Lmao the resistance can't even organize themselves without fucking capping one another over stupid trivial shit half the time, And the ones that manage to get decent gear get ram ranch'd by a single Overwatch Fireteam. True ascension for humanity lies within the transhuman arm, Glory to the union and may the empire of man lie among the stars it's offspring reigning chaos amongst the solar system and leaving behind corpses in alien ditches eyes forever staring up into alien skies. Anyone who wouldn't eventually join the Combine is either stupid or some kind of unsavable hopeful individual, The world outside the cities is literally a hell-scape North America is essentially craters and a series of xenian hell that given enough time will overtake the planet and terra form us anyway, As they saying goes it's better to die with your boots on. If the combine just up and left humanity the way we currently are in-game. You'd eventually maybe not right away but soon you'd see a violent collapse followed by revolutions and uprisings which would destroy the remnants of civilization that the combine managed to scrape together alongside breen for them. While living as a loyalist in a boring city isn't optimal for everyone its a far more humane life then the outside world is to them. I.E You can live a semi-normal life have friends form relationships find a career a home. Or you can live outside the walls with no support system no logistics no plan and either be gunned down by some autonomous defense system or be boofed and torn apart alive by some xenian Monstrosity. You ask me? Overwatch all day everyday Hooah. I'm gonna die eventually better to live my life out then die in battle honorably like a warrior rather then live in xen mold like some rat fighting against other anti-citizens who wound up outside the city.
 
Depends on why. Just because I can? Nope. An alien race took over earth? Probably, depending on my other options. I lost a limb or had some serious physical disability? 100%

I think you forgot the part where they basically lobotomize you, devoid you of emotions, delete all your past memories and make you forget about your loved ones and your family.
 
It is questions like these that give me time to consider exactly what my place in such a scenario would be, where would my calling, be it my desire or otherwise, bring me?

A rebel fighting desperately to restore mankind's dominion on a dying world, faced with impossible odds but pushing forth anyway?
A lobotomized half-being who's very march makes the former quake with uncertainty?
An average citizen, committing the equally impressive feat of just surviving under harsh rule, protecting what is immediately cherished by myself?

Then I realize, I would be none of these things.

I would be the stalker that gets bonked by the corrupted roller mine in Episode 1.

If the Combine took over without all the horrors they do, id simp for them.

I mean look at their amazing technology; teleportation, dark energy (clean), bionics, etc.

Unironically if they weren't a genocidal murdering galactic spanning Empire and came as neutral conquerors that instilled Human leaders while giving us access to their technology (at least provisionally) and let us govern ourselves as long as we give them a set amount of materials (like 10% of worldwide materials) they'd most likely win over Earth.

Much like a frog being boiled doesn't realize its dying till its too late; but maybe we woulda figured out a way to use their technology to colonize nearby planets and better ourselves as a species as a whole; much like during the colonial times.

IMO this would be the best most realistic peaceful out-come humanity could ever possibly hope for under combine rule. And it might even be possible given the CA's collectively work towards it as a goal. Earth wouldn't be a prize alone but think of how much resources lie within our universe if we managed to colonize planets like mars? or some of the metal rich planet's out there. Realistically it's extremely unlikely the resistance could win militarily against the combine you can argue earth could become a Vietnam/Afghanistan. But the issue with that is the combine have seemingly endless supplies and soldiers and could just throw human conscripts even at the insurgents until our numbers are so thin that we're either wiped out or conscripted into the transhuman arm. Or they just say fuck it and glass the planet.


Even if we look at the original ending of EP-1-2 The combine get cut off from earth by a semi-organized resistance movement, But did the combine really even lose anything? When you have potentially billions of soldiers not counting the synths which if pitted agianst the resistance would litterally tear them in half with little difficulty. The combine aren't the one who are going to lose. They could load a space ship up with the OTA they have and grab the remaining CP's Arteria and transhumanize them and leave humanity to decay in their derelict cities until human nature takes over unpoliced and anarchy and war breaks out amongst militas fighting for control of resources. Only this time no New world government will be there to save them and the world will after a few years look like threads meets cyberpunk.

Imagine your death meaning absolutely nothing to anyone and laying dead in a ditch only to be eaten by some xen creature. When you could at the very least die honorably on the battlefield and help secure the longevity of your species. In reality the combine is the best of a shitty situation.
