<:: BACKSTORY ::>

-1982 to 1998-
The beginning. Perhaps the beginning to the end, depending on your outlook. Born to a regular family, her childhood wasn't anything more unique than the average man or woman. Pursuing normal interest, and perhaps some not so normal interest for a girl, such as sports, fishing and otherwise. Her father would take her to partake in fishing, but due struggling financially at the time, she was also taken to assist with other tasks, such as assorting supplies on the boat, moving lighter things. Nothing particularly amazing, but it helped her accrue an affinity for manual labor later in life. Her education was average, but she didn't show much of an interest in anything, but with the behest of her parents, performed well enough to graduate, and then was urged further to pursue a high-profile career. So, she picked what was closest to her - working with technology. She didn't really have a particular field in mind, just with technology, as the new arising innovations at the time had intrigued her.

-1998 to 2001-
After beginning her educational pursuits, she found that a similar problem had arisen. Despite her intrigue with current technologies, it just simply was not enough to warrant motivation to continue her studies. She lacked the drive to pursue it, so, despite the immense disappointment from her mother, and the understanding of her father, she returned home. Now, having become a drop-out, she opted to help her father with his fishing business, and that is where her affinity for manual labor was used. She found that such work was simpler and more endearing to her, something easier to pursue, something easier to understand. And that is where she worked with her father, eventually becoming independent as a dock worker, helping move supplies in and out of ships for transfer across sea. And that is pretty much how she lived her life, until..
-2001 to 2004-
During just another day, she turned on the television to discover news about an incident that had occurred somewhere within the USA. She didn't care at the time, it was somewhere considerably far away and out of her scope of concern, but then this incident became a global phenomenon. This had disastrous results on her work, not only because the police force closed civilian access to the dock, which prevented her from going to work, but also, her employer had to fire her because the fisherman population had been snuffed out due to the sea being wholly populated by an invasive species of some kind, which was devastating fishing yields and rapidly killing the existing species of fish within the region. Of course, she wasn't going to slow down there, immediately trying to apply to a myriad of places, and eventually landing as a shopkeeper at a small corner store near her home. It wasn't the kind of work she enjoyed, but she lived with it. Again, not for long. The weather phenomenon and invasive species had gotten so bad that mass evacuation had to be performed. But, Verdonna decided to instead to return to her father. However, found her home in shambles, under attack and occupation of various xen fauna and flora. She didn't let herself grieve, instead, her self-preservation drove her on, leading her to a place many went - the countryside. Going along with ragtag groups of survivors and marauders, she had picked up a few tricks regarding tinkering, and overall survival. What to do, what not to do. Where to go, where not to go. But her life was about to be changed majorly once again, when..
-2004 to Present-
...the combine had made themselves known. And oh did they. They washed over the earth like a tsunami, demolishing all resistance and attempts at fighting back. Even Verdonna herself was floored by how quickly they arrived and how much damage they caused. The amount of people they killed. She heard it all on the radio, whatever radio there was left. Until all went silent, and a single message of global surrender was broadcasted. At that point, her heart sunk to her stomach, as she had now realized that the world she lived in was now lost, bending the knee. She was angry, admittedly, but she was smarter than immediately trying to fight. After all, what could one dock worker, ragtag wanderer wannabe do? Nothing at all. Eventually, all surrounding populations were found and captured, or killed, depending on whether or not they resisted or not, and carted to the cities, as the outside began to be lost to the hostile invasive species of flora and fauna. That is where her life in the city she was born in began, now named City 13. In here, however, she used many of the tricks she had picked up from her time wandering the desolated wastelands that comprised the outside of the city with many others. Whatever she didn't get from rations, she got from scavenging, and what she got from scavenging, was familiarity with the many types of wildlife which was very keen on shortening her existence. Headcrabs, zombies, antlions. Much mischievious sewer-diving, dumpster-looting and alleyway exploring later, a transfer was due. As most people, she dreaded this, as she had gotten to know the people here, but she knew full well she didn't have a choice. Which then facilitated her transfer to City 57, then to 58, due to proximity, and lastly to 24. What will result of this one? Who knows.

'Rocket'
Haven't seen much or heard much from you so I cannot allow myself to either like or dislike you, but I've seen that you're with us, and that you're competent and know what you're doing, so I see no reason not to trust you. I only wish I could have fought with you more..but my own mistake cost me. Don't repeat mine.

Mr. Morales
You've shown yourself plenty capable and shown that you can be trusted. I can't speak on how much good you've done for the resistance thus far, but I can tell you've definitely done your part. I'd say more, but you've gone missing. So, until you turn around, this is where I stand. Well, you're back, and still kicking. Honestly, shouldn't have doubted that for a second, even if luck had a play in it.
You've done a lot..I can only hope you'll continue to. I wish I could have, but the dice roll didn't stick this time. I'm sorry.

'Mabre'
I've seen you around on many an occasion. You handle yourself well, you have a brain in your skull, you're fun to talk to, and you've helped me out plenty. I can only wait for the opportunity to return the favor.
Keep on trucking. I may not be here to help you but I hope what I did for all of you will stick.

Yulian
Good lad. Has a head on his shoulders, is generally a pretty positive guy. Definitely someone you want on your side.
I can only hope you'll pick up where I left off. Be better than me.

