A rugged militia of men and women, once thought to have been formed before the Combine occupation in the Appalachian region, being led by a Vietnam war vet with anarchistic, socialist and anti-government sentiments. At the start they didn’t win the hearts of the people due to rumours of their pro-Socialist attitude and hearsay of devil worship and pagan rituals.

On the fateful day the Xenians invaded is when they made their mark with a fruitful fight, finally winning the hearts of the mountain folk; At the height of the invasion, people from all walks of life joined up in The Rangers with the youngest members being around fifteen years old. With the new blood, the blood of their numbers spilled as the Xenian creatures began to intensify, until the Combine arrived - That’s the supposed end of the militia.

There are now rumours of an anonymous upstart citizen that goes by the name of ‘Commander Kilgore’ that is campaigning a relic of the old world to bring back the old world.
