Perma-Kill Policy
This is currently undergoing a small rewrite/rewording to ensure format is easy to understand and consistent per feedback received via our recent survey.
Definitions
PK (Perma-kill): A full death involving the complete end of a character and considered dead. No longer playable in the world.
Narrative Death: A full death akin to a PK, but resulted from a planned/developed storyline in which death was deliberate.
NLR (New-Life Rule): Can keep playing your character, but events leading up to death are forgotten.
No Refund: Links with NLR, but keeps the gear & skill loss suffered by death without any recourse.
Shot Cop: The killing of Civil Protection or Combine personnel without a clear roleplay motive or objective. This includes killing units simply to lower garrison numbers, provoke violence without a planned goal, or to acquire their gear.
RDM (Random Deathmatch): Minge-like behavior where you engage in randomly killing or attacking an individual without cause nor reason.
Good Faith:
This simply means an act or death that falls in line with the server Rules, Policy and honest intent with respect to it serving the story rather than being a meaningless end to a character for the sake of ending it. This means any PK not following the above or involves OOC interference, disrespect, revenge motives, weak justification or any action undermining fair play will be voided.
PK Core Principle
When it comes to PKs, we want to ensure the process is short, sweet and simple with little to no paperwork required and to ensure that there is minimal or no appeals authorized in this system. Deaths when they occur should stick unless direct rule violations, major offences or other uncontrolled factors have contributed to ones death. This ensures consistent enforcement across the board and fairness for all.
To start, what by default can void or by default make PKs ineligible?
- Caused by a NPC or Event Character outside of story driven events (NPCs can cause a PK during scripted Events/Expeditions)
- Caused by any bug, glitch or exploit (Always refunded)
- Deaths caused by acts of Bad faith OR You had no part or cause of action that could have led to your death (Shotcopping and RDM counts under "bad faith")
- Caused by unfounded suspicions, lack of evidence, minor grievances, etc.
Essentially any death that you had no part in causing, had no part in building up or generally had no knowledge of is considered NLR. This even goes for acts of being framed/targeted or even acts of Combine Sweeps and Cleanup operations. The maximum punishment is No refunds in some cases.
As for the baseline triggers for a PK are; there is a few things to consider. Though do NOTE that meeting any one of these doesn't automatically put you in our PK categories, please read "PK Triggers" & "High-Risk Triggers" to find out more.
- Your character is of Event status or is a important official for a faction (See High-Risk section)
- You have decided to commit suicide or an act of sacrifice
- You have made a conscious, deliberate choice that leads to your death
- * You have directly harmed an individual or character *
- * You have built up some narrative or story for sometime that logically leads to your characters death *
- * You have committed a crime or multiple crimes warranting amputation *
- * Your death MUST contribute to / advance the story of the current series of events *
- * OR your death serves to advance the RP of others, not just to remove the character *
NOTE: As mentioned, we wish to reduce the paperwork involved for PKs. We ask if you are accepting death, you can run a /TBD command which will auto-pk you without Staff. Or if killing another, please contact Staff ingame via a ticket. You do not need to wait for the staff to arrive, carry out your combat, RP and vice versa and staff will verify the PK after the fact. However, if you plan on killing someone in advance and don't wish for delay- we advise the "PK Request" section to be used for fast & quick PKs.
PK Triggers (Standard):
This section will cover what actually can trigger a PK and provide clear pointers for how death works in Willard Networks while you play. It is important to understand that V3 heavily discourages appeals given no rules were broken and the death was relatively fair (in line with policy). It is highly unlikely for us to void PKs without the core principles being violated.
Regardless of whether you are in Combat or not, ALL of the following are VALID PK authorizations per the core principles:
- You have committed an act of sacrifice or suicide.
- You made a decision / taken a deliberate action that led to your own death
- You have caused direct harm to another individual or character
- You/Group/Faction has escalated a situation into the realms of combative nature
On terms of Narrative deaths, slightly different than the regular ones where you may have not committed a direct action yourself, but have partaken in something that may lead to such an outcome include:
- Partaking in any Event driven or Player narrative/story that could pose risk and by engaging with it, you have taken on that risk willingly.
- This can include betrayal, political/factional politics, organized sabotage, lethal hostility or exposing sensitive/classified information
- Your character is a criminal and has committed enough offences to be amputated for your actions.
- Granted: This does require the executors to have that evidence
- There has been clear escalation over time through documented roleplay
- The response of the punishment is proportional to the severity of the actions taken.
PK Triggers (High-Risk):
When playing a high risk character like a CCA official, high ranking unit of other form of "important position" or even "Event character", the following PK policy applies to you as an EXTENSION of the standard:
- Event characters on death, as long as RP and reasoning was present, will be PK'd without question.
- Administration, Rank Leaders, Director level positions are by default constantly on taking on decisions that may threaten their lives. This means they can be PK'd for various instances including:
- Taking a stroll without protection nor escort (Advice: If corrupt, take escort and leave them outside the front door when needed of a building)
- Getting killed by another faction or member who made wish to "Usurp" your position
- Failing to fulfil duty and then executed (being inactive for a long time will count towards a auto-pk)
Examples
The following examples will help clarify on the ideas presented:
Example #1:
You are a Unit who has just entered the slums side of the City and performing your regular patrol. You spot a Rebel in full gear or maybe just has some Kevlar or possibly gun in hand and you decide to call in backup and surround the suspect and he is asked to face the wall and put the gun down...
In this case, the Rebel as committed an act of "Decision / taken a deliberate action that led to death" as per the policy and is thus marked down as PK. If the Rebel killed you instead, since you were doing your job, did not aggress and got shot and killed for it, that is an NLR for you.
Example #2:
