Ground Life of Xen​

Xen is home to many species both ground and air. In terms of its ground species, it has quite a few of both a mix of passive creatures and hostile creatures.

Headcrabs​

Headcrabs are among the most widespread Xenian organisms currently known to inhabit Earth. Originally encountered during the Black Mesa Incident, the species has since established populations across much of the planet following years of Portal Storm activity.

Resembling an unusually aggressive terrestrial crab, the Headcrab is capable of rapidly closing the distance between itself and a target by launching its entire body forward. This behavior makes the creature particularly dangerous in confined environments, where civilians or other unfortunate personnel may have little opportunity to evade an attack.

Much of the Headcrab's biology remains poorly understood. Early observations have nevertheless confirmed that the species is capable of surviving in a wide range of environments, explaining its frequent presence in wilderness areas, abandoned structures and underground infrastructure such as the Sewers of Urban Centres.

Rare sightings throughout the Portal Storm Crisis have suggested that the common Headcrab is only one member of a wider family of related organisms. Several unusual variants have been reported, though the limited number of encounters has left scientists with little understanding of their biology, behaviour or the threat they may pose compared to their more common counterpart.

Houndeyes​

Houndeyes are one of the more commonly encountered Xenian creatures known to operate in groups or packs. Resembling a three-legged, dog-like organism, the species is most frequently observed travelling alongside others of its kind with isolated Houndeye sightings being considerably unique.

While their appearance may initially seem less threatening than many of Earth's larger Xenian predators, Houndeyes are capable of producing a powerful bio-electrical discharge. Unlike creatures that rely on direct physical attacks, a Houndeye can release this energy across a surrounding area, making groups of the creatures particularly dangerous in enclosed spaces.

Current observations suggest that the creatures are highly dependent upon their pack behavior, although the nature of their social structure and the exact biological process behind their electrical abilities remain poorly understood. Other noted records cover an assumed "boost" in power based on the size of the pack.
