How do I put this..?
Remember when Willard was fun?

Not fun in the sense of, "Oh wow, it's a videogame; relax, unwind." But rather, fun in the sense of "Oh wow, I can join this server and not have to worry about all the bullshit of everyday life," or rather, "Oh wow, I can play this fun HL2RP without having to deal with everyone's bureaucracy."

I remember that Willard, I remember it fondly, but as of late, that Willard, that sweet summer child, is but just that, a memory.
A long distant past that I yearn for, and I believe that the resurrection of such a memory is close at hand.

And that resurrection is because of Rad-X and what he does for this server.

Since I've joined Willard, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. I am a player, and I am staff. I was banned, and I play daily. I was a minge, and I take the game seriously.
And now? I find
myself as one of the few remaining true players left on the staff team.

You may ask yourself, "What? No! Everyone on the staff plays! Everyone on the team roleplays!"
But that's not what I mean. Everyone on staff plays, yes, but not everyone is a player.

Players are the backbone of this server, the everyday joe, the guy who just wants to relax and play the fucking video game without having to worry about other people, their opinions, and how they think their shit doesn't stink.

Most staff, in my eyes, as wrong as this may seem, are not players; they are staff.

They join Willard, and they see it as a job. They douse themselves in the bureaucracy, they thrive in the drama, they yearn for their "one true vision," and they ruin the game.

They beg for AP because they can't take a step back to realize that sometimes players just want to keep playing.
They beg for AP because they forgot what it's like to be that frenzied kid who's excited to continue his character's story.
They beg for AP because they forgot what it's like to genuinely enjoy the game.

And that's what breaks my heart. That's what gets me.

This thread is not really a complaint thread, but a wake-up call to the staff team. A wake-up call to all the people who were staff, who are staff, who will be staff, and those who get caught up in the bureaucracy.

This is a game.
And you better start to remember that.
Or else, you'll lose yourself, and you'll lose sight of what this server, the game we all are supposed to enjoy, is meant to be.

Thank you.

I mean even this is a bit melodramatic.

The staff drama is excessive and its caused a few leaps off the ship, clearly. It just needs to chill. Paints a really bad picture. I don't think it goes much deeper than that.
Proclaiming Rad or anyone else as a venerable saint is just a weird as painting him as a Nazi Stormtrooper.

I understand the desire to swiftly fix Short Stories, as it is a big draw for a lot of players, but it should never come at the expense of the the comfort of players in the community. There were plenty of other, much better options.

Reading the other thread and seeing the only points in Fungle's favor being "He's learned to shut up about being Anti-LGBT" and "Some LGBT people have chosen to be friends with a bigot." doesn't inspire any confidence at all.

I don't care how good he is at running Short Stories, that isn't the sort of precedent you want to set. We won't see an apology post or an admission from others that Fungle has genuinely changed, because he hasn't changed. He's just learned that he keeps his opinions private, which doesn't change the fact he's now back in a position of power.

I think Rad-X is a great guy overall but I think this was a major blunder for absolutely no real gain. So in that regard, I don't blame anyone for quitting over the decision.

Two things wrong with this thread, in my opinion -

The glazing of RAD

And the complaint about bureaucracy.

RAD isn't infallible. Nobody is. I'm sure that comes as granted. But he isn't god, and he hasn't singlehandedly lead this community to some golden age. He has absolutely put in a lot of work, but so has Robert, so have the faction leads, so have the team leads, and all of the people who contribute.

Just like everyone has contributed, everyone has made their fair share of mistakes. RAD and other SCs mistakes just don't tend to see the public eye, because there's teams that review and cry out "This is bad! This is terrible!". If everything in this community was dictated by RAD I don't think it'd be as it currently is.

I'll say, maybe I'm biased, because the ultimate reason I left is because contributions are forgotten the minute you step out.

As for bureaucracy - what processes do you think currently exist, that shouldn't? When I hear that buzzword I just think of auths, PK requests, PK appeals, and I think of how people tend to try to skip the hierarchy to go straight to RAD or whoever they think will give a preferable response, regardless of their relevance.

I see all of the current bureaucracy as 'needed' to make sure the community stays healthy. Or as healthy as it can be. But, as ex-staff and ex-SC, maybe I'm biased in some way.

The glazing of RAD

RAD isn't infallible...he isn't god, and he hasn't singlehandedly lead this community to some golden age
I never claimed he was infallible; hell, I never claimed he was even god, or that he was leading us to some 'golden age,' as apparently, according to you, I did.

I merely stated that I believe he, and how he has chosen to act, seems to me to have done more good in the last week than many people have done in the last year. And because of that, a resurrection of a "Fun-centric" server is at hand.

For one example, relations are now better than ever with our Echo One brethren, as even they said they couldn't have possibly imagined a year ago that the relationship between the two communities would be like it is now.

And the complaint about bureaucracy...I hear that buzzword I just think of auths, PK requests, PK appeals, and I think of how people tend to try to skip the hierarchy to go straight to RAD or whoever they think will give a preferable response, regardless of their relevance.

My complaint about bureaucracy comes from the constant red-taping of anything and everything fun, for the sake of "Well, we have these systems and these policies..."

Not everything needs a 27-member team to dictate how people should roleplay. Not everything needs a manager to tell someone, "Hey, you're roleplaying the wrong way, do this instead," or, "Hey, you're interacting with our community wrong. Do this instead."

I've noticed often that people bypass the chain of command and go straight to RAD because RAD has the player at heart, he wants the best for the server and the roleplayer, in my humble opinion.

A lot of times, you would try to do something to be met with "Erm, ackshully!" and that's not fun. If even the director of the server can see that, then there's something wrong.

In short, 🤓
