The Orinoco Oil Belt (GPD.Z-32)
(Mapping For Everything)
The Orinoco Oil Belt (OOB), GPD.Z-32, is a Geo-Prospecting Bureau-operated zone located in the southern strip of the eastern Orinoco River Basin. An approximate of some three billion barrels of oil, the world’s largest oil reserve known on Earth, is chiefly located in Venezuela’s Orinoco Belt. Not surprisingly, the OOB is also home to the world’s largest petroleum extraction operation on the planet. Miles upon miles upon ever more miles of pipelines can be found transporting oil from oil extraction plants and drills to large-scale oil refining infrastructure, with the end-products are then loaded onto massive transports for shipping to different cities' industrial and energy zones. The ever-increasing demand for oil and its byproducts are forcing the hands of the Combine to keep expanding the rate of extraction and refining to new heights. The once lush and beautiful jungle of the Orinoco region is no longer as all of it has been clearcut by the Combine for land clearance and timber. Coupled with the burning of oil for energy, the whole of GPD.Z-32 is now an industrial hellhole of smoke, smog, and oil.
The industrial processes are largely automated with stalkers filling in to do any of the manual labor required. A surveillance network and light automated defense systems provide most of the security needed for GPD.Z-32. In case of a more serious event, a dozen or so fireteams of Transhumanist soldiers are also stationed here (normally hovering around forty-eight to fifty-six soldiers at any time for the whole zone).
One final aspect of note is that of transporting all the oil-based products produced here. The Orinoco Supply & Distribution Centre (O-SDC) acts as the primary port for the whole of the Orinoco Oil Belt. Any major exports or imports done have to go through this port. Both the O-SDC and OOB are connected by long stretches of transport infrastructure. Any liquid-related items (gasoline, diesel fuel, lubricates, etc) are simply piped across the vast distance by multiple pipelines. Any solid items (solid fuels, plastics, waxes, etc) are moved by multiple train lines. At any given time, ten razor trains can be seen always transporting various goods back and forth, and anywhere from one hundred to two one hundred freight cars are normally attached to each razor train. Aside from the active trains, another ten can be always found in storage to replace any damaged train that needs to be maintained in the meanwhile.
