To be brief. We just tested it out. It's needlessly convoluted, and overly slow. Realism is good and all, but this is just fucking horrendous. Please, for the love of god, remove this sytem, and re-implement the old one.

Alternativley, if you don't like that, use older weapons. Pump action shotguns or revolvers for example don't have magazines. They are loaded with just the bullets/shells themselves.
The M1014 and 870, shotguns that contain no magazine, have no such functionality.
Misinformation or just regurgitated admin chat spew? Just sick of the astroturfing, but I'm already satisfied with the confirmation the update was rushed & incomplete.

The revolvers require mags too :)

One last point, Grass literally stated magazines comes hand in hand with ARC weapons. You cannot have one nor the other. Yet people are still asking he keep the base and remove the mags. As he said, that's impossible so stop asking for it.
I hooked up an Arc CW weapon used on the server to a script I made on the Helix framework with a HL2RP schema and had no issues. What are you talking about? Ammo counter is exactly like TFA (which I really fucking hate and hope we never go back to).
Script pictured isn't word-for-word but hopefully communicates that it's definitely possible to have Arc CW without the cruddy magazine system. 0 coding experience required.
(obviously these pictures don't include the derma used on Willard because it's my own clientside thing I ran to test this theory).

Just changed out the weapon class and everything seems to work fine. I don't have inventory attachments or anything fancy but it should still be obvious that some proprietary willy-server magazine inventory system isn't required for Arc CW to work. I get the finer details of the update were rushed over personal reasons but I don't really understand why the magazine system is being shilled so hard by staff, who I am led to believe had absolutely 0 input or control over the implementation of these systems.

Bottomline is, as the person who made this thread, I'm fine with magazines as long as they're properly implemented. The current state is quite honestly horseshit, all the magazines look the same, which is gonna make it a pain in the ass combat wise. But I can personally deal with it.

I know you can't remove magazines for certain weapons but the fact shotguns and revolvers use magazines in the first place pisses me the fuck off, but I can deal with it.

As long as the system gets refined over time, I'm fine with the system existing. I think you can safely lock this thread, seeing as the conclusion is that magazines will stay but will be improved over time.

B-B-B-But the drama?!?!

As many have already stated, the update was most likely rushed. Most of your concerns, I believe, are already being looked into and will be fixed in a following update. I'm pretty sure the intention was never for it to be in this state, but in favour of having a working weapons system compared to using weapons that dealt 0 damage, it had to be pushed out early. Patches can, patch. Give it some time. There's no need to instill drama or further pressure the developers and just in general cause strife. I think most people are on the same page; the magazines and ArcCW are not ideal at the moment, but they're being worked on.

Hopefully some of the developers can ease everyone's mind with an official statement.

Having tried mags for the first time last night in conscript camp I am amazed that devs would clown players for not understanding how it works. Nothing was explained beforehand, so of course most people would be absolutely lost for the first few days.
It kinda works like ArmA mags but less intuitive, for the first five minutes I was trying to load magazines by right clicking on them until I randomly tried moving ammo directly into them, posting a notice explaining basic stuff like that would have been the smart thing to do.

I'll like to add on more onto this. I do not mean to be rude but nobody had suggested this to be implemented (or if they did, it seems clear now that the majority are not in favor of it and never were). The devs didn't even ask about any feedback. Just dropped this out of the blue.

If this is to play more into 'realism' on a gmod hl2rp server... realism ≠ fun (not always). I know it's a done deal as you mentioned but I think everyone would really prefer more transparancy and asking for feedback especially for such a big change prior to implementation or start development of said change.

After giving this change some thought, I personally find this change interesting, but it's implementation was very poorly done. However, I am excited to see how this will affect combat. But I agree with your statement that we should have gotten forewarning about this change, because it was out of the blue, a massive change to a fundamental aspect.

But seeing as the main arguments have been made, I think that this thread should be closed as denied.

This absolutely should NOT be the case. What a horrible excuse it is.
There's no point arguing this anymore, they made it quite clear the system's staying. But it'll improve, so lets see how it goes.

Okay, few quick changes I did:
  1. Weapons now list the magazine(s) they use in their description so you know which item name to look for (in crafting/vendors)/what specific item to ask from admins/etc
  2. Magazines now also more clearly list the bullets they use (it already said so in the description but I guess people read over that) so you are sure you are getting the right ones
  3. Bullets and magazines should be craftable now (bullet amount is bugged until next restart, most likely automatic restart saturday morning)
  4. All bullets have different models now except for the 2 pulse types which I've just given a different colored outline
  5. Most magazines have a different models now (thanks CSGO for the most part) except for some revolvers/shotguns/misc guns as they don't really have a magazine or I couldn't find a model. Those use the HL2 357 & buckshot models for now so they differ from the bullet models still (which uses ArcCW ammo box models).

Still to be done (in no particular order):
  1. Ammo cache item to efficiently store extra bullets (say 10 stacks of any bullet type in a 2x2 sized item), allow loading of magazines straight from the ammo cache (e.g. drag filled magazine onto ammo cache to empty it into the cache, drag empty magazine onto the cache to fill it up, drag cache onto magazine to fill it)
  2. Fix up some of the last remaining magazine models (Tikhar/M92 mostly)
  3. If matching bullets with magazines is still an issue, I can look into further using colored outlines to match up bullets with magazines. Each bullet type gets its own outline color and all magazines that use that bullet type get the same outline color. So same color = compatible bullet & magazine.
  4. Keeping the magazine in the gun-item when you unequip the gun
  5. Loading weapons without magazines, taking straight from the bullet stacks (e.g. revolvers, tube-fed shotguns, ...)
  6. Look into what attachments we want and make them available via crafting/smuggling/BMD's as needed

I am just reading through this and all i see are people complaining about magazines. Yet you all fail to realize. Something grass has said REPEATEDLY You cannot. Have. The. Guns. Without. The. Magazine. System. Deal with it and move on. Grass likes the system, its modern, and streamlined more or less code wise. Its easier to modify and all that. In general I believe the complaints made in this thread are actually useless points. That have already been thrown away by the devs.

Though on the other hand the base isn't perfect, improvements can be made but I'd say really just kinda bite your tongue and deal with it, its our new weapon base and its so much better then TFA ever was

I will proceed with adding another hardpoint into the underground, a second checkpoint in the slums, allowing all units to have rifles, send out six shadow sweeps, and eat a sandwich until the change is reverted. (This is a shitpost, do not make combine complaint thread #8539539 or I will proceed to actually do the listed things above.)

Anyways, I'll leave this thread open a bit longer but I think we're at the point that this post is basically pretty much over and done with.

you can have it without magazines but go off

Just use ARCW without the mags, ez.

Is there any way to stop the stupid gun from switching magazines every time I raise/lower my gun? It's fucking annoying.
