Thoughts on Fallout TV Show?

I've only watched the first episode, but I can say I'm enjoying it so far. I hope the rest of the series won't be consumed by this equality ideology.

It’s a perfect video game show. When I first heard of Fallout being turned into a show I was worried that like other video game shows/movies, they’d explain every detail to the viewer just in case they didn’t know, or wasn’t aware of the games existence. Caps being the main currency, creatures in the wasteland, cooper being a ghoul, vault-tec, the enclave, are all things I expected to see overly explained by the show, but no. I was delighted to find out that the show itself didn’t really explain anything in regards to the world, and it was left to the viewer to experience it, I mean, we all know what a ghoul is, we all know why caps are used.

I found Maximus’s actor to be the highlight of the show for me, with the ghoul just in second place. Lucy was probably one of the least interesting character for me, that’s not to say I hated her but she definitely failed to impress me when compared to Maximus and the ghoul.

My only gripes with the show is we didn’t get to see more of Michael Emerson’s character more often, the enclave researcher. Though I am biased as I do love the enclave.

Overall a pretty good show, it definitely not gonna blow you away but if you’re a fallout fan you should definitely give it a watch. I do look forward to season 2.

Still a good show though, 10/10 but-

As one Youtube comment put it:
"I can't believe they nuked my favourite faction because of a Marital Dispute."

the show has reignited the war between new vegas fanboys and bethesda fanboys

12/10

As a huge fan of the original Interplay Fallout games and New Vegas, I really enjoyed the show.

Solid 7 out of 10.

The show was generally good but made some major missteps.

The editing of Episode one was truly bad, and luckily it improved as the show went on. Some moments were a bit stupid, possibly intended as jokes, but just came off as misfires (The most pressing example would be the old man getting shot at with the turret)

A more major mistake would be the macro lore the show gets wrong. Some positions on the world map are almost completely swapped or misaligned altogether. Plus, I can only hope the NCR is not actually gone, even for the most part, as the West being a developed civilization is what makes it an interesting location within the world. It would be a major misfire to randomly transform it into an east coast equivalent.

The largest issue I can think of was the theme of the show being a total misfire though, which was the idea of 'nobody being the good guy'. Everyone does bad things, and similar to how many view New Vegas, even the most morally dubious factions can stake their claim towards righteousness through adaptation or justified ends. In this show however, NCR are (perhaps by accident) portrayed as essentially the absolute good guys, whos only crime is attacking the people who nuked an entire city of civilians from their perspective. Otherwise, all they want to do through the show is seemingly get the code in order to activate the fusion rod and make life better for everyone. Meanwhile BOS are a bunch of maniacal drones, acting like power-armored raiders (even by their usual standards). Vault-Tec has, perhaps not wisely, been upgraded to the series absolute antagonist, so no reason to expand there.

So it got really awkward when they tried to stick with the 'Nobody is truly right' in the same scene the NCR was effectively proving themselves to be entirely justified within the show. If you did not play the games, the NCR would be lawful good protagonists. Speaking of, I also think they dove too hard onto general wastelanders being insufferable. In most Fallout games, people in civilized areas are not awful people by default.

They also played too many classical songs, too often.

Aside from all that, effects were generally good, editing improved greatly as the show went on. Story, while flawed, mustered to actually not decimate the lore in totality (Although this could easily change) leaving me actively watching through, and even looking forward to finishing it towards the end. It payed good homage to the games and managed to have humor which generally hit its mark, at least somewhat. If they play their cards right, S2 could be something truly great imo. This was good, but it didn't blow me away or anything.

9/10

As Fallout fan, I can say that they did good job on bringing the wasteland out of the games to reality, especially the clothing of wastelanders, professions such as sketchy doctor or tech repair, how settlements look like and different locations through out.

I really like how they designed the Vaults and didn't sugarcoated how some Vaults were fine, and other ones were nightmare for anyone who were assigned a spot in them.

[np: Vault 4]

However I have a small grudge when it comes to how NCR so far been handled. There were no mentions on how rest of NCR Territory reacted towards their capital being nuked.

No mentions of chaos that overtook their territories and settlements, riots that must had taken place when the news had reached.

I kinda refuse to believe that entirely of NCR just outright vanished and their territories just became pure wasteland and only remnants of them are in Vault 4 and at the Observatory.

I just remember seeing some interview with the writers and they said the main reason they crippled the NCR was because they wanted to have it be a Western, and Westerns never have civilization.

bethesda is unable to depict fallout without it just being small sects of raiders living in mud huts or scrap towns so they turned the strongest faction into small sects of raiders living in mud huts or scrap towns

I don't care for maximus.

the ghoul is the best character so far.

rooting for thaddeus.

Lucy is meh sometimes really a hit other times a miss mostly decent tho.

#GetFuckedNCR. Legion gang on top.

Would've liked to see more in-universe guns and what not instead of old ww2 guns (Why was the sterling so prolific use the thompson.)

I watched it with my friends, I think its fucking terrible
I hate the "marvel quips" that the characters do, I hate the designs, the plotlines are stupid, the ghoul is passable (though their voice is just a normal dude) but the power armour looks outright terrible.
They blew all their budget on the shitty ass plastic vault and the first-episode sex scene. Oh and the depiction of Enclave is misguided too, they look like the most boring grunts residing in a fucking Eastern European abandoned industrial complex. We decided to stop watching this show after a few episodes because of how insufferable and boring it is

The ghoul might be a "good character" but frankly, I don't think anyone should give a shit about that pre-war plotline either, its boring

I don't get why people like it so much, if that's the standard of what "game-inspired TV shows" are, I think its best if they don't bother making any new ones

I heard how they handled the NCR too but frankly, I think its a terrible show regardless of the lore fuckery they are committing, it should be the least of a viewer's concerns

TLDR: Its an uninspired show that have somehow appealed to the fans

Was ass, brought back shitty factions like enclave and ncr instead of giving the entire spotlight to the railroad

fuck this show, nobody cares about the BoS, NCR, Enclave or Vault tec. They should have focused on the republic of dave
