Willard is to soft and 'bright'

city roleplay has and always will be boring. it was fun hopping on city-24 for the first time but now it’s just the same ol’ grind over and over again. that’s why i mostly look out for events or at least interesting stuff in-game. i get im supposed to socialize and befriend a group of people to even remotely have fun but there’s no incentive for me to do so.

regarding the sudden change in dystopian rp, it’s still there and has been there for a while. there are some nice CPs every once a while but it’s still an oppressive Half-Life environment so i can’t complain there

I don't make it seem like it, I know for a fact that there are more than two people. With the people I mentioned in the screenshots and me, we're already three. The rest of the people got 99'd over this was Constas and Culture and I'm sure I don't have to ask for their opinion in order to know that the entire act was uncalled for. Don't downplay it by saying it's two units. Even if it was just two units, something like this has no place inside a faction that represents the face of the server. Period.
yeah me and constas got 99'd for that shit as well @vilhjalmrf . i was almost gonna quit and say fuck this soft server i'm waiting for nebulous 2

That incident was borderline retarded and from then on my rp quality degraded. What is the honest fucking point in trying when all you have is a faction that is resemblant more to a steamy shit clinging the edge of the toilet water than an actual paramilitary dystopian police force.

does this shit happen still? what is the absolute state of this faction in 2022?

the faction is boring

Um, the incentive is the roleplay.

I'm struggling to imagine a single possible iteration of Willard that would even be mildly entertaining and wouldn't require you to make friends.

Here's my take on it. Let's throw this back on topic hopefully and away from the toxic cesspool that's begun to form. AHEM.

Yes, the server isn't exactly a dystopia anymore, it's Half-Life centered roleplay, but I don't exactly hate it for that.

Dystopia means an oppressing atmosphere, a loss of individualism, environmental control and a need for everyone to try and survive.
Let's be frank here, unless you hang out in the slums exclusively you'd never get all of the above. But if we went full dystopia? Well, just look at regular Half-Life 2 in the start level, everyone's wearing the same clothes, grabbing rations from the train stations, no talking in the streets between people ID checks around every corner. If we tried to follow that to a Tee it'd be boring as fuck with no creative opens to start expressing or doing things. Does it go over the top with the creative freedoms? Ehhhh, a bit, which could be reigned in. But some people (who I won't name) already complain that CPs can be too harsh on people with random checks, abuse of power over loyalists, ect. So there's obviously a divide in this.

Would I personally like to see it toned back slightly, so there's at least more of an oppressive atmosphere feel to the everyday shmuck and only the loyalists are treated somewhat fairly? Yeah. But that'll take change and time, unless we suddenly to go City 27 and turn into a Half-Life 2 Beta RP server where you can't even fart without getting a 99.

i don't think you guys know what you want

I believe the issue is traffic. Due to the server being online there will always be an incoming and outgoing group of people. Some whom are new, or veterans to roleplay; and those who've either been banned or left. It means policy will always be advocated for change and things that work, once worked, will be viewed negatively while other times such things that were disregarded or outright denied will be pushed forward again with intent to implement and make it work.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. But it also isn't necessarily a good thing. And it can be aggravating for players who're veterans; and been around for a longer time than most.

Guys come on, no toxicity.

I just want a friendly discussion on the server.

All be yes, these are excellent points to make regarding the Civil Protection faction.
You worded it very aggressively, I don't want this thread being locked at 3 pages.
Also you as well, @Culture

The current state of the faction as the way I see it is doing ok. Not perfect or at its best but has been doing alright. Nothing too crazy has happened. Of course it's been boring recently considering the low pop the past two weeks. I'm assuming the case is everyone is just waiting for the event like usual.

Honestly, I think complaining that the setting of Willard isn't "dark and dystopian" enough kind of misses the point. One thing that I haven't seen anyone in this thread mention so far is that this server's date is still a couple years off from the events of HL2, and is generally closer to how life under the Combine is portrayed in HLA than it is in HL2. Like, shit, in HLA you have citizens talking to each other and doing normal shit on the streets, even riding bicycles to get to different parts of the city seemingly without any issue, and while it's clear that Civil Protection in HLA do basically just mass-arrest everyone under suspicion of rebel activity in a district and other dystopian-ish shit like that, we can't exactly do that on the City 24 map, since the Nexus doesn't have much logistics to hold so many people there, and we wouldn't know what to do with them anyway (plus just amputating everyone or sending them off to Nova Prospekt would suck since a lot people don't like having their characters suddenly PK'd over bullshit like that). Like, I myself personally enjoyed the first week of the i17 event (up until the first Judgement Waiver where that whole corruption thing got derailed). In my opinion, the way the server handles things right now is that they're just attempting to ride the fine line of portraying life under the Combine similar to how it's depicted in HLA while also trying to keep things enjoyable enough for the average player to the point where doing some of the more extreme dystopian-like actions (like, say, CPs mass arresting the whole district under suspicion of planned rebel activity, or even just the entirety of the slums) would probably get annoying and grating after a while. Hell, as someone already mentioned earlier in the thread, there's people out there who complain that CPs are being too bullying even under the current conditions, so opinions are definitely divided over this. Still, I think that the server has a good foundation for stuff right now, but that some changes probably still need to be made to encourage people to do more spontaneous events that aren't all done under admin initiative, but I wouldn't know how to do that.

This is probably gonna be my last post here and try to wrap this up as we had this discussion many times. (And yes, this whole thread has seem to lost track of the topic a little but what can you do.) Time and time again your feedback as always been heard. The one issue I see is a lot of people have their own idea of a 'dystopia' for Willard or percieve one thing as an issue while others may not think it's a problem. Some make good points, others not so much. Sometimes it's silly, sometimes it's just flat out wrong, sometimes it might be a good idea to push for. Regardless, the ultimate decision is up to Alte and the CMs (or FLs/CT). And that decision must take consideration.

Considering with the recent meeting (though a little messy and random), the CMs (and FLs for those who wrote posts specifically towards a faction) will take our feedback and hopefully make use of it. Not a lot of transparency goes on in that regard so we are mostly in the dark. But I have trust that Maroon (who started the meeting) and from the sounds of it Rad-X as well to push for some quality changes. Either it be pushing for more events, map rotation, switching to seasonal, altering the atmosphere on the current map, changes to a faction, etc. Whatever it may be, it'll take time, planning. and discussions (hooray, arguing!) as we don't want to shit it out and end up being disappointed. So don't expect anything anytime soon.

Now I must leave. I gave myself a headache. :)

I think we can leave it at that and end the discussion here.
Close the thread at your own choice.
