So, I started to remember old willard. Right?
Peak 2021 Willard, may I add.
Such stores as The Pint, Deliveries, Kaji Industries, Russels ect ect. Now, we don't really have any 'fun' stores anymore. We now have 'Bonk'
(Which is literally a rip off of a item on TF2) and Bank soda(Which is ironically a rip off of a rip off), I understand 'not everything needs to be serious', and yeah I can agree. But, shit like that goes down to borderline Semi Serious, Impulse level of RP I'd say. The only serious or good RP factions/groups I've seen are, Vortigaunt(Partially), Hoshi Clan, Citizens(Partially), CWU. And that's it.

Now this is something I've mentioned probably a thousand times, but I'll mention it again.
Willard is to 'soft' lore and RP wise, CP's talking to people in the open. People wearing fedoras and fucking big suits in the streets. Loyalists being generally nice to everyone(I'll get into this later). People respecting Vortigaunts way to much. And, at last. The bright ass vending machines and signs.

Loyalists need to be more 'brainwashed' per-say. As, we all know. In lore, the Breen water fucks with your head making you forget stuff. You'd think, after a certain tier the combine would begin to do measures to keep their loyalists, loyal. An example, and I know its a bit big, but Flexterns char(I forget his name), hating slummers or non loyalists. Now, ever since V4, Loyalists have been goodie two shoes to about everyone I've noticed, least the last time I saw them.

Slum RP. Once a thriving place to be a outcast, now remains a memory of what was a reason to be in the slums other then to do crime. Now, I know this isn't 'Willards' fault, its mainly due to the player count being shit, and continuing to be shit. But, I know a way to revive it. Force CP's to be assholes again, cause lets be fair. Seeing a CP be nice to you is immersive breaking, its not the CP's we know from base game. Scary cops that can kill and beat you for any and all reasons. Now, since Slum RP is dead. Most people live in the city, and this is a result to CP's being soft. I've done this, and many others have. Its called 'starting off neutral', and since CP's are nice to everyone. They ICly see no reason to rebel.

NPC's and Events. Willard events back then, were nuts. There was one where a Xen crystal was in the slums, teleporting people to a admin box room. That was fun, yeah sort of stupid. But fun, something most Admins haven't gotten to in the Dictionary it seems, but regardless. Now, yes we have CT's now. But, if GM's were made WAAAY sooner, willard would've probably not gone to this state so quickly in its life. Now, we can't go back in time. But, we can replicate the past of what was working. Willard is like Metalica in a way, what it had was working super well. Then they changed, and caused shit to go south.

Moral of the story is, make willard fun again.

and i get in trouble for Dan Badchick’s existence… damn you donavin for another cope post to add to the pile

jokes aside the issues addressed here do make sense and they could’ve done something different with how everything would be handled. they literally wiped the roleplay when changing it over to district nine yet they make everything fundamentally the same, just with a new coat of paint and that paint being the map change. i am disappointed this went from dystopian rp to chicago but Half-Life 2

I'll at least comment on the Civil Protection portion, considering I can't entirely speak for other factions given I've never actually been in them. We tried the "be assholes route" before the break, believe just after the map switch, and this came with serious community backlash. Could it have been because of how we went about it? Sure, I can see that. I haven't seen "nice CPs", especially on my rebel character but this could be attributed to the fact that I know exactly what buttons to push. Some have been outright sadistic, dick-ish, or even overtly evil to the point it might even be considered cartoony. We have tried the "no talking rule" and got a lot of pushback, although it's still technically in effect, so we'll see if there will be continued opposition after the break.

I will say though, ClapTrap is implementing major changes that'll hopefully fix some of these issues regarding CP-to-Civ interaction, and I have full confidence in his decisions. This faction will be doing a bit of house cleaning and heavy changes. Also, I guarantee you, anyone who is openly talking out in the open with other citizens will get punished should they get caught either by Dispatch, a Commanding Unit, or an RL.

Also, it's not really feasible to control what direction someone'll take their character in, and it takes away Willard's core value of "Freedom Of Roleplay". Not saying I don't agree with you, but I don't see it possible at least nowadays for them to push players into doing something specific with their character. That's sorta why you see people becoming loyalists regardless of the atrocities they witness or experience, which I have seen myself on my own Civil Protection characters. I personally have given several characters several reasons to rebel in some manner, even forcing them to beat other citizens at risk of their own record, and yet they not only enjoy it but also think it's a reason to be buddy-buddy with my character. Or even with your Vortigaunt, where I put him in unbearable pain screaming on the side of the Plaza only for the same people watching sticking up for the cops and not even having a single thought against the Combine. There's IC reasoning and OOC reasoning, 9/10 players will follow what they want to do with their character OOC'ly. Oh, you want to have a CP whitelist? Pfft, fuck whatever I see them doing, I'm just going to work for that whitelist regardless of what they've done in front of my very eyes.

Outside of this, I do not believe we should lean on past systems, but elaborate on current ones and take inspiration from past systems. There is a reason why management moved from them in the first place, and those reasons will fester into more problems at this community certainly does not need. Otherwise, the past few years would have been for absolutely nothing.

This is not the case in Willard. Everyone can remember things just fine, but may choose to be forgetful if they feel like it, unrelated to the water itself, which does nothing. It’s water.

TL;DR: No Freedom of Roleplay in a Roleplay server.

I agree that there aren't many shops open, nor any interesting ones at that. It just seems counterproductive when players complain about there being no shops, then the same players apply for the same generic restaurants/bar store. This was even the case before the CWU even got the DOB. Everyone wants to complain about there being no "fun" stores but then nobody actually tries to open one.

turns out roleplaying as a retail worker is about as fun as being one, i do not blame people for not bothering and/or giving up shortly after realising how soul crushingly boring it is.

it hasnt been open since december last year when you also made similar posts with similar points. Hold off on cope posts until we can see if theyre bothering to incorporate feedback from these threads into the actual running server, otherwise you're just wasting your time imo.

It's about as fun as you want it to be generally, for most people this really is just whacking out a /me offers POS terminal bind, taking script, giving script, and saying goodbye.

The most successful stores in Willard were the ones which forced people to RP out the exchange to something more meaningful, Deliveries was a very interesting idea which did this well. Sunrise regularly had 2-4 staff members constantly interacting with each other and customers, it's a snowball effect - the more RP you provide, the more people give back, and the more people come to your store. I'll say, though. This can be more difficult when your store is for example selling clothes, or tools - something you can't really do too much with I guess.

This is a general statement, and it might not be true for you, but it's my experience and I've noticed a lot of people run stores in the most mind numbingly boring way possible so of course they'll get annoyed and rarely get on to do it.

You may all be interested then in reading a bit of this:

This page is currently filling up with suggestions made by me as well as M!NT with contributions by many others on fixing Willard and bringing it back to what it's supposed to be and yes; they are long reads but explanations + solutions better than nothing.

Like bro do something yourself. You seems to have idea, how about you making them yourself ingame? Bro c'mon. I will give my opinion to this in an another comment. You made like 7 Willard plx Fix posts. Like you can cope so hard as possible, but shit won't change. Because people like you just coping instead of doing 💀💀💀

Another one of these threads. Look...

We get it. Same thing, different thread.

That's why multiple correlative factions, roleplaying systems and scales of organisation are being worked on which is rather why we're doing instead of talking.

With the highest dues of respect to everyone, I'm locking this thread and others like it from now on until the 13th. I get that things aren't great but they can get better. Wait till two days into the future where a community meeting takes place (info in our Discord in announcements) and we can all talk about it there, together as one. Stop doomposting.
