How do I put this..?
Remember when Willard was fun?

Not fun in the sense of, "Oh wow, it's a videogame; relax, unwind." But rather, fun in the sense of "Oh wow, I can join this server and not have to worry about all the bullshit of everyday life," or rather, "Oh wow, I can play this fun HL2RP without having to deal with everyone's bureaucracy."

I remember that Willard, I remember it fondly, but as of late, that Willard, that sweet summer child, is but just that, a memory.
A long distant past that I yearn for, and I believe that the resurrection of such a memory is close at hand.

And that resurrection is because of Rad-X and what he does for this server.

Since I've joined Willard, I've been on both sides of the spectrum. I am a player, and I am staff. I was banned, and I play daily. I was a minge, and I take the game seriously.
And now? I find
myself as one of the few remaining true players left on the staff team.

You may ask yourself, "What? No! Everyone on the staff plays! Everyone on the team roleplays!"
But that's not what I mean. Everyone on staff plays, yes, but not everyone is a player.

Players are the backbone of this server, the everyday joe, the guy who just wants to relax and play the fucking video game without having to worry about other people, their opinions, and how they think their shit doesn't stink.

Most staff, in my eyes, as wrong as this may seem, are not players; they are staff.

They join Willard, and they see it as a job. They douse themselves in the bureaucracy, they thrive in the drama, they yearn for their "one true vision," and they ruin the game.

They beg for AP because they can't take a step back to realize that sometimes players just want to keep playing.
They beg for AP because they forgot what it's like to be that frenzied kid who's excited to continue his character's story.
They beg for AP because they forgot what it's like to genuinely enjoy the game.

And that's what breaks my heart. That's what gets me.

This thread is not really a complaint thread, but a wake-up call to the staff team. A wake-up call to all the people who were staff, who are staff, who will be staff, and those who get caught up in the bureaucracy.

This is a game.
And you better start to remember that.
Or else, you'll lose yourself, and you'll lose sight of what this server, the game we all are supposed to enjoy, is meant to be.

Thank you.

Kinda ironic to talk about how Willard should be more fun and less about drama, then immediately dunk on people for commenting? Don't be hypocritical, this thread just invalidates what you say.

I think a lot of us do miss when things felt more relaxed and we just played for fun though :) I do sometimes!

I know there's always a division between two camps and you're all wanting to be here for the same reason; play to make some friends and have long lasting memories from shares stories we create.

But truthfully that's easier said than done. The ill-consistencies regarding Serious RP atm and Willard is that the current iteration we have been running is a maintenance nightmare. It's far exceeded its lifespan and should, by any account and statistic - be dead by now. It's an abnormal lifespan for the current iteration and that's frankly due to a number of reasons orbiting adaptation.

So when that cogwheel finally stops, there'll be a hard reset on much. We're all tired of maintaining and being on the defensive, and we want to push and push hard when it comes to making this whole project stand up. The problem is having to juggle every voice, every concern, and every faculty put in place whether we agree, disagree or what-ever.

People come, people go. People stay, people resign. People forget and people watch, and it's the watchers that sit in anticipation because they don't want to deal with the bullshit when it comes to play. So they wait and they pick their time to come back and test the waters.

I'd like to thank everyone who's been very supportive of the community, nevermind myself in this regard though I'm just one guy. It's sweat and tears that's kept us around as likely one of the most longest, constantly running HL2RP servers probably in this niche-gamemode's history. Theoretically shouldn't have been possible, but it ended up being possible.

If we didn't end up juggling so much and having to adapt in such quickness when every voice and concern is met with two eyes and two ears rather than one of each, that we wouldn't be here today as a server let alone be able to have conversations like these.

So yes, everyone wants the server to be fun. Others would take the opportunity to circle it like carrions in the sky waiting to sap a next meal, but they're few and scattered.

I'm going to close this thread now, since I don't want people to fight or square up or make some hefty assumptions. Most of the time, it's why here anyway if it isn't trying to make something cool even if it is a little bit wacky and out of depth.

Again, thank you for the kind words but I also thank you for everyone's concerns because they are being taken into account. Though that'll take quite a bit of time to get calibrated for all of them, nevermind the few that matter the most.

If you want to help expand what we can do then by all means come join the event's team because I am looking for people that have that knack for doing cool shit and that's not just being regulated to City RP, but expeditions, Sector War and the like. Lots, lots more to do than meets the eye if you want to do more than seeing it portrayed through the eyes of the character.

I think it is more than fun.

The effects of a continually running internationally performed meditation on dystopia defies comprehension. Willard is a significant work. No other era of civilization has permitted such a project. It is built upon billions of dollars of infrastructure both physical and programmatic, and synthesizes together daily the collective will of some 200 plus souls; each of whom brings their own unique cognitive metabolization of the cultures which produced them. There are simply too many ingredients in this soup called Willard to list.

I also had fun today.

I hope you do too.

Willard Networks, once you get to know it properly, gives off the vibe of being run like a company, a very unprofitable one at that… rather than by people with genuine passion for the game. For many, it feels more like a burden than a passion project, though that sentiment is rare and usually only seen within the staff ranks which is probs what ur experiencing @ramen

Titles and positions often seem to embolden some into acting like self-important “superiors” with questionable ethics and decision making skills. But at the end of the day, it’s still a game.

Start treating it like something meant to be fun, and maybe “old Willard” could return but that effort has to come from everyone, not just one person at the top. The constant internal drama every couple of weeks, wreaking havoc amongst those meant to be running things, certainly doesn’t help. It’s no surprise nothing has changed, nor will it lol its Willard after all.

It’s like renaming the “Council” over and over, yet still letting it dictate most decisions… unless Rad or someone of similar rank ignores them to push through their own unpopular idea, which is nothing new either. Even with the “promised restructure,” nothing has truly shifted in regards to that topic.

But what do I know? I retired gracefully, without fallacies, and without any issues whatsoever! :angrycop:
