From City 30: The Scott Carty Show, starring Scott Carty!

FLASH!

The cameras around him whirred to life in one big burst. A mile of red carpet, rolled out for him down the steps of the train station. The crowds, oh the crowds, they hollered and heaved at his presence, tugging at his tuxedo, shoving photos to be autographed in his face. Scott Carty was home. And they loved it.

BANG!‎

Streamers and confetti flew in the air as he waved to the crowd. Stepping up to the podium, the applause was deafening. "SCOTT! SCOTT! SCOTT!", they chanted, their middle-class messiah having blessed them with his presence. And when he finally opened his mouth, he proclaimed, through gloated smirks: "Well folks, Scotty's back!"

STOP!‎

The reflection in the mirror stared back, despondent. The cheers of the crowd, now mere delusive whispers, got replaced by the steady clank-clank of train tracks. He grasped at his "tuxedo", that same damned denim-cardboard jumpsuit he was shoved into at age 46, his breathing shallow. He ran a hand through the silvery greys of his hair, hardly recognizing himself.

Who was this beast in the mirror? Certainly not the Scott he knew. Scott Carty was an icon. A maverick. The paragon of suburban individualism. The man on the radio. Was that ever true? Not since a very long time. Now look at him. Deported. Re-cast. Exiled. He was so weak it made him sick. "Scott" stumbled out of the bathroom, unsure how to stand on his own two feet. His face planted itself vertical along the window of the train car. There, he saw it. Sprawling industries. Residential and commercial buildings, erected with little care and connected with no rhyme or reason. An apathetic populace. Extremism. Rot and moral decay. The troubles of modernity. The world, he thought, still had a place for him after all. There were always more listeners, always people who will tune in. He had reinvented himself once before. He could do it again. Put on a smile, Scott. Face the cameras. And walk out into the world. Tape's rolling.

Whoops!
Would'ja look at that, seems like we got so caught up in pre-production, that we haven't even
found out who'll be part of our show yet! But if we meet each other, feel free to

ask to be added to the hall of fame. Mr. Carty told me he's got a lot
he'd like to say about you. You wanna be on TV too, don'tcha?
