JOURNAL ENTRIES
I remember that faithful day like anyone else who's old enough to remember. May Two-Thousand-Four. I was on my way to work, stuck in traffic, when I heard a loud bang, followed by a momentarily blinding light. Once my eyes adjusted, I saw a blue portal in the sky. By that point, I stopped my car as the vehicles ahead of me were in a pileup due to the blinding light; there was no way I was able to go through. Then things started to pour out of it; I didn't know what they were first; however, they got bigger and bigger as they started to lay destruction in their path; cars started to blow up, people were vaporized, and buildings were destroyed. It was total destruction and death.
Whatever transe I was in, I snapped out of it, and I immediately ran down the highway, onto one of the off-ramps. During this time I had my Nokia in my pocket as I attempted to dial my father; the line went through, however, it was very garbled. The only thing I was able to get through was "I love you," and then the line went down. I continued running along with many other people as the city I was in was being destroyed. As the majority of us were running away, the military was running towards the threat.
Eventually I found myself within one of the subway stations, taking shelter as many other people did. I could hear the explosions and the vibrations that accompanied it. I was in there for a long time; many of us were scared and affraid. Then there was a point that everything went fuzzy; I do not quite remember what happened after.

From what I can recall, I remember becoming coherent while I was on a train; there were many others like me, tired, scared, and dirty from what transpired. I turned over towards a man who was sitting next to me. I asked if I could read that newspaper. As I started to read the title of the paper, my mouth dropped in shock.

I do not remember how long I was shocked; however, it seemed to be a long time. The man next to me had to shake me so I could come back into reality. He started to explain what was written on the paper while myself and many others carefully listened in to what he was saying. Some were crying, some were speechless.
During this whole ride, I thought of my family and wondered where they could be in these troubling times. I had hoped they were safe. I hoped that my father heard my voice for the last time as I was running on the street.
At some point, I fell asleep again and then woke up when the train came to a stop. We all exited the train as we were hearded like cattle by what looked to be the military; they were assuring us that everything was going to be fine; some were staying behind as they didn't know what to do. I had only the clothes on my back, so I proceeded to carry on. My picture was taken along with my fingerprints, and then a card was given to me, giving me an identification number as I was told to move towards the refugee camp
8 2 9 1 2

I remember the first city I was relocated to, City Eleven. I was in the refugee camp for about eight months, and I was happy to get out of there. The constant fighting and daily survival didn't help, not to mention the military garrison; the "Conscripts" weren't any good help either. I remember I was told to not go past the perimeter fence, as untold horrors lurked there.
Anyway, getting back to the topic, when I arrived there, we were processed in that subway station, and after once I left. I found a civil terminal and concluded my registration; afterwards, I was assigned to Residential Block One, Floor Three, Unit Two. I met some of my roommates; I forget their names, but they were funny guys.
The nexus was not built; however, the foundations were starting off; eventually, as time passed, I got used to the system. Workshifts, Rations, Sleep, Repeat.
Eventually there were some stores where I could use my hard-earned Tokens, remember those things, nifty little things, that still remind me of the old world.
I was in City Eleven for some time; I could not remember for the life of me for how long, but it was for quite some time.

To be continued.....
