EVERY GOOD SERVER NEEDS A GEAR WIPE.

Roleplay is about character development, not collecting items and upgrades.

Is all the gear our rebels, cops, citizens, conscripts, etc. have helpful to roleplay?

No.

Quite frankly, this has gone too far.

The overflowing amount of weapons possessed by each faction disables cops from actually fighting rebels, so OTA (Non-characters) do it in their stead. That's not fun for rebel players or cop players.

What happened to evenly-matched sweeps and sewer incursions in the old days? Gangs and street warfare? Real people with real stories and goals fighting to the last? Cops, refugees and citizens duking it out with stun-baton, crowbar, pistols and shotguns/SMGs?

Small-time real world violence, skirmishes, drug dealers, and the criminal underworld being a real tangible threat, one that isn't able to get blown over at the drop of a hat like the Kamikos were?

Every faction is guilty of this, either in doing it themselves or trying to adapt so that the other doesn't win over them. The 'grind' should be pretty easy with small pay-offs, but with harsh consequences as it always has.

We need to reward good roleplay and good characters over aceing the gameplay loop.

What does deathmatching do for your character? Will you accurately roleplay their medical consequences? The wounds, the phantom pain, the physical therapy? The stress?

No, and even if you will, many won't, so why bother?

Let's quit playing to win.

Let's quit running and gunning and trying to obtain scripts for a game made by an engine old enough to drink in dozens of countries.

Let's scale down the deathmatch and amp up the dystopia.

More curfews, sweeps, drug-deals, gangs, real stories and just fucking hopelessness, less grinding and whining and OOC arguments.

More molotovs, less grenades.
(For the Combine too; you think cops would be trusted with things like grenades? They had to roll explosive barrels toward Gordon in the base-game because they didn't have any other explosives.

Civil Protection are relatively primitive thugs, not real first-world law enforcement. There is no due process in the Combine Occupation.)

Less scriptwhoring and arcade-style entertainment, less treating a fascinating and entertaining experiment of how a science-fiction inspired tyranny would be run like a reskinned City Roleplay with somewhat mean-spirited gas-masked cops.

Fascism is not when the police are mean, Fascism is an oppressive, disgusting, all-consuming system and the aliens that control Earth WILL USE IT to control you. It isn't easy to fight back and murder dozens of Combine Soldiers...

Yet Willard has made it easy. That is fundamentally against what the gamemode is about.

Why is this relevant to the gear wipe? The gear wipe will promote and help the original HL2RP atmosphere that many tried to cultivate in bygone years.

You aren't an action movie hero, you're just another human being with a fucked up life. Maybe you served in an Army, maybe you sold real-estate, maybe you were and are a doctor,

but it only takes a second to die.

More playing characters with props instead of playing vessels meant to obtain these props.

Agree if you support a general wipe of weapons/armor for all characters, Disagree if you think there is another solution present.

I will submit only one time to the noble discordians telling me to edit my dogshit formatting.

If what I have to say about atmosphere is schizo-ranting, I DON'T WANNA BE SANE.

I love you all, especially @MelonHeadzzz . Thank you for reading.

At this point given how long it's been, I'd agree with a fresh start, new environment, level playing field

Man if gutsy was still here he would make a rant about how having 50 AR2s and 300 AKs would benefit the roleplay against 2 cops with USPs

Least script-hungry play-to-win OTA/sentinel mains.

its actually ridiculous btw. not to imply that ota players have a single functioning braincell (they don't) but rebels shouldn't be capable of taking out an entire squad of them without even preparation

I don't know who this newgen is, but I agree with his views. Back in my day even having an hatchet was a huge accomplishment for rebels...

I'm relatively new to Willards, but I've been on HL2RP for a while, lmaoooo. Thank you though man.

ALSO, I completely welcome any and all criticism and alternative solutions, but I 100% expect there's gonna be atleast one person who will bitch and moan (I'd hate to be harsh, but that's what it is) about the prospect of their precious gear getting taken away.
I'm going to pull an Israel in the 6-day war here and pre-emptively say something before that happens, and just advise that if you're seriously worried about your character's GEAR going away, you should reconsider what makes your character a character. My character Marcelo isn't a rebel because she has a knife and a pistol, she's a rebel because of her mindset. My former cop PATROL-36 wasn't a psychopathic asshole because of his cop suit and his sub-machine gun, he was a psychopathic asshole because he grew up that way.

