What do you think of a wipe?

Oh yes. A very controversial topic. Do discuss the positives and negatives.

I am neutral on the matter personally.

Added Note:

A wipe is not on the table.
This is simply me, not related to the admin team, trying to find out what people think.
It is not uncommon for HL2rp servers in the past to experience a wipe, but we are not like other servers.
As we can see the community is very divided on this issue in some places. I'm sure many of these discussions will provide information to better improve the quality of the server. I thank everyone who provided well constructed feedback within this thread.

Wipes can be useful if there's a total reset or shift of schema, stuff like that, but it also drives a lot of people away who have no interest in reworking to gain everything they had.

Simply wiping items without a reset is a short-term fix and breeds resentment.
 
i 100% support a wipe. fuck them rebels. fuck them loyalists. we should all start out anew

I only just joined the server about two months ago now, so restarting/erasing all the story development I've gotten in my current characters sounds exhausting.
 
Wipe sounds good if it wont mean backstory wipe and what characters did in the past, at the expense of having to come up with a story of how they got out of a/the pickle if they ever died.
But if a full wipe ever happens it is what it is.

A character wipe- even if it would freshen up the server, would definitely make people quit. Some people on the server invest all their time into one single concentrated char.

Plus, this wouldn’t effect characters with no actual development, like OTA or CPs, so there’s a bias

My CP has no char development? Guess he's just an NPC. As Leudoberct said, CPs have actual character development. If they didn't then pk appeals for them would be useless so why bother using it and CP faction would be boring. A constant reminder that CPs are basically citizens with guns and a bit more authority. They are not like OTA.

Based suggestion: Just wipe the rebels clean. I will not elaborate.

Big no. Only benefit of a wipe as far as I am concerned is that it could rebalance rebels to be far more in-line with how they should be, rather than private militias. That being said, without staff actually doing anything to prevent it from just instantly happening again, this doesn't even matter.

It would just be a massive slap to pretty much every character on the server with no real benefit.
 
Sorry, gotta vote no on this. Spent a good few months working my character to loyalist status and I can't just make a new char and get all my shit again like rebels asking their friends for gear when they get their old rebel PKed.
 
Considering the detrimental state of the Rebel economy due to simple neglect and the ability to gain extremely overpowered weaponry within a week or two's time... I think an item wipe instead of a full database wipe would be the best.

CP's are just as valid of a character as rebels, vortiguants, citizens or anything else.
Saying that CP's have no development is not only mean, it is simply false. You may see a masked grunt beating you up because that is their job.

Some may be edgecops the occasional cringebag is in the force too, but rebels don't have that? 'Mr Freedom fighter' give up his own life, sounds just as generic as an edgecop.

There is no bias, everyone's characters will be lost.
