Deagant's Hot Concept - MAA GMP & Others (brainstorming shitpost/not an official request)

My thinking is that the MMA could be useful for certain storybeats. Say, a megaevent where the entire City gets conscripted. But, alas, this City and Map just isn't it.
I'm inclined to agree with RedHot and Merlin on this one. I feel like too much energy (and resources) have been put into a faction that, in general, is trying to outgrow its use to enhance the flavor of the community in any way or shape. If CT have something that could utilize MAA to a degree, say the mega-event Merlin brings up here, then MAA as a 'faction' could be brought back sporadically, but I don't think it should be catered for specifically... let alone create a system as complicated as this.

Disagree. I do not believe MAA should be a military in any sort of form. That's what OTA are for. MAA should, as all factions (except for OTA), be citizens in suits. MAA fits more of the bill as, said before, a rag-tag group of mercenaries than a military. They're all cannon fodder sent out on missions not important enough for OTA to step in. Why give expensive weapons like M4s to men that are expected to die? MAA should be handed leftovers.
1. Its an entirely icly volunteer regiment.
2. the combine is a totalitarian regime over earth Mercenary factions require some form of free market.
3.They're not citizens in suit's that's Civil Protection.
4They're not rag-tag the MAA Is historically made up of Veterans pre-war and modern ones.
5. The "Cannon fodder" sent to die are the Penal battalions and ones sent specifically on suicide missions much like the 103rd.

No, it wouldn't be a case of the CT not giving a shit, it would be a case of being physically unable to properly run the event. I produced events elsewhere, and I know first-hand how easy is to get burnt out doing this, even more easily in the case of these player-tailored expeditions.

Also, wording it like that is kinda silly, the MAA is not the victim here, the CT doesn't hate the faction, the MAA committed reputational suicide back when we were given the opportunity to be a full-time faction in the city. It's actually surprising that staff allowed the faction to continue existing after that, yet some members are still complaining??
Thanks for explaining I didnt intend my first reply to come off as a jab or a personal attack I was just failing to understand the point you were making is all.

I will now try my best to make a proper response. I still fail to understand how the CT would be physically unable to properly run events but (and I really dont want this to come off as dickish) why would they be a member of the CT if they get burnt out making events? Like I completely understand why someone would get burnt out doing events especially if they are very mechanical and technical but isnt that more the fault of the CT? If they cant make an event (which to my knowledge is one of their many jobs within the server) then what is the point of having them? This also goes for singular people in the CT also.

I can understand my wording may have come off as silly however there is a reason to that as stated above. I never once implied the MAA is the victim and I didnt imply the CT hated the faction and I understand they may have had some shit RP in the past however, to completely remove a faction based on the actions of the people inside it is strange, this is possibly because I have come from other servers that I believe have a way better way of fixing issues like this however I digress. The players of the MAA have a right to complain as they have been stripped of pretty much everything due to some people fucking about and even worse I see the argument that the MAA shouldnt be the military?? I shall debunk that. Why cant the MAA be the military? Someone please tell me their argument so I may respond to is please.

1. I don't see how this changes my point.
2. I don't think the MAA would be allowed free market over things like guns and weapons... since, y'know.
3. What makes them any different from Civil Protection? MAA are quite literally citizens in suits. If anything, Civil Protection would realistically be more geared than MAA.
4. I never said they are a rag-tag group. What I'm saying is that they *should* be one.
5. Again, MAA's use in-lore is to quite literally deal with problems OTA feel are too miniscule to solve themselves. All of them are expendable, which is exactly what cannon fodder is.

Just going to drop this in here:

3.They're not citizens in suit's that's Civil Protection.
4They're not rag-tag the MAA Is historically made up of Veterans pre-war and modern ones.

As one of the people who did the lore for them: They are all of those things, absolutely. MAA is the lowest rung of the entire Overwatch ladder and the main functions they have is to:

1. Handle missions best executed with horde tactics
2. Handle missions of lesser importance that OTA need not waste themselves on
3. Secure and hold areas of minor importance

If OTA were quick and easy to make, MAA would not even exist. It's only purpose is to act as a expendable buffer in the vein of its more important Transhuman and Synthetic counterparts. Even CP's are more important than MAA relatively speaking, as CP's hold together cites, which are far more important than most thing MAA have a hand in holding.

Why cant the MAA be the military? Someone please tell me their argument so I may respond to is please.
Because the Combine are not stupid. They give MAA only what they absolutely need to complete a mission. They do not allow them to stockpile mass amounts of weapons, ammo and they barely allow them any vehicles at all. As, if they did, they would just rebel as they can exist independently from the Combine at that point. Besides, Combine don't give a shit about some random humans regardless. They aren't anything close to a military, as them being powerful is irrelevant to their purpose. They are an intentionally hamstrung group of Imperial Guard style hordes, designed for what was listed above and not a single ounce more.

