A research Facility in South America, 2009. Exact location unknown, even to most of the facility members. What happens here will send echo's throughout the Americas and even the world, but no one knows that yet.

"Prepare for Unforeseen Consequences, Ha.... The last time I heard those words were back at Black Mesa"

You are here because you are some of the best surviving minds of the Earth. (Though there is certainly disagreement within the departments as to the validity of that statement.) Sent to a bunker somewhere in South America to complete research under the guidance of the "Department Heads". You've been promised a better quality of life should your time here bear fruit and for the most part people believe it. People have been known to come and go if they meet their quotas. The question is however, how far will you go to meet them?

INFORMATION
-This event is taking place on the 17th through 19th of October, 7PM Start BST

-You can choose from the 3 Departments of the Research Base. Physics, Biochemistry and Weapon Development.

-While a mainly passive event there will be strict a PK policy, as with all Road to Dark Interval Events

SIGN-UPS

-The chance of us accepting a application drastically goes up with effort put into the application, though this doesn't mean we want as many words as possible.

-While Research projects will be provided, adding your own in the application may lead to you heading your own personal project, though you may not have all the resources you want.

-These characters will be part of the Research Faction which itself will have a continuous narrative and multiple events in the run up to Dark Interval, you can have multiple characters in multiple factions

Researchers

Department Heads (x/3)
Only 3 Department Heads are located in this facility and they don't always get along. No higher power on site.

Senior Researchers (x/6)
Those more experienced Researchers with more sway and power

Junior Researchers(x/12)
Perhaps unexperienced or perhaps slighted by their superiors.

CHARACTER FORMAT

The * symbol represents a required filling, below.
Please DO NOT put your answers in bold, as to make the entry easier to read. Failure to do so will only result in me angrily staring at you from across the screen.

  • Character Name: Nicholas Beam
  • Character Role: Jr. Researcher of Physics

  • Brief summary of the character: Nicholas worked in an European lab over in City-13, alongside his mentor Dr. Henry Valette. A French Quantum Scientist. They both worked on the idea of Quantum research. Including the theoretical of Quantum Entanglement. After an accident which unfortunately left Nicholas alone, he was found by a group of people with the aspect of living a better life if they were to continue in Dr. Valette's footsteps and meeting a supposed quota. He agreed with the idea of finishing what he and his mentor started. He carries a Dictaphone with him and mumbles to himself while engrossed in his work. Which could be sometimes off-putting in a critical situation.

  • Why do you want to play this character?: I've wanted to give a proper research character a go primarily because I've been intrigued on what I as a player could Roleplay out as someone who would want to push themselves to the to the benefit of humanity alongside himself. The character would aim to have a few quirks, like talking to himself and holding onto a Dictaphone which contained research notes from Dr. Valette, which my character would aim to use for a sense of "Guidance".

  • Tell us about yourself: I'm a man of roleplay, I tend to play alot of characters, I would say RP as a whole got me into stuff like DnD. I aim to bring a good quality of roleplay wherever possible. And by being able to join would allow me to also improve it by trying some new aspects of roleplay, like some new interesting roleplay concepts I don't normally aim to utilise.

  • Are you new to Willard Networks?: I've been around Willard properly since August this year, and have became fond of the server. I however, have played a fair few serious roleplay servers over my time of Garry's Mod from 2016

  • Are you familiar with anyone around Willard Networks?: I would say I'm familiar with the community and it's people, allowing for myself to get integrated fully. I primarily interact with Loyalists but do act with common citizens and that area of the community.

  • What's your favorite thing about Half Life?: I'd say the world building is a huge thing for me. And the ambiguity of a lot of information, like other areas of the world, other parts of citizens. Allows for a lot of things to be desired by the community.
P.S I do have a char backstory in mind, just not fully fledged out at this current moment. I will likely not include it as it wouldn't contain any potential useful info for GMs, unless they wish for me to play a certain area of RP.

Thanks! :D

  • *Character Name: Pr. Raheem al-Rashidi
  • *Character Role: Department Head

  • *Brief summary of the character: Rigorous and methodical scientist born in Baghdad in 1945, Raheem al-Rashidi has always devoted his life to science with remarkable ingenuity and determination. His stubborn spirit and high personal standards fuel every project he supervises, as the former mastermind of the military innovation program under Saddam Hussein's regime. He is a rather stubborn and irritable guy, a cantankerous and bitter old man who never hesitates to speak his mind. Despite this temperament, Raheem maintains a discreet respect for his colleagues, whom he considers trustworthy. He remains available to those who share his commitment while maintaining his standards and principles.