Konrad
Pretty good guy, a bit too good for his own good, I'd say, but you can never have too many good people among your merry band of hobos with guns. I see him offering to help out a lot whenever he can, so, I can see he's got his heart in the right place.
Be careful, be smart, and be vigilant.

Dooley, or 'D'
I didn't really get too much of a chance to get to know you, only see you around on occasion, but I know you were with Gus. And if you rolled with that tough fucker, I know you had to be a tough fucker yourself. I hope you can find peace.
Save me a seat on the train to hell, will ya? Or heaven. Who knows, really.

Gus, or 'Gypsy'
Shame I didn't get to attend your funeral when it happened to pay proper respects. I know that our only relative interactions were in regards to the deal you proposed when I recently arrived in 24. I was just skulking around the slums, and you approached me, making me the proposal, something to work for, a goalpost. I wish I could have gotten to know you more, and I hope you're finally resting wherever you ended up.
You may not have been able to give me that AK I wanted, but how about a beer when we catch up?

Lei
I didn't get to interact with you that much, but still I grew to respect you over time. The people around seemed to trust you and rely on you, so I had no reason not to trust you all the same.
Like the others, I'm sorry I couldn't stay fighting with you longer. Please, don't make the same mistakes I did, and warn others not to do them, either.

'Mantis Queen' or Mantis
Good woman, good medic and good friend. Toiled alongside her to make life more livable for everyone, and she tried her best to set us straight and make sure we aren't doing stupid shit.
I could have used your advice then, when I stepped into that hallway. I can only hope you'll be there to guide me again wherever we end up.

Tiffany
I appreciate how much you've done to try and contribute. As have I, so I can see that we can get along well. Keep doing what you're doing.
Sorry I can't be here to tell you this, but you should really watch out. I could see some cracks forming a bit before my error, and you need to make sure those don't turn into a pitfall for you and others. Keep yourself together.

'Guard'
A reliable person to have at your side. Knows how to handle a gun, handle herself, and handle others. I saw a lot of you but only on a surface level, but lets hope that we can get to know eachother soon.
Well, I guess I'll never really get that chance, but I can only believe that you'll guide the others to a better path. As with the others, don't let them repeat my mistakes.

"Fry"
One of the few vorts I knew. I'm glad I got to meet them, they seemed like a gentle soul, but a quite capable one. I didn't see much of you in action, or at all, infact, but I don't have a doubt that you will aid the others. Or, whatever it is you decide to do.
I've had some time to mull over just how much we need you as allies. Vortigaunts, I mean. Please, help the others, as I can't anymore, and teach them. Teach them from the mistakes of others, including me.

"Bobby"
I can respect his dedication to the cause and his willingness to interact with people, but he is way too convinced he knows better than others do. He's not a leader, but he's a fighter. About the only thing I don't like about him is that he has an inflated sense of wise decision making and doesn't ever seem to want to properly listen to what he's told to do by the majority, like that one time we wanted to search a guy we didn't recognize and he got in the way of it time and time again.
I guess I can understand why you didn't want to treat them like you didn't trust them, but you had to understand why we did it. But, it doesn't matter now. All I can hope for now is that you'll forgive me for holding you at gunpoint that one time. Not my best moment, nor the best moment of others. Good luck with your efforts, and please, cooperate more with the group, but don't be afraid to give them a smack if they do stupid shit.

Taco
As with some others, I didn't have that much time to get you know any, but I see that you're dedicated and are part of the effort for liberation, however slow it's been crawling along, and that earns my respect. Lets see if we can get to know each other more in future.
Well, looks like the 'getting to know each other' part isn't gonna be happening. Much the same as with some others. Sucks, but, it is what it is. Hope you can do better than I did. Survive, and thrive.

The Citizens
You are people living your lives. I don't feel the need to judge you, or to like you. As long as you continue to live your lives, and don't intrude on mine and the lives of my friends, you got no problems from me.
The Combine
I don't really know what to think about you. Should I hate you or should I not care? You brought a lot of good to humanity. The decrease in crime, the order. But it's all just like a house of cards, one gust of wind and it all falls down. The good you did is outweighed tenfold by the constant violations you perform on the populace. It's not all black and white, and I wish some people also understood this, but there is a reason you are the common enemy. There is a reason I hate you.
Civil Protection
You're supposed to represent the will of the Union itself, and let me tell you, you do one hell of a job at it. You prove just why we're fighting the Combine. Some may join with noble intentions, some may join out of necessity to survive or escape the deplorable food you're given unless you bend the knee, but then there are those who just want to covet any amount of power they can against the populace. And the latter is an evolutionary stage for every single one who joins. At one point or another, they all give into the intoxicating haze of power, and they continue the cycle. A poison, really. To both themselves, and to others.
The Resistance
The people fighting the good fight. As I've been among them, I've admittedly not seen all I can see yet, but with some of the people I've observed in my time there, I can understand why there is a disdain for us among the populace. Some of the people just seem to come up with the worst ideas imaginable, and seem to grab hold of the most explosive solutions as the most convenient ones. But even so, these people are my comrades, and I've dedicated myself for the cause.
The Vortigaunts
To be honest, they're the only ones I see as actually able to be trusted. Unlike the people, they always try to take the most efficient approach. That, and they're a powerful ally to have for us, so the more we try to work with them, the better.
