lot of people complaining about being bored and losing interest in the map fast. I really hope you guys have a long-term plan for District 9...

also yeah the outlands are made so risky as to make rp there not worth it 99% of the time. so unless OTA enjoy patrolling empty fields i think something should be done.

I do remember there being a poll about how oppressive the server should be and the most common answer was like, an 8 out of 10 or something, with the 10 option being what we have now with "You can't talk in the streets". Alot of the discussion was about what your describing, with an overly oppressive situation being detrimental to people's enjoyment of the server.

yes the conclusion was literally "this will ruin rp" and the creative direction saw that and said "yeah lets do that"

Enjoyable for those in power, not for those whom are not.

Ngl people will not be able to see the genuinely beautiful plainfields in the third part of the outlands. Like, I'm not joking when I say it's fucking breathtaking the first time you look at it. Makes you genuinely feel like you're in a Half-Life 2 setting instead of Alyx. It fucking sucks that it's restrictive, but I can see why.

This is not a good idea as it will immeasurably damage the server by splitting the player-base so heavily that neither side can have any fun due to total detachment. History has shown this kills servers without exception.

Outlands are good for objectives or events, specially tailored and temporary affairs the enable their use without allowing the players to isolate themselves and contribute nothing to the players that arguably matter the most - the citizens. The outlands are too big and too wide to encourage interaction between themselves let alone the city at large.

(Sidenote: It would make no sense for living in the outlands to be legal.)

its day 2 brah give it some time to develop smh

what's the point of anything if you can just go walk out with no supplies and live in the post-apocalyptic wilderness immediately after arriving with no issue?

if people in outlands are KOS deathmatch-style, then outlands deaths should be no-refund nlr by default unless the situation clearly dictates pk (for example, non-ota pvp)

Willard simply doesn't have enough players to have both outlands and city RP, and City RP is the main focus of the server, outlands RP has only been done in an event (and it was really good, might want to do another one of those in the future)

The outlands shouldn't be safe at all, it should be more dangerous than the city. Dangerous freedom or peaceful slavery and all that

I see there's overwhelming support for keeping everything city based!

I say we stay in the City and keep Outlands restricted for specific events or certain occasions.

This is City-Based RP where most of the citizens and Union-related factions are created and RPed in a City setting under the Combine's control. While Outlands can be fun for refugees and rebels that are out of the Combine's control, it will only kill off RP activity in the city as some of the rebels or citizens might permanently stay in the Outlands for good, never leaving unless they wish to for a specific mission or wanting to get something from the city such as recruits, items, etc.

I have seen dozens of this scenario happening time and time again from the HL2RP servers I have been in; Outland gets introduced, everything is fine at first, and then most refugees and rebels decide to turtle in the Outlands - Killing or making City RP really low in terms of activity. It's ill-advised to keep the Outlands (The one with a wide open forest and large stream in the middle) open at all times.

Open Outlands and the city dies. Its as simple as that.

All in all this is alright HOWEVER, I feel instead of OTA patrolling the outlands, OSF should do it instead. They have literally nothing to do and it would be cool to have them do patrols and to fight with rebels, I also feel some actions done towards entering and leaving the outlands are kind of harsh, especially the turrets that were placed at the outlands teleporter. The outlands however should not be 100% safe and communities should have to fight as hard as they can to survive in the outlands.

I went to the outlands on my main character after being ambushed by three citizens wanting to rob me of everything and throw me into the acid pit. Barely got away with it. I ended up running into a hunter with another guy behind me and the Overwatch also gave chase trying to kill us in the outlands shortly afterwards. We got out of there by leg-tailing it and they were hot on our tail.

That was some of the most fun moments I've had on the map thus far and that was just by exploring. I'm generally, and fairly certain we're not going to change the danger level unless various criteria are met because the player agency involved is what made that so organically intriguing and fun. Serious HL2RP is a challenge for citizens and outlands shouldn't be a walk in the park IMO.

We will expand on the outlands area as an event sandbox region by opening it up and closing it again by focusing back to the city, rinse and repeat. Though we want to focus on the city first, and keep it stabilised. Vorts can spawn in the outlands now, though.

Wanting outlands as a communal region very early is committing server suicide, and we're yet to open up even MORE of the map in the city zone over a period of relative time. Humour us on the wait, because there's more to do over the coming days and weeks included. We're listening to all feedback, keep it coming.

OSF patrolling outlands is not a good idea right now, because like I said to What: Three Combine factions running and gunning heavily armed is a tripartite critical imbalance. Not only that but OSF in outlands doing jack-shit just eats at the City population making it less crowded, more boring, making people leave the server because they're bored. They've been upped to event faction for convoys and such, but even then it's a bit of a pipe dream when they don't arrive to do them.