  • *Why do you want to play this character?: I want to play this character because he perfectly embodies what I call a “tension creator.” I particularly appreciate this type of character with a strong personality, capable of bringing dynamic and provocative role-playing that enriches interactions once in the game. Beyond his temperament, he makes roleplay more lively and push the plot by adopting a somewhat directive approach. The fact that his history and former affiliations may be controversial gives him added depth, naturally generating tension in the game.
  • Full Backstory:
Raheem Farouk al-Rashidi was born in 1945 in Baghdad in a middle-class family. His father, Farouk, was a high school teacher in the city, and his mother, Samira, was the daughter of a civil servant. From a very young age, Raheem grew up in an environment where discipline and intellectual rigor were central to his education. His parents ensured that he received a rigorous education, often at home, with the help of tutors and his father, who stimulated his curiosity and interest in science.

During his childhood, Raheem developed a passion for applied sciences, particularly mathematics. After excelling in high school, he enrolled at the University of Baghdad in 1963 to study mechanical engineering, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1967. Noticed for his diligence and skills, he then pursued a master's degree, which led him to spend several years in the Soviet Union, where he furthered his knowledge of engineering. From 1971 to 1975, he completed a doctorate on the resistance of materials in industry and military technologies, which earned him international recognition as an expert.

Upon his return to Iraq, Raheem was quickly integrated into the new state laboratories and scientific programs of the Baath Party created by Saddam following the 1979 purge. His skills and experience enabled him to climb the ranks and supervise sensitive projects related to weapons development. In the 1980s and 1990s, he became a pillar of government teams, leading projects and mentoring young engineers. His discipline and sometimes irritating tone made him a difficult supervisor to accept.

After the Seven Hour War in 2004 and the collapse of the Baath Party, Raheem quickly adapted to the Union's new dominance by keeping Saddam as administrator of City 15. Becoming a high-ranking collaborator in the city thanks to his expertise and his connections with the former dictator, Raheem retained his role and took the helm of a scientific oversight committee before fleeing a few years later following the fall of City 15. He survived the infamous “Culling” before being secretly transferred to South America to take part in the oversight of a large-scale secret project alongside the greatest scientists still alive.

  • Tell us about yourself: I have been an experienced roleplayer for several years now, playing on almost every type of platform from Garry's Mod to Discord to RedM. I have always been interested in roleplay because it has always allowed me to express my imagination by creating interesting characters and scenarios that I could experience with other people in universe that i like (SCP and Half Life mostly). I have been a moderator on several servers, including the French server Echo-One, where I was able to earn a place on the moderation team. I have always enjoyed playing scientists because i think, they represent creativity and imagination. They are the characters with whom I innovate the most.

  • Are you new to Willard Networks?: I'm no stranger to the server, even though I only discovered it a few months ago. I mainly played on the French server, where I am a moderator and, more recently, OOC lead of the CMRU.

  • Are you familiar with anyone around Willard Networks?: I am familiar with many people, particularly in the medical and scientific fields (S.R.I., CWU), and loyalist Roleplay (through my main character Raymond de Linzac).

  • What's your favorite thing about Half Life?: It may seem paradoxical, but what I really like about the Half-Life universe is that it is incomplete yet immersive enough to be open to interpretation and creativity, allowing everyone to contribute their own vision of the lore and innovate to the point where they can have a real impact on the overall lore.
PS: I would like to know if it is possible for my character to speak Arabic and Russian, given the time he spent in the USSR during his studies, thanks for reading !

Character Name: Professor Rufus Niles Morrison
Character Role: Department Head
Brief summary of the character: A man who pushed the surly bonds of science and discovered why so-often those bonds exist, for unfettered ambition is the truest toxin of great men.
Why do you want to play this character?: Scientific roleplay's always been of-interest; my original Willard character was a scientist after all, and though I never ended up playing for an extended duration with them it fits a particular niche of roleplay and writing that I keep getting dragged in to.

It's a mix of the general mundane whose details I love injecting directly in to my bloodstream (there's a reason I was very sad the Sector Economic Forum never got a Day 2), and the fantastical possibilities that lets those details really shine through. Mundane information with exceptional context is the kind of thing I just eat up.