I still fail to understand how the CT would be physically unable to properly run events but (and I really dont want this to come off as dickish) why would they be a member of the CT if they get burnt out making events?

Quick example as it isn't that complicated of a concept:

6 man expedition will likely take 1-2 weeks to setup. Depends on how many people you have to do it, but you have to; plan narrative, map, propping, internal events, outcomes, item distribution, event characters, organize CT members, coordinate with players etc.

Events are not easy. Cause any event worth having is not going to be done in a day. It's going to take loads of effort, even some of the bad ones do.
Which is why MAA should just be a background excuse for citizens to go on Expos.

Because the Combine already HAVE a military. Why would they allow the MAA, which are quite literally (usually) a bunch of citizens they raked off the street, and prefer them as a military over transhuman powerhouses who are incapable of disobeying or going rogue?

Why would they give them any sort of access to large-scale, expensive, and powerful weapons? It just wouldn't make much sense.

Lets just put this into real world standards. Why do you think people such as the SAS, GROM, GIGN etc. arent sent out on every mission? Why do you think we still have armies today? The point of the MAA is to be expendable and in combine standards their gear isnt really top notch its pretty on par if not worse than the CPs gear. The MAA arent meant to be a main army kinda thing whilst the OTA are meant to be like SF and Guards of HVTs, while the MAA are meant to be cannon fodder and should be used in situations where 5 super soldiers wont cut it

Basically MAA is the ''''army'''' and OTA are spec ops lol

Bro fr, MAA is badass cannon fodder. Tbh i'd like to turn the MAA in the Krieg's deathkorps from Warhammer 40k lmao. Loyal bastards issued with water guns fighting webuls. Sounds pretty cool to me

I feel like the status of both the OTA and MAA are being exagerated here, yes, both are military forces, the point is OTA are Overwatch's high readiness, mobile force, but you can't possibly garrison a whole planet with their limited numbers. That's where the MAA comes in, any non-critical position you have to garrison you can just conscript enough bums from the nearest city and you're done. So OTA is the equivalent of your professional army (both frontline troopers and special forces), while the MAA is the locally conscripted militia filling the gaps.

As you said, OTA is the equivalent of your professional army. Which means MAA is not a professional army. MAA shouldn't ever be any sort of professional force, so trying to give them all this powerful gear makes 0 sense.

What powerful gear?

I am going to be blunt but honest.

Concept sounds to me that someone wants a real job in the metaverse, being in charge of made up loot numbers.

Over complications, especially for a faction that does not represent the entire gamemode will just cause burn outs.

The bar is being raised so high with this idea that when it falls would it be catastrophic for those who would be invested in this idea.

You are fair to say that this is a schizo post. I believe this to be an indication that you have much free time this summer and are hence trying to be productive by coming up with this idea as a way of doing atleast something to spark a dialogue.

You gotta take a break - focus rather on character than systems as you'll easily lose yourself trying to achieve perfection

That's what I'm arguing, I'd rather MAA were actual conscripts struggling with life than the circlejerk club of hardcore loyalists that it is right now, honestly it makes for boring roleplay.

Not much more to discuss here, but the OP suggestion doesn't fix the main issue of the MAA right now, I don't think. Let's say this is accepted without any other context; MAA gets back to work, Wreath starts recruiting people again, from there you'll realize:
  1. For a myriad of reasons, characters played by your most regular players are most likely not joining
  2. Your more likely sign-ups are the new players that are clueless to any of the issues plaguing the MAA (which was the kind of player that joined in droves a month back or so but just stopped coming after they realized the faction doesn't really offer them anything enjoyable activity-wise)
You can't fix the null interest in the faction by promising players expeditions because, as I said before, expecting the CT to carry your faction is unfair; and also stupid since right now they would be wasting time on planning something for a faction that consists of (being optimistic) 5 characters actively being played right now.

Yeah but what gear?
Just in general, weapons like M4s and etc. After the Blood on the Sands event, some MAA people were complaining that they wanted stronger artillery and vehicles. Despite the fact they were already given stuff like tons of striders, hunter choppers, and armored vehicles like APCs and tanks.

M4s are understandable the artillery and vehichles I cant get behind well maybe APCs but not hunter choppers maybe just like hueys and hinds

to give you context we wanted M4's and access to better artillery because the NRAU Dug in so bad we had to hammer them with air support. Mind you we captured a few of their field guns. We already have T-55's and BTR's it's not an issue armor wise unless we get like challengers or T-90s Probably wont because for w/e reason hl2rp has a hate boner for us having NATO Equipment.
