Name of the Admin you were banned by: Robert
How long is the ban for?: 3 months
The reason you were banned?: Part of the mass ban, "Mass/Excessive chip looping & malicious group behavior"
Why do you wish to be unbanned?:
I was banned for 3 months, lumped in with the other "abusers" of this "bug". The banning admins story is..
~20 people, A STAFF INCLUDED, many not affiliated with one another, banded together to pull a fast one over the admins, farm chips to get a massive stock pile, fuck over the other rebels/sewer dwellers, and act in a malicious context to hurt the server? That is your story? This is what I've gathered from speaking in the discord.
I did what is being said. I assumed that the RPG server had systems to allow people to make chips. On C24, I farmed for materials all night, selling my extras to get enough chips to buy a popper and some ammo. Took me probably a week or two to gather that many chips. This was fine, many people did this. Nobody cared about that, I suppose because it was not a 'loop'. However, this worked for me as my IC goals matched what I had. A popper and some ammo, armor etc.
Once we got to I24, I joined up with a character who wanted to make a charity group, make a settlement and help extract people there, hand out food and medical supplies, stuff like that. Okay.. I'm going to fight in the outlands, I will need a rifle, and will need to supply my group members with things. So I needed chips faster, and worked out a system that allowed me to utilize some of those materials I farmed for to make profit. Considering it occurred for.. months? For dozens of people? I figured it was allowed, because it's not an exploit. It's a system in the server that I've utilized before, I'm just using the new resources I can now afford to do the same thing, and make a SLIGHTLY HIGHER PROFIT MARGIN. (Not 250% off of each sale). I didn't sell blood bags or steel, in fact I didn't even know what the profit margins were on these items, because bandages were not that much profit. If I knew what the margins were for blood bags, I probably would've said something, tbh.
So, considering the humanitarian nature of my small group, we would need bandages. So I made disinfected bandages, selling a decent amount of them as our group was quite small. Got enough chips to buy a rifle (Lost them all due to an OOC thing, unrelated, 2 month break), then made back the chips when I returned in part to buy another gun when the BMDs returned. In total I probably made 10k off of this process, over the span of multiple months, maybe 3 weeks of active play time. In that span, I did NOT gain ANYTHING from the chips I made. When I came back, I made a bunch of bandages, gave most them to my group, sold a few extras, and kept the materials I had in case we needed them. I sat on these chips for when our group needed them.
Many of my group members did a similar process, some 30 odd people in total, many not affiliated with my group at all, did this. I will not make an official statement in this post saying I know for 100% fact that none of them were malicious, but.. read the statement in beige above. That seems a little ridiculous, doesn't it?
I simply made profit off of an oversight, assuming it was allowed considering the circumstances, and played the server. I am willing to take a verbal warning, have my chips removed, and told "don't do it again, or you'll be banned. We apologize that we made this mistake, but it's an exploit." I am not willing to sit here, be accused of malicious behavior, and banned for 3 months; An equal ban to someone who did 20x what I did. I might even be okay with sitting on a week ban if you want to make a point, but this is insane.
I DID NOT mass or excessively loop chips. I did not participate in malicious behavior. This was a mistake made, and I will assume some responsibility, but not all of it. In the future, I will ensure to be more aware of the gameplay loops and what is too much/suspicious and do my best to ensure that I inform staff in the future, however..
I'd also like to ask how not a single admin was able to find out about an 'exploit' of this caliber over a span of ~3-4 months. Even if this was a massive group exploit, which it wasn't, how did it take you guys this long to find out? Especially considering the consistent log reviews I've seen staff do?
I'm genuinely curious about this as well.. if we can't utilize the systems put in place for us to make chips (however unintentional) how do the rebels.. do anything? Sell trash all day? Get 1k chips (barely profit if any at all, considering ammo) from bi monthly jobs? Like okay you removed the 'exploit', the rebel economy now crashes in the opposite end of the spectrum? Because nobody has ANY chips, rather than too many? Or was the profit margin TOO high, and that was the transgression? I was not getting any answers in discord so perhaps this may help me understand exactly the problem. And I do apologize for any aggression, but I am quite annoyed at this situation so I believe it is somewhat warranted.