Full Backstory:

Come now, Rufus, this is not the kind of arrangement you can be so blasé in refusing!
Yes it, in fact, is. Whatever arguments Wallace raised in discussion with his superiors to acquire this state of affairs is no business of mine!
For god's sake man, damn the Combine, here- think of the scientific boundaries to be crossed! We broke new ground with the Borderworld, developed technologies the world outside our doors could not dream of. Damnit, even the Lambda Reactor, though merely a pressurised water reactor, laid the foundation for the third generation of such designs! The Dam reservoir, the river drains, it-
This is not merely a matter of science here, it-
You contest as if the Combine have some- some- some grand design! Their work is, for all intents and purposes, accomplished, Rufus; you can see that out the damned window.
Oh I can see outside far clearer than I believe you can.
And yet you hold yourself to the bindings we had back in Black Mesa, as if the US government were-
Are we comparing Bill Clinton to the Combine? Christ sakes, I thought you were a Democrat!
So- mmgh...
... I am- quite sorry. Things have not been too-grand, as I'm sure you can imagine.
Y- Yes, yes, I can quite believe. Wallace is... eager to gather us kinds back together, you know. Some manner of... e- eh, education system or the like he's trying to get set up.
You imply we are particularly grand teachers, Eutalio- we're men of science. 'Those who cannot do, teach.'
Well, I'm quite afraid to say that there aren't too-many teachers around, nowadays. I myself am being taken to one of those 'urban centres' that are being set up- you remember George Olson, yes?
Yes- one of Wallace's more... financial friends- yes, I remember him.
Some manner of- unity government, he's now got set up in Washington. Wants me there to help set up some varietal of... well- an education system. Apparently some others are already in the works, and he's not keen to get left behind in it.
And where am I fitting in to such a model, Eutalio?
A request from Wallace, himself- some of us are required to help get the young ones up to snuff, and the others... need to prove that us lot still have a place, in all this.
And does 'us lot' mean mankind or the scientific community.
Something tells me it may be both, Morrison. Got to prove worth in many, many ways here.
- give me the damn PDA. What are the terms being offered, exactly?
They aren't Black Mesa's employee benefits, I'll be honest, but...
But compared to current standards, they're quite exceptional.
Indeed- yes. I would consider them as-such.
Mgh... and when would my transportation be arriving, exactly?
Now, if-so willing.
I would not quite call myself willing.
No. I imagine you would not. Better yourself though, no?
Be seeing you around, Eutalio.

Tell us about yourself: Some manner of creature some find enjoyable.
Are you new to Willard Networks?: Not particularly, compared to plenty, but pretty new compared to some. Only around nine months.
Are you familiar with anyone around Willard Networks?: Yep. Played lots of different factions, so know lots of people for lots of reasons.
What's your favorite thing about Half Life?: The implicit work that goes in to lots of what the Combine do. The massive logistics chain that has to exist, the collaborating human scientists to align their technology to mankind. So much implied, but so mundane that to try and elaborate on it would be... probably not very interesting to a lot of people.

  • *Character Name: José Rossi de Vasconcelos
  • *Character Role: Junior Researcher of biochemistry
  • *Brief summary of the character: Life has been rough on this one, yet he is still on his feet. He wonders if he will keep up for much longer, but he continues with his courage, curiosity and eagerness for life. Even so, some kind of fragility is hidden inside.
  • *Why do you want to play this character?: I like events and want to experience new types of roleplay. Thats it.
  • Full Backstory:
17th day of january of the year 1978, José is born in a maternity hospital on the outskirts of the metropolitan region of São Paulo. He was born to a poor family and throughout his earlier life, he lived in a small house in a favela.
He is a naturally born learner and always had a curiosity inside for all types of subjects. He was so curious infact, that when he was a child, he walked 6 Kilometers everyday to the communal library just so he could satiate his own questions to the world.
Even with the hardship of poverty, his family was always supportive, and thats what kept him going through his life. He graduated from a public technic highschool with a course of chemistry, and then managed to pass the exams to enter the University of São Paulo in the course of biology.
During his academic life, he was always seen as an outcast because of his poor living condition. At the time, it was odd for anyone not rich to be able to go to a university, let alone the best one of brazil.
After finishing university, he worked for a few years in a biology related firm. Then came the resonance cascade. There isnt any records of what he has done afterwards.
