It's just the fact that a good amount of population is living underground and it's full with Xen now. Rebels were denied an escape and instead were pushed to hide in the surface because.. Admins wanted to railroad them a scene in which they would have to risk their lives with an amputation by choosing to settle in RB-3. I know groups that planned an escape through canals but apparently this city doesnt have canals under it as Dazor confirmed therefore people been just pooping on the streets this entire time? Anyway, long story short ''rebels risk amputation on the surface until friday only then you can take part in our escape event where you will take even more risks for your characters and we wont authorise your early escape so we can find people for our events that will risk your PK.'' and therefore people just simply refuse to log to go through the map switch event or having to go through ''rebels moving to surface'' bullshit.

whaddaya mean no? I got told soon as I made my character "sink or swim no training." I've played civil protection before but the new guys no wonder they dont know what to do.
true. and its so instantly strict

The Duchy didn't receive free items aside from occasionally a guy bringing down food, I'm just a loser who had a long Christmas break and sat up late at night grinding trash nodes. I literally brought in like 90% of the materials they had before they got nuked by an admin event (They really weren't biased for the Styx) the staff were just trying to give engagement to the literal largest rebel group we had like 18 members.
to say Duchy weren't given items would be a complete lie

you have been repeatedly given events, one of which you were given a gun (which was thankfully voided) and another in which you were given antlion extract (literally resurrection juice) amongst many other events whilst others were granted none

you also had admin locked containers

I don't blame the duchy for this but you're being disingenuous if you believe your efforts were completely 'legitimate'

of course xanthum fucked it all up for you but that's just because he's bad at running events

either way, I believe most people summed up the shit parts of the server already

- portions of the staff are terrible at their job or outright abusive
- the CMs move at snails pace in reaction to actual problems
- the staff team all have different ideas of how the server should work
- the server itself goes against the rp grain due to the fact that the xp and grind system is seeded into every aspect of it
- map shite
- DoP faction is worthless and needs changed
- overwatch factions continued to embarass themselves after 3 weeks of complaints
- tbc system is pretty wank and not refined at all
- the server was launched in early access with needlessly different ideas (rdm allowed lol)

Yeah. They definitely were given something. It's just that no-one can agree how much they were actually given.
you also had admin locked containers
At first, true, although this was changed and I believe all containers were unlocked

- portions of the staff are terrible at their job or outright abusive
yes

- the CMs move at snails pace in reaction to actual problems
Either there's more private discussions/they want to understand the situation before acting, or they're just slow.

- DoP faction is worthless and needs changed
that's being worked on by Pineapple

- overwatch factions continued to embarass themselves after 3 weeks of complaints
RAD-X is fixing it

- tbc system is pretty wank and not refined at all
imo just needs to reduce/remove the autojoin range and use manual joining instead. most complaints were after random people got involved in the fight

There should be a way to submit stuff like this and see it being worked on soon

This is literately the tl;dr of this entire thread, pretty well summed up. If you’ve paid attention to nothing else so far this’ll be what u should be looking at

After some discussion with the other CMs; we have come to the decision to re-open this thread for further discussion regarding this matter. Please make sure you're acting civil throughout this thread.

UNLOCKED
Thank you!

They did a side job for the extract, though extract is kinda retarded as a reward for a job, idk if anyone actually used it or if it survived the base nuking. I agree that's just dumb.

They got 2 guns for doing some jobs and both were lost in the duchy nuking. A single-action revolver, and an uzi. The revolver only had 24 shots, and the uzi had none.

we only had like 2 admin locked containers and one of em was my personal one that glitched, and it didn't have anything in it before or after the base got destroyed.

May I just add to this; the guns have since been removed, along with the containers; the ones that were admin passworded got removed. (Minus the glitched ones)

As @cunt said quite plainly; a lot of the way Willard is/was structured read less about an actual understanding of what running a community actually entails in 2021 and far more about being out-and-out contrarian so they can go "Look! we're not like those other servers!" - which is a big part of why more time in the three weeks post-launch was spent either panickedly trying to deflect or downplay issues until they physically couldn't risk doing so anymore.

Gmod is not a nice, wholesome place to build a community in. You will get trolls, minges, people who abuse your rules - or lack thereof, in this case - and those who're just looking to abuse your loopholes. A lot of those communities seem the way they do because they've sacrificed certain freedoms for the knowledge they can keep a playerbase that wants to be there and be idiot-proof. You have to account for the same things they do or you're not going to see anything but a repeat of this botched launch, or you'll die in a few months as the issues ramp up and the playerbase tears you apart.

What WN needs to do is focus on letting the community fit into its own niche rather than painting itself into this over-hyped corner that's somehow going to topple the other big communities out there while not accepting any of the baggage that comes with being one itself.

Fully agree with you there; half-the-reason we have paused, we need to establish ourselves, look at ourselves and our community; and see what the right direction really is. I am confident we'll open in a couple of months and really gain a stable player-base, but it's just the matter of fact of doing so; and I do think we have the team here to complete that, with some heavy reforms.

I'm glad to hear it.

People have to accept WN isn't going to revolutionise the HL2RP scene - its far too late for that. It isn't going to kill communities that've been around for years (and any community that has tried to do that whether you look at TnB, SCG, Nebulous or CC have died trying). It isn't going to get max pop all day every day forever.

What it is fully capable of doing is finding its own niche in the Gmod SeriousRP scene and coaxing players who like what it offers compares to other communities while keeping a stable playerbase in the process. That is perfectly within your reach and should be the primary goal.

My biggest frustration watching WN pre-launch was the rampant ego displayed by some people who should have known better that painted other successful communities as 'soulless' and 'corrupt' while touting WN as the future that somehow wouldn't suffer these issues at all. This wasn't just hidden behind closed doors; this was open and shouted from the rooftops.

The problem with that approach though is unlike back in the day where nobody liked eachother a lot of those other communities who're still around help eachother out and are good friends upper management wise. So naturally when this started getting spread, WN's reputation amongst other communities plummeted. You started to get negative attention long before you even had anything close to a working server.

If that changes and if priorities shift away from trying to be anything but what you can achieve, I have no doubt you can come back from this.

I do think the ego can easily be raised though, that is the stem of the issue. With the unique features we had, it was hard pre-launch to look at what we had compared to the bigger communities, such as Nebulous; and be like, well why can't we be bigger then them? I have never had any real issues with Nebulous, it's a community I have played on for many years, along with Lemonpunch; but my previous actions have really deflated my chance of returning, in which I do not wish to do so as I care greatly for this community. When we launch, everything was in shape; I feel like the mindset we were in, how unique we were, nothing could go wrong! But, we were clearly wrong. This pause is needed, we need to re-think ourselves and really push forward, so many communities have been built stability without the bigger communities. I am confident we can come back from this, I am glad to see we share the same views.

(I am quite drunk, so this post might not make any sense, I tried my best!)

Fully agreed.

Willard is not dead. Willard is unconscious. When Willard wakes up, he needs a cup of tea and an aspirin and he'll be right as rain.

Alot of the problems here can be attirbuted to minges like The Goodfellas, Cashflow, Kaligni and Begotten. We need to do a purge of minges.

Now, hang on. This may sound strange, but Goodfella is actually a really good RPer and he contributes a lot to the server, no homo.

The others, well, I mean, I'm not totally sure, but you shouldn't be pointing fingers right now.

I agree with the minge part; not the part about our boi' Ron Goodfella.

Goodfella isn't quite a minge imo. He's just an interesting character that has a different mindset than others and to be fair, he plays into it well.
