Name of the Admin you were banned by: Hayden
How long is the ban for?: One month.
The reason you were banned?: Ban Message below.

1675552957388.jpeg

Why do you wish to be unbanned?:

Claim One: The ban should be lifted because I did not failRP by running. I do not know what /checkrp is, so I will educate myself. Or you could have warned me and helped me get better by helping me better understand /checkrp. No, ignorance is no excuse. But this ignorance of /checkrp, and for what small effect the situation was, did not warrant a ban.

Supporting Data: One of my characters (Resistance) came face to face with several other players (OSF). The OSF were stunned and confused. They initially overcome the confusion and issued orders to drop my weapon. I then put on a uniform that caused them to become confused again, and ask their leadership for guidance. During this action / reaction / action /now their reaction moment, I took my turn to react in their confusion, by running behind cover and away from them. I imagine they didn't like the idea of having someone take advantage of their confusion ICly or OOCly. But it was in the middle of a turn based scenario in the Outlands when I had moved behind cover reasonably near me within a reasonable time of reaction that, indeed, would have confused confusion and hesitation ICly and OOCly (the best effect is when you RP so well you convince people on the other end and not just their character). Unfortunately, I may have done too well at confusing them (evidently).

Reason: I did this because they seemed to be in their dialogue, genuinely stunned. Even if I was mistaken, as we were in the Outlands, I was sure a GM or admin was watching the event, and would have reset the roleplay either right then or later on. I have been known to accept this. One time I logged off my char during CPs knocking on the door that ended up being a raid. I argued my point, the admin insisted I was in the wrong, so I said "OK, then I'd be happy to have the character in CP detention and continue roleplay from there, captured." Those were my intentions, and that was how I interpreted the situation. Obviously the ban is from the perspective from the complainants, because no GM was present to verify. If I had screenshots to show you, and you saw the RP from the OSF, you would be able to see it from my point of view, just as much as from theirs. Because of the subjective interpretation of the roleplay by both parties, this a situation is more for admin / gm intervention to make a decision on the right interpretation of the roleplay that both parties would agree to, and then continue roleplaying - but an admin / gm did not arrive and that decision was never made. The OSF just left. I made the best decision based on what I believed happen as the time, with honest intentions of what I felt was good roleplay.

Apply the rulebook on combat. I am within the rules:

From the updated guidelines and rules. "There are a few things to be aware of when it comes to combat:
  1. When initiating combat, it is required to make a /me before attacking other players. No /me was used to initiate a gun firing at me.
  2. Combat does not need a reactionary /me in order to start. The warm-up period sorts this for you. I did not initiate combat either. Combat was not initiated. I left during the warm-up period in an ICly realistic way.
    1. Voiding combat due to not seeing another performed /me is not a good reason to avoid it. The logs will state whether or not a person did so. If confused, call an admin to confirm. No one attempted to void anything.

Claim Two: The ban should be lifted because I did not failRP by acting unphased.

Supporting Data: My character reacted in a very logical, rational sequence with several weapons pointed at him. While a heavily armed rebel. I did not freak out, scream, act stunned, etc. But my character was afraid, psychologically.

Reason: I reacted very stoically, with fear, because at this point, though my character has killed many people, CPs and an OTA (ICly in Outlands against NPCs I dislike PK'ing others), 5 militia (armed citizenry), characters are required to have fear. When he had fear, he thought his way out of the situation creatively, and didn't just shoot his way out like someone panicking in fear would. So he reacted, rationally and logically. I was not unphased, but went through the sequence of events that you see through the psychology of my character, a hardened resistance fighter thinking quickly on his toes because he was under pressure and afraid to die. So he acted quickly. What should he do if he was not afraid? Not run away? He was afraid, showed fearRP and ran away. That's not failRP, that's realistic. He ran from a fight of 1v5 looking at more guns than him. You may see in screenshots they could provide, and the logs on disc.

Consider the rulebook on powergaming. I am within the rules here too:

"It is mandatory to RP fear in situations/actions which you would usually refrain from doing realistically. Repercussions of your characters actions must always be considered, situations which result in death due to a lack of fear RP may result in a PK.
  1. Drawing a gun to rob someone in the middle of a secure area. (Does not apply)
  2. Running off/drawing a gun while being aimed at. Both of us wear aiming guns at one another. We can't both just do not and yell at each other afraid, because RP does not progress. The other players were under the same pressure fearRP as me. I just decided to act rationally while afraid. My character was afraid, so he though of a creative way to get out. If he wasn't afraid, he would have started shooting. I would have made it out and I wouldn't be banned, but I didn't think it was the right thing to do.

