Evening WN! Hope everyone's had a good Christmas/Happy Holidays

Throughout the mandatory Christmas break I've been doing a lot of thinking and planning in hopes of improving the state of CitizenRP and to also add to the economy in the main server, as there's currently not really much input into the economy for average Citizens other than rations & workshifts. In hopes of doing so effectively and painting a full picture for myself, I'm reaching out to the entire community to pitch in ideas and to encourage people to apply to run a store.

Right now, the City has space for eight additional decently sized stores, and five smaller stores. And at the moment, there are only two applications to take those stores. I encourage anyone who has any interest in managing a store to read here and drop a application, the more a store can encourage passive RP or a new venture in the City, the more it will be supported and encouraged.

There will overall be less focus on profit margins, and more focus on how a store supports and encourages loyalty & activity. Keeping Citizens off the streets or away from any malicious elements will earn rewards, rushing through transactions haphazardly will result in penalties.

To help inspire ideas, I've created a list of businesses that can be used freely in any application as long as it's given enough detail and you're confident you can be active enough to manage it.
A furniture store
- Sells furniture scripts that can be swapped for props to furnish a building or residence, in place of furniture packages currently offered by CWU.
- Dependant on the edict limit, would be limited to x amount of props per person
- Furniture would initially be scripts, similar to how containers work. They would be swapped for a prop by a member of staff or mentor
- Additionally, could hire porters to carry furniture to a place of residence.
A Internet Cafe
- Will be happening once a owner is found

- Allows for much more RP outside of a generic Cafe
- Forum section allows for IC threads to be made, similar to ToothDecayCafe or OldWorldBlues, but with more legitimacy
- Allows for a larger range of events, could be a valuable tool for the Creative Team.
A Actual Restaurant
- Free water/small meals for loyalists
(Paid for by CCA ;) )
- Will serve you at your table, and bring the food to you, then provide a cheque to your table. (Instead of serving you at the counter like 99% of other stores)
- Convenient for 1 to 1 get togethers or conversations
- Can serve and plan for larger gatherings/social events
- Provides entertainment, like music, jokes, tricks, etc.

A Casino
- Gambling is legal under the
Sanctioned Gambling Act
- Could do card games
- Primarily reliant on rolls
- Perhaps expands into 'tournaments' of any games, maybe even Chess.

I encourage anyone who finds any of these interesting to try applying, even if you think others are maybe going for the idea. If a application is good enough, it could be a joint-venture between two players.

Additionally

The manufacturing of some items, like Furniture, would now be done IC, with a limited stock that'd be replenished by workshifts. Anything else that stores might use that could be produced in the City would also get the same treatment as it is slowly rolled out. This stock could also be raided or stolen from. (Obviously nobody would steal furniture, but other things will be stocked)

Now then...

I call on you, the Community. What do you want to see DOB become, and how do you think it could get there? Are the ideas I'm proposing a step in the wrong direction?
Without a doubt, the Community will also need to participate in this for it to go well. But I assure you that I'll listen to any suggestions to make sure Business RP doesn't devolve into a NPC-esque interaction, where the only reason you go into a store is for transactional purposes. They should provide a RP hub for new players, or anyone seeking a change of atmosphere.

DID I READ 'FREE FOR LOYALIST'?! I'm in.

Many Stores Have Been Purged.
Well yeah, most of them got evicted either due to rent or because of inactivity, so there are barely any stores besides the motel in District 7. Most people don't like how the new DoB is being handled, the CWU is busy faction to manage and on top of that they also have to help every shop and shop owner. There has been multiple occasions of trying to get a fridge or stove but were usually waved away with the excuse being "Were too busy to handle that right now." Obviously it's not the biggest deal in the world but could you imagine this being the case with a new restaurant without a stove? I would suggest taking the DOB to its previous state, with one individual managing the entire DOB. As it is now Coronel not only has to manage the CWU but also the DOB and it's becoming more obvious with each day, obviously no fault of his own.

Colonel has hired me IC & OOC to make changes to DOB and it'll be getting most of my focus when Short-Stories doesn't need me so that isn't a concern anymore. I'll also be making it easier for CWU to provide furnishings to Businesses, likely having them made in bulk and then stored awaiting transport by any CWU worker.

I'd like to see the furnishing cause people just get pet flags and dont even rp it

I like this idea. I have some questions and concerns though. Question.
There will overall be less focus on profit margins

How so? As it is right now if I don't make X amount of sales my store closes down. Are you saying you are lowering rent and upkeep costs to boost RP? I'd like you to elaborate on how you are going to focus less on profit margins. Do explain please.

