What is the point of char auths after events? Like fr? either just let us keep the characters or tell us we gotta get rid of them. all it really does is waste time as you have to grind up and play the event and then after that you have to write a little essay on why your character should be allowed back even though you are told you can take your character back?? To add to that, if an event has a proper ending say the rebels that survived get away and the citizens, loyalists etc get relocated what happens if someone makes an app then? I guess they just fell into the backrooms during their journey or whatever they were doing? I dont understand why someone else can have a say on if your character lives or if your character dies, especially when you spend a decent amount of time on said character.

It would be better to just say you can have the characters or you cannot have the characters I feel that the need to authorize a character that you have been told you can keep is nonsense and a waste of time and yes I know I am making this as I am rather miffed as I lost my char this way I wont lie or sugar coat it, I just know others may feel the same as lets be honest you would rather die shotcopping than have an admin tell you you cant get your char (that you spent time on mind you) back even though the event states that you can take your char and their items back to the main server. IDK if there was a format to follow I'm just posting this how it is I also want to say I dont wanna give any admins flak as they are just doing their admin shit if it seems like that it shouldnt and sorry if it does.

I understand it sucks, but our process is important to prevent overpowered items and what not from flowing into the RP. You could’ve brought back a suitcase full of items, as explicitly stated. Not everything, plus we do it to ensure the authorization provides quality instead of just being “joe rebel” number 52

If you wished to prevent overpowered items from coming into the RP you could have just nipped it in the bud by not letting those overpowered items come into play like at all or just brought them about in an event where people cant take their characters back with them and I dont like basing someones RP off of a forum even so what stops them from making a char like that anyway? If someone doesnt know how to RP properly or cant make a backstory getting rid of their char wont make them an ace RPer or give them an amazing backstory, it would be better to just let them keep their char and point them into the the right direction for being a good RPer instead of killing a chance they have to show off their RP prowess and making them start from ground zero.

I forgot to solo reply to this but what was also stated was that you could take back anything no mention of a suitcase, also why just a suitcase? I get that for non rebels but why the rebels aswell? and I know the suitcase part was mentioned but it was at the end unless I missed the part where it also got said at the start of the event

Was talking to someone about this and I feel they had a good point. He basically said that if you survive through to the end of the event long enough to see an in RP escape made by the event admins/GMs that you should just keep your char, this does really only apply to specific situations but idk if he has a forum account so I posted this for him

This was an judgement call by the managers of the Short-Story team, we allowed for people to apply for bringing their character back from City 8 but the process was harsh and hard to bring your character in, especially with items that may affect the main server overrall.

This is an issue more overrall with how things were handled on their side rather then an issue with character authorisations itself.

I understand making it hard for chars to come back with the authorisation but surely just surviving the event is enough I get that there were some strong items let out but there was a high risk high reward element as well, not just for rebels I dont think I mean I hardly played civi so idk all I know about is the terrorist attacks. I get making it hard but playing through an event, surviving till the end and all that just so you can write an essay on why you should be let back even though there is an RP reason for you returning AND not only that there is a suitcase limit, like writing an essay is bad enough but a limit too?

Yes, the limit was put into place to protect the economy. A massive intake of random items can easily mess things up for the long run. This was an agreement settled upon by SS and main server management. I understand the frustrations of not being able to carry over your character, but unfortunately not everyone can be satisfied all the time.

Not to mention, the majority have no motivation to go to city twenty four for anything other than the player intending to keep their character. There are other cities closer, and city eight is recovering well from the outbreak.

To reiterate once more, this was done to prevent a wave of items flowing into hurt the economy, and a wave of characters that wouldn’t provide anything else then being Johnny rebel number 32.

I hope this clarifies. I myself won’t be responding to this thread further, however @FungletheBungle is free to correct me on the reasoning for the authorizations and suitcase limitations. Same with @Fedora

Well actually, we do just as you suggest right now. Anyone can use a city 8 character on 24 if they want to. The auths are in place because

1. We don't have a system to transfer our databases characters to the main servers. Which leads us into point

2. Auths are for specific skill boosts or items, you want them, use an auth

Wait so I can use my char I just wont have any of my items?