Claim Three: The ban should be lifted, because the ban is excessive. The ban should have, at most, been a warning.

Supporting Data: I have two warnings, one is from before the holiday break. Warning one: returning to the site of my body during an OOC death. It was considered failRP, and I didn't care to bother dying over the argument against it and pissing anyone off so I let it be. Warning two: Logging off a char during a raid. I don't take things personally, and admins have the final say in any game, no matter what it is. That includes this one. So I said, 'OK," even though I feel as though I didn't deserve either warnings, I'll play by their rules. But neither warnings are related to the claims in this ban. Which means the ban was made on a new issue that had not previously been addressed with a warning, when it should have. Simply accumulating a third warning, even then, should not have warranted a ban because it was an entirely different alleged issue.

Reason: I've never been warned before the ban on this issue or claims. But even if you believe the complaints (though untrue), they would not warrant a ban without a warning. especially not a month long ban (imho). This is because of what was impacted by either party failRP'ing. Nothing. It was apart of an event, and both could have easily reset without permanent impacts.

Overall Conclusion:

We also spoke about what some people in the community meeting brought up: "Ban first, ask questions later" mentalities. That was forefrontal for some, as it was an occurrence treating the guidelines as the Codex Astartes. The "Rule Zero" ban was felt to be weaponised in some capacity in the past as it was also brought up in the meeting."

I've got that underlined, because I think his words are the most important thing I'm including in this appeal.

This was a poor admin decision: I was AFK during the ban while on another character. I came back to my computer and thought I lost connection. I logged in and saw the ban. I was surprised, because I was also never asked any questions about the allegations or claims about my RP either when I returned, via forums or discord. I was banned without being allowed to address any "several complaints," either or any of the ban reasons.

There are two reason to ban someone without clarifying, warning, or asking first. 1: That person is an immediately toxic influence on the RP and needs to be banned/kick to prevent them from continuing (minging, failrping, etc. in progress). 2. The admin banned first and is going to ask questions later or not at all. Maybe the player has to go through the loops of making an appeal before questions get asked. Because I was AFK, I was not immediately toxic or committing any of the claimed offenses. So that means the second reason for banning first and not asking questions is true. I have nothing against Hayden. It's the only option left. This is the issue that RAD-X has addressed as a sore for WN. And it's happening here. Let's reverse that decision so it's not the case.

This was a failure in GM'ing(Admin'ing): I was in the Outlands, with 5 OSF as a part of a scenario apart of an event. Was no admin really watching or responsible for them or me as we roamed the Outlands? So much so that it turned into a mistaken month long ban when it could have been resolved by GM intervention right then and there, or later on by Hayden, instead of banning? I would have been happy to reset anytime, or have my character be placed in a position where they most likely would have ended up, and continue on from there. But no admin or GM came for then or, I believe the hour after before I went AFK after logging in on another character. No one adjudicated that roleplay. I'm not just talking about that a complaint was made and believed about something subjective as failRP allegations between two RP'ers without asking the other side. But no GM was present to see what happened, and then just fix it right then and there say "No," to either side, and set it right. I don't have that objective person who saw it, without an interest or bias. Hayden did not either, just the complaints and allegations against me. This is very one-sided.

Overall, the reasons to ban me are untrue. The claims are one-sided and are subjective about the failRp. And since I was not asked about the "several complaints," I'd also like to know what these are so I can see them. Why wasn't I told what they were? Why didn't someone ask me and say "Hey Vewoth, what happened?" Everything seems a little one -sided, aggressive and excessive.

Let me ask: If I had immediately @admin and complained about the OSF powergaming, would they be typing up an appeal right now? Odds are yes, because the RP was very subjective. What if I just complained, and then left before an admin arrived and adjudicated, almost damning them to be banned later on, like, for example, if they were AFK on another character? I don't complain about people. The squeaky wheel is getting the grease in this situation. We know that's wrong. Don't let it happen. An admin didn't interfere and make an overriding decision then, but you can now, and for the better.

