:: THE SUPPRESSION FIELD ::​

The Suppression Field is a low-energy resonance field which is set up in the global Citadel. For the laymen, it's effectively
a broadcast tower which broadcasts at an extremely low energy frequency. Amplified by supporting towers located in strategic locations around the globe, waves that would usually be impossible to propagate for significant distances are able to travel across the entire planet, effectively covering the globe in the Suppression Field. Additionally, each sector Citadel acts as a "relay point", further boosting the travel distance. Without proper assistance from the supporting towers and the sector Citadels, the Suppression Field becomes useless. However, redundancies were intentionally planned in the creation of supporting towers and in the placement of Citadels, meaning that one outage in a supporting tower or sector Citadel will not result in a complete failure of the suppression machine. However, even with the supporting towers and sector Citadels, there are still 'dead spots' located in various remote locations. While never losing 100% signal, there are sections of the globe in which fertilization is possible, albeit at an incredibly reduced rate. However, should at any point an embryo enter a sufficiently powerful portion of the Suppression Field, cell division would cease inside the womb, terminating the pregnancy and resulting in a stillborn.

The field, while (almost) harmless to humans and inconsequential to non-mammals, disrupts both the fertilization process and embryonic mitosis, preventing any form of reproduction while inside the Suppression Field. The Suppression Field will prevent an ovum's follicular cells from bonding to a sperm cell by disrupting receptor cells in the ovum's phospholipid wall, preventing the dissolution of the outer walls of the ovum, and thereby preventing fertilization of the cells. Moreover, the Suppression Field has the ability to disrupt the replication of cells by broadcasting a slightly different frequency 30 degrees out of phase with the main broadcast. The moment a pregnant mammal reenters a the 'supported' Suppression Field, embryonic growth will cease, and termination of the pregnancy will occur within 36 hours, depending on the time at which the pregnancy was ended. Necrosis will occur within the uterus, and more often than not, result in the death of the mother. Working on a similar basis, this secondary frequency will interrupt the metabolic pathways of mitosis, resulting in slowed mitosis in fully-grown mammals, and compleately ceased replication of the embryo.

An unfortunate consequence of the lessened replication of cells is a weakened immune response within all mammals across the globe, however this is mitigated via the introduction of various antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals into UU-food, as well as standard vaccinations given to each member of the Union. This means that those outside of the purview of the Union do not recieve medical care, and will suffer much greater than those who are given proper preemptive care.

Sure, you can host the government institutions in C24 for a few months or even have Breen go on a weekend vacation off in C51 but at the end of the day the single most important pillar of the Combine Regime is always going to be based in C17 and that is the Suppression Field. This almost makes me want to produce an article/thesis on the criticality of the Global Citadel.

Anyway (as strange as this sounds), I also wanted to ask how this would this affect vortigaunt reproduction (which is nothing like human reproduction according to the megathread) if it only focuses on the biological aspects of humans?

The question I was asking was in reference to this lore submission in regards to the fact that it focuses entirely on how it prevents human reproduction via means of a low-energy resonance field explicitly designed to prevent fertilization. However, since the reproduction of a vortigaunt is entirely different then a human: how does the suppression field as per this particular submission prevent it?

Is there a separate suppression field that is used to prevent the reproduction of Xenian Lifeforms (with the expection of Antlions)?

I'd say the field works on both humans and xenians, minus antlions

they both restrict dna merging together which is how vortigaunts create other vortigaunts, so in this case