The insistence upon mindless CvR has harmed the roleplay opportunities of numerous players, and everyone from me, a pretty risk-taking combine main to countless others are kinda tired of it. It encourages a play to win, arcade-y atmosphere, OOC factionalism and, in my professional words, an OOC pissbaby mindset. I would go so far to say that now that Gutsy and some others are gone, we can finally make the changes NEEDED to make this server a lot more fun for serious roleplayers instead of just a grind-to-win slog.

All for a gear wipe and a simplification of scripts. Bring back the base game USP, MP7, SPAZ-12, and AR2 and have that be it. The majority of conflicts should be melee weapons/USP and maybe an MP7 if shit gets real. Would make for easier S2RP rather than straight to S2K like it is right now. Some of my fondest memories playing HL2RP were being a shitzen baiting a cop into my housing unit where my roommates are waiting to mug them and P2Ling the scenario. Albeit that was a about 8/10 years ago. We're playing HL2RP, not Fortnite where my giga rebel needs a gold scar.

Indeed, I ultimately do enjoy a good bout of S2M/S2K but the weapons involved need to be a lot more..Irregular and house to house.

I want to see cops in a third-world district having to make their own sub-machine guns and shit, man. Imagine if Civil Protection had to scavenge and grind just like rebels for anything better than a pistol? Wouldn't that be cool? The Combine play a game in the black market just as much as the rebels do?

It'd definitely be deviating from the HL2 lore and what people usually do, but I think it'd be strange, interesting, unique and awesome and something that would provoke a lot more roleplay than normal.

I think it's an interesting concept for sure, maybe should be played around with by a Short Story or such to gauge its actual feasibility before being applied to the main server. With my current understanding of the Willard world, the fabricators and such would make it easy for the combine to mass produce the USP and stun sticks to all of its districts, hence my suggestion. Making MP7's, SPAZ-12, .357 Magnum, and the AR2 more uncommon would also allow for more RP on both sides as well. Combine have something to work towards, Rebels have to learn these unit's movements, what makes them become vulnerable, where to trap them etc in order to obtain these weapons.

Did that actually. Didn't really work out.

I have forwarded this to rebel reps to discuss further, thanks for the suggestion.

Many people have always agreed that yes, a full wipe would fix most of the issues we face - but previous rebel reps/lead have fought against it constantly. We would like to hear if more rebel players agree with this than disagree, too.

Another more logistical point to the favor of a gear wipe is the simple fact we are about to enter a custom map after waiting for months while it was in development.

We will be on this map for at least three months. Realistically four. Possibly even Six or beyond that. Either way, we will not be going anywhere for a long time, as nobody would enjoy that after such an extensive wait.

Thus, rebels being more powerful than the Combine and having major capacity to disrupt, damage and ultimately bring ruin to the city (which is what will happen) will just lead to an endlessly repeating cascade of pointless attacks that lead to nothing because, for quite some time, there will be no action a player can take that will cause a map change. Period.

This is on top of all other points people have mentioned, but its worth a callout regardless.

Aye, so far a lot of issues have arisen due to over-geared rebels, and cops in code black ofc, but 100% of the time, cops get wiped, resulting in OTA having to be called in, and even we struggle to compete, that's how you know it's broken, when OTA are acting more like in the HL2 games against Freeman rather than actually being a credible threat as in lore, it's so bad we've had to use synths to even stand a chance.

And I'm play both rebel and OTA so I understand it from both points

OTA shouldn't have to be called in at basically any rebel engagement due to how quickly they completely wipe CPs (not fun for CPs)
OTA should be rarer to come across, and a big threat if they do (More fun for OTA and rebels)
Rebels shouldn't have weapons as if they're a stereotypical American doomsday prepper (more fun for everyone)

A wipe is absolutely the only solution to fix the current CvR environment, sure it's a kick in the teeth for the rebels, but as stated before, weapons are not your life, enjoy your character and whatnot more.