Finally, if you wouldn't mind, can you please post the logs that you have so I can look at those and see what you're seeing? I also welcome a reply to the points I've made in that time.

Do you have any picture or video evidence to support your reason?: No, I do not record.
Were there any witnesses who can help in this appeal?: (List the steam and/or character names of them or tag them): The OSF players infront of me.

Thank you for your time. I'd very much like to address this as soon as possible, so I can know for certain whether or not I can be at the map change event, continue RP I have going with several of my characters with different groups before and during the event (much excitement) that was immediately cut off, and generally to feed my WN crack addiction.

Nothing but respect (And love for Hayden, esp. for the nice things you said about my roleplay with Viktor). When I saw a failure admin'ing, I don't mean that as Hayden failed. I just think we've jumped the gun on the three claims and conclusory points I made. Shit happens. I have two warnings to my name that testify against the fact that everybody makes mistakes, just as what happened with the decision to make this ban.

Hello! I'll be dealing with this ban appeal. There is a lot here for me to read and a lot behind the scene's within the admin team, so allow me to explain all of this as best I can.

The above is your current warnings. The latest is from M!NT, who I as in a VC with at the time of the warning. I initially said to ban you for this instance, given how it was a blatant disregard for the rules in character swapping when you were being chased by civil protection. We agreed however to reduce this to a warning when you took ownership of the mistake and we moved you to the nexus cells for processing icly instead.

The second of these warnings is from Goose, who warned for returning to your own dead body icly after being killed. This goes against the new life rules (NLR).

These are your current bans. The first by myself was for creating multiple characters of the same name. Here is the evidence I have for this one.

I noted down that you also power gamed in this second image, you having powergamed your way into bringing another character close to their death. This is not part of the ban, just something I noted down at the time.

The second was added by Neonity, which evidence had been supplied for in this appeal: https://willard.network/forums/threads/vewoth-ban-appeal-im-back.8300/ I wont be going over this again as the term was served and appeal denied. This does however contribute to the decision made from an ooc standpoint.

The last of the bans is current and added by Hayden. he mistyped the ban message, adding /checkcp instead of /checkcrime.

There are multiple complaints about you, with other staff members having taken a keen interest in how you behave and RP on the server, bringing concerns about you in general. Looking through the complaints we have, I can see that those are listed in the following order:
Your Viktor character being in the nexus and RP'd as a cafeteria staff member/cleaner, with concerns on how you got there to begin with. You gained entry to the kill house, RPing as though you had a weapon (This was ofc a fake weapon icly and you didnt have it, so dont panic).
A minor issue in regards to gaining civil protection codes as a rebel. Logically you wouldn't know all of this in character from the get go, as the codes in civil protection are very well guarded and not well known.

Let me look over what you added in your appeal here for a moment. You say this should have been a warning, yet with your current history of bans and warnings, you dont seem to be getting the message. You consistently do something to gain warnings and bans, then head to the appeals section of the forums to detail everything you believe to be wrong with the bans. In your first appeal, it was stated as being denied by myself. You then chose to make a new appeal, appealing the decision of the previous one days later. I understand that you wished to dispute my decision on the first, but once a decision is made it typically wont alter, unless a lengthy ban such as three months is handed out to a player.

Looking at your argument against poor RP and not displaying fear RP, take a look over the three logs I have included here. After the incident began, you eventually had four others aiming their weapons at your character. Seeing as how you only RP'd running away in a very short and seemingly without any context of fear being evident. You could have emoted being scared and fearing for your life a lot better I feel.

You claim for this situation to have not failed in your RP, yet the evidence here speaks for itself in regards to not giving enough RP to illustrate anything. Looking through the logs you didnt react in any other ways, therefore suggesting to me that you didnt RP sufficiently.

I understand the frustrations of being banned, but not all instances of a rule break should warrant a warning. It is fair to ban someone for an offense, and then allow that player to go to the forums as you have done now.

As with your previous appeal, I will be denying this for all the reasons stated above. Please refrain from making an appeal for this appeal, as It will not be looked through. I urge you to think more in future in regards to the rules. You perception is very narrow and to the letter of how they can be interpreted. not all aspects of a rule is written down, as this would being about a large document for every conceivable scenario to be produced, which we don't have time to write nor the man power to oversee and administer.

I hope this clears up everything you mentioned Vewoth.
