The Isle of Mann

After the Black Mesa Incident, which swept the world over with portal storms, the Isle of Mann while seemingly protected by its geography wasn't left unharmed. Local portal storms ravaged most of the surrounding British Isles, though due to it's central location mostly only felt the aftermath from the weather changes, leading to large storms and flooding. These portal storms and extreme weather incidents made sure that the shipments that Mann usually received no longer occurred, which led to quite a large drop in the population of those that stayed in the towns.

When the Combine arrived, and when they created cities two and nine, they had also surveyed the Isle of Mann. What they found wasn't much of a surprise from most of the rest of the world. The bigger towns were deserted, and the population that was left was so spread out and unorganized that they were left to their own devices, to what the Combine saw as their death, as they posed no threat and would most likely kill each other off in the struggle for food.

The Island went unobserved after this, and differing from what the Combine thought would happen, the people started to rebuild. Unknown to the Combine, Manx culture and society were both homogeneous, and from their already low population and population density, they already had a society that cared for each other. Mostly building farmsteads not just to solve the food problem but also the housing problem. The towns and villages had been left uninhabitable from the storms, and the spread out farmers that had survived couldn't house everyone, and so they taught them how to farm for themselves and sent them on their way to claim their own land.

Now, thirteen years after the disaster that almost wiped them out, the Manx have persevered and continue to rebuild. Their population is stagnant, though not for a lack of trying. They have gone back to using hand tools to do all of their work, as they have preserved certain historical sites from the Victorian era that have examples of tools and methods used before electricity was widespread.

tf2 is cannon? POG
So everybody from Australia has a mustache, teleportation was done by the engineer, Kleiner is a hack or at least perfected it. Saxton Hale prolly held the combine forces by punching them into extinction. What else can we get in?

This is pretty interesting, though my question is where is this located on the world map because so far the Combine have taken all humans into cities, even ones from tribes except something like this lore post already exists, just not visible on the world map due to being hidden away where no resistance member nor the Combine know of their existence.

I find it a bit odd for the Combine to look at a place and just ignore it because they are not a threat but I guess I can also see the logic if they came across it when the pop was really low and still dropping because of how the people were living in such terrible conditions that chances of survival were below 1% and thus the Combine decided it was not worth taking those people and just left them to supposedly die. Though I would assume they would've checked on it again later on as they wouldn't simply ignore it forever.

So I am pretty neutral on this submission. It sounds good and is quite interesting to have around but an island similar to this already exists in the world which is heavily isolated from any of the continents with no comms tech, no modern equipment and all. And as I said above, maybe the Combine would check in every now and then, so I would expect these people to be keeping their heads low still since the Combine can roll up at any time and annihilate them if they are found to be growing back to normal.

It'd be on the Isle of Mann/Man, which as of right now IRL has a population of around 81k that's shrinking. So I'd imagine it'd be maybe somewhere around 10-20k in-universe after the portal storms and whatnot. The population stays away from the destroyed towns and villages mainly living in-land on farms or in the Glens (Forested areas with rivers and tree cover). Some people even fish in canoes off the north coast as to not incur interest from City Nine, though at risk with the wildlife from the Caledonian Coille. And it's not like they don't have tech, they just prefer to not use it unless extremely necessary as they have no way to charge or fuel anything from the resources they have on the island.