If the economy was such a worry why didnt staff just mediate what they handed out and honestly just make the C8 event the main server x2 and I reallly do understand that you dont want cringy reb chars in but bro fr what just stops them remaking the same char, if they are piss poor at roleplaying what makes you think they wont just remake their char? sorry if the spelling is off for some of the things im pretty hunpver rn

Character authorizations primarily exist to give unique characters a reason to exist in the world, and give them the resources or skills needed to help make that character truly their own. This way people can create unique experiences for others without having to go through a bunch of hoops to get it done. They can get their special character right away, and all they have to do is write an auth which explains why the character is in C24, and how they came to be. That's all there is to it.

Character auths can make way for incredibly special and unique characters, like the Cremator ( https://willard.network/forums/threads/cremator-char-auth.5366/ ) or Grunk the Bullsquid ( https://willard.network/forums/threads/grunk-the-bullsquid.3326/ ).

These are just a few of the unique characters people have come up with, and yes, some are human.

Lucas Constantine: https://willard.network/forums/threads/lucas-constantine-character-authorization.4455/

I think from reading these examples you can understand why they needed an auth to exist, as they're all truly special and memorable characters. This is what makes the auths system great, and it's why we need them. We can't give away free items under the premise that "Oh they asked for it when they created the character" because we do not know how well they RP, and what their unique character offers in terms of roleplay for the rest of the server.

Regarding the City 8 event, those auths existed so people could play on their existing characters during the break. The suitcase deal was a compromise made, because gaining items during the event was way quicker than on the main server, because of the event's limited duration. Guns were handed out like candy, as they were mostly meaningless and almost always used by temporary characters, against other temporary event characters.

Guns were gained incredibly fast during the event, which is not really a problem, but did become one when the concern of returning to C24 was brought up. We settled on only letting people transfer a suitcase worth of items back, just like how they got in, and no guns. This ensured people wouldn't get a massively unfair advantage upon returning to the main server.

I hope that answered your question. Feel free to DM me on Discord if you need to know any more.

I understand that shit was gained alot quicker during the event, like fr I get it but I feel if someone managed to survive till the end of the event you should just get to keep everything, my reasoning for this is. 1, playing to survive as a rebel was tough and from my experience we were handed out the most shit, I know that one Yakuza guy got alot too but idk about other civis, I can recall 2 moments where I almost died but only survived due to the combine missing their shots and not only that but there were rebels who died in gunfights with the combine you know ultimately loosing all of their shit and losing that char, the combine would also regularly come down into the sewers forcing us to hide just to be kicked out of hiding by the admins, talk on that in another point. 2, time was a big issue on the server as if I had been told about the suitcase limit for leaving I wouldn't have played to much into the event, I understand that shit was broken when coming back into the main server but cmon, me and others spent alot of time in this event just to lose everything despite them putting in the hours. 3, admin encouragement and the rebels leaving the city, during the event the admins would regularly push us to do something, like anything to attack the combine and to those who werent rebels that sounds like a piece of cake you know, but really it wasnt, they blocked off the major part of the sewers, they would regularly send combine down after us and would then tell us to leave, this is fine I believe they had all good intentions but they made it super hard for us to survive while giving us little, I imagine they did this with the civis too and the terrorist attacks, tbh I didnt play civi at all and onto my second point of rebels leaving the city, while the rebels were leaving the city only like 4 of us had guns one didnt have ammo for it and another couldnt use his? I remember Me, M3ntal, juno and another were the only ones who had guns, excluding the event char played by fiery, personally 4 guns getting back into the economy isnt really that bad since, A) we stayed alive till the end of the event with all odds against us, B) We took the time to play out the event story instead of just dipping despite having the CPs down our back half the time and C) 1 had no ammo the other couldnt use his. Sorry if this seems like a text dump but I cant lie im kinda annoyed that the same thing keeps getting said, I know its the main point but honestly look from all angles, because in reality if we had spent the same amount of time grinding on the main server we would more than likely have had a weapon, I also think its bogus for some people to lose the swaggy in RP benefits from their experience either as a gangster or rebel during C8

As mentioned above, this is denied and I’m not reconsidering the decision. I understand you put time into the event, but so did everybody else who didn’t get to bring back characters and I’m not going to go around making exceptions to make everyone feel better. As Fungle said, and I personally agree with, you can bring the character but you are not bringing any items over as already stated in your THREE denied authorizations. Whether you feel our system is ‘bogus’ does not change our decisions, and I will not give in because you feel you’ve been treated unfairly.

You are not bringing the items over. Stop asking for a reconsideration or trying to get us to change our minds. If you only attended the event for script benefits you missed the entire purpose of the event.
