HL2RP works best when the citizen has fun. CWU/DOB/CMU, whatever. They are all citizens. CPs interact with citizens. CCA serve to compliment citizen rp, etc.

Citizens have fun by having uncertainty whenever you hop on. There could be a riot today. Maybe there will be a rave. Maybe you'll get a task from a gang to go beat someone up. Maybe you'll get your shit rocked in a fight pit. Maybe a hippie commune sprouted up. Maybe a communist revolutionary is peddling some bullshit in a back alleyway. It's boring when you know you're only going to hop on, afk at a bench, and then attend a workshift and hop off.

fun times:

Can we just stop with these threads? I feel like these threads are just ALL TALK and no real discussion of change, if something meaningful wants to be done, organize it, do it! Overcome the obscales and adapt, not complain on the forums.

No. Any real discussion of change wont happen, there are too many people who wish for the downfall of certain factions. All the ideas of change are things that wont happen because the playerbase or devs dont want them to happen. One major change would be to give up the Goofy hilarious roleplay( Its not really that funny to begin with ), we live in a dystopia, funny things should be grim (like half life 2??? really???) rather than "omg hahah!! this guy is so goofy and silly thats not how you do that!!", PLEASE get rid of all the gimmick characters and get rid of all the characters that try so painfully hard to be funny. Next, the rebel grind, make it 10x less grindy but make being a rebel and staying alive as a rebel hard, very simple. We get guns easy but we have to duck and dive and wait for a chance to strike over what happens now where people hide and do their very "funny" base RP and do nothing, dont make being a rebel riskless but instead make rebels actually want to keep their char instead of their gear. Loyalists, reduce the grind, I have never once grinded for loyalist but just hearing about how hard it is they really need to cut back on that shit bro, people have real lives, dont sap them of it. Or you can just make loyalists harder to join, but not the grind, make loyalists exclusive and really hard to get into but reduce the grind please. Admins, shitty response times, very simple fix, have admins be non-players who just fuck with players or play event chars, fucking with players should entail a level of troll, making it fun for the admin and confusing as fuck for the player. Dont give players OP items but say 2 characters are travelling together, you may wish to drop a weapon and see the outcome, maybe then place a zombie to see if they kill it or place a zombie in a bait area where you will place even more zombies and have them run away, little events that make the world seem alive instead of them RPing on a char they already have, I understand admins want to have fun but you really cant make us wait like 30 minutes just to get something fixed bro, cmon like we are playing the same server. TBC, just fucking remove it bro, I understand devs want to keep it but holy shit just rid us of it, nobody who plays actively really wants it, it hurts RP and makes deaths seem long and boring. Keep it for events, thats fine but have it turned off nearly perma on main server, PLEASE nobody who place regularly really wants it, plus it would make death seem alot more real and draw out, it also gives players more chance to escape. Encourage the bullying of bad RPers, this one is a no brainer, you bully those who RP poorly which will encourage them to up their RP and bully others with poor rp, it also encourages more grim RP. Make loyalists to be loyalists not just gifted citizens, why the fuck do loyalists see citizens eye to eye? tbh the combine should just remove those loyalists in reality as they break the very system that they are inside, you are higher than people, do you think a plantation owner would look his slave in the eyes? do you think a noble would look a sickly farmhand in the eyes? Do you think anyone with power would look at their lessers normally? no, because thats retarded. I have a few more but this is already super long cba doing any more.

tends to happen when you get 0 dev support + staff make plans for your own faction without involving the lead 🥰😇
Not really?

Could've done a lot of things with the faction lead role - stores were never open, all of them had the same permits putting forth a cookie-cutter effect when it came to marketing/products (Loved the Siemens who went outside the box, same with the guitar store, who had to get custom items to set them apart from others) but general activity for 3/4's were still shameful and made everything (slums and city) a ghost town.

Plus 0 dev support? Make a forum suggestion or DM one, did that as a new player and got a reply within 12 hours.

I don't know. I am new here and not trying to shit on anyone but the DoB was just a bag of vortigaunt poo. Had so many holes you could've duct taped over you shouldn't be blaming other people on your way out.

People are out here waxing poetic like "man I miss 2021 WN that was peak" when that was literally just over a year ago. The community has barely been open just over a year and its already suffering like the place has been open for 2-3. Its not good, to be blunt.

The problems started much earlier than the i17 event. The i17 event was just when people started to realise the problems couldn't be ignored.

I don't know another 'roleplay community' that was so high on its own supply it decided to suck two more communities in under its umbrella (why would you do that if you wanted to skip the stigma of being run like a buisness? Because real talk, I don't know another community that did this lmao) and end up so complex that a CM has to tell a player on the forums "I can't do anything about you being bullied because the SS staff aren't under me" when in any other community all the eggs would be in one neat basket.

As it turns out, punching your best, brightest and most dedicated in the teeth while telling them "where else you gonna go if we don't change and everything you do is cringe?" isn't a good plan for when you have nothing to replace their efforts with after they walk away. That's ultimately what happened. The arrogance of community members and staff who should have been fostering more freedom at a time where the server was booming instead made them stamp it out.

Even the success of the i17 event was dismissed with "well we had to make them happen and it lasted three days anyway" as if one of those things wasn't good for roleplay and the other couldn't have been avoided through admin intervention. There was no attempt to translate it to the main server or carry on what worked. It got locked in its own bubble again and dismissed.

Finally? WN relied way too much on dev work to draw people in. TBC, content updates and stuff all look flashy but don't leave you with much when that novelty wears off. If I can't stretch my legs and spice stuff up, I'm not gonna play regardless of how shiny everything is.

Why would you not think of that? They literally have the tag in the discord. Aspen and Robert
whoa dude, oh man, thanks so much!!! had 0 idea! actually clueless!!!!!! dob is saved!!!!!!!!!!! ur so smart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People can accuse KG of not putting in enough effort but I think it's fundamentally misdirected. The Department of Business itself held a decentralized model with nominal tithing that was, imho, negligible at worst and downright forgettable at best; being used as a mechanic to ensure adherence and activity. Anyone who passed the minimum credentials were given the most autonomy out of all the factions with the least amount of Out of Character and In Character oversight to do as they pleased.

The downfall of the system ironically is its most boon: Because that such autonomy was gifted, it was ultimately the shop proprietor's own designs on how it functioned. And, without proper creativity, a lot of it fell into cookie cutter schematic because people overall desired money out of the system which concomitantly created shops that weren't inherently player-oriented gatherings but instead player stand-ins for NPCs.

The reason why the Pint succeeded at being successful is because that it was ran as a player hotspot first, and shop second. KG understood this; and everyone whom was employed at the Pint during its stages also understood this: Roleplay first, credits second. Factoring into adjacent and detached shops failing isn't because of KG's mismanagement but because of systematic failure borne out of a need of almost omnipresent upkeep.

Not to mention staff threatening a former faction-lead in a CCC for refusing to entertain the idea of implementing an already proven-to-fail system with gaping holes in it wasn't a good look either lol.

The Pint was the only store I used back when I played. The characters we good, it was consistent. But it also had a great location and a great understanding of why it worked and stuck to that. Not every store on the map could have pulled that off, to be honest, and I think expecting it was naive.

There is no "magic win button" for stores and probably never will be. You will never see a map full of active stores with roleplay on-par with what the Pint offered, because stores like The Pint needed a lot of things to go right to work.

This unironically the worst take I have ever read.

Literally all I had to do was talk with people. That's it. It wasn't a magical formula, it just wasn't being boring. That's what made the Pint work.