The manufacturing of some items, like Furniture, would now be done IC, with a limited stock that'd be replenished by workshifts.

This is my biggest concern. So if I am making a business I have to wait a week for a workshift to complete so I can put a few stools and a table at my new bar? I had to wait weeks just for my drugs to be finished, I can't imagine how bad it will be now that tons of people will have furniture requests, having to wait so very long just to place a few props.

Have it optional, don't force players to rely on a workshift to be done so they can spawn props for their business/apartment.

Stores that show initiative and are working well as RP hubs will be encouraged, rent will for the most part be abolished. I'll be taking a more hands on approach and doing what I can to monitor stores to make sure they're not just working like a NPC & instead try to engage with the character when they can. It'll be more focused on the effort you actually put in (Server/Character activity, forum/intranet posts, etc) rather than how lucky you are with your store placement & customers.

Workshifts that provide things for the City/Server will be given priority, I'll be aiming to have CWU workers creating furniture as soon as possible once the server starts. Where needed, furniture will be 'imported' if it's not available & is desperately required, but that'll just be at the start while a stockpile is built up. Or perhaps after raids, if somehow the resistance manage to steal the CWU's stockpile of furniture.

But generally, given 'CWU makes us wait too long' is one of the main complaints I've heard, I'll hopefully have the IC power to deal with issues personally or at least reward workers for doing it more promptly.

That actually is awesome. It will definitely encourage me to hire more people and engage more if I don't have to worry about making a weekly profit quota to stay open. Under this new system I can definitely see smaller stores expanding such as mine.

I see.
Perhaps an idea for furniture scripts is instead of crafting individual furniture items at a shift, you can just craft 'furniture packages' which are just boxes of furniture, that are ICly Anything prop related.
That way so if someone orders 10 chairs, then you won't immediately run out of chair props and have to produce more. Just make it easier so we don't have to rely on having a specific prop crafted.

I am glad that we finally have a person that is able to have full attention to the faction and its concerns and making changes that the faction needs I welcome you Hayden and I am looking forward to what you do with the faction.

Would it make sense to make it so that management and supervisors are still the primary people negotiating with store owners and helping them set up and such, while lower-level workers who are in the DoB are the main ones who will be conducting work shifts for said businesses, in addition to working the DoB stall sometimes?

I've been wanting to have a slum pub. Would something that sells custom scripts (ones that CAN'T be turned to the alcohol script) be something that could happen?
It will be like the last drop from Arcane :D

Would be nice to see things like barbershops make a return really missed that we had a good one ran by @RogueSynapse in the early days of WN Irrc. And one later ran by cloudbucket.
1672142414911.png
Beer Gardens/Outdoor patio style restaurants would be nice too an emphasis on revitalization and gentrification of the currently over slummed city.
1672142396122.png
Night clubs anyone? 1672142350138.png
We saw great success in these from @Merlinsclaw in i17 nearly started a city wide insurrection that OTA Needed to be called in to quell. There is loads of opportunity for night clubs to play a role in both facilitating high society loyalists and the seedy underbelly of the resistance along with other illicit means such as drug peddling/weapons and trafficking.

I'd also like to potentially see the return of flower/book shops and bakeries we had a library on V4 For awhile and it was the only active store we managed to pull regular business and supply the city.

Point is there are tons of potential shops that could be done, Problem is majority of shops get taken over by two kinds of businesses.
1. Clothing & Crafting Material stores.
2. Bars.

These make up the absolute bulk of shops and make it increasingly hard for other kinds of shops to open up and sustain.

Most stores thus far got removed for inactivity or abuse (turns out every single store but one had people self-supplying. In some cases, doing it more than they actually sold to people). Nobody failed to pay rent, other than inactive people, to the point where a guy that almost failed to pay at the start of the week got several donations the next day to pay it. One got removed for being a one-man store (we have stalls for that).

Overall, the issue with store RP isnt how its managed or how it works, but it is 100 percent an issue with the players that usually go to it.
I say with complete honesty, and full experience, that the majority of business players are the most exhausting, bordering on toxic, people to interact with, and to go further into honesty Nesh, you were one of them especially the tantrum ping in general over POS devices, and if we didnt go for a separation of stores from factions, I would have landed a kick from the store system.

Doesnt help that the CWU is thrown every single task, and if CPs get wind of it they go "do it now within the next 5 seconds or else we punish you", no matter the actual time limit, ontop of the fact its December (less CWU players available) and the CWU has been getting hit with massive small-deadline mandatory shifts that carry punishments if not done on time, it resulted in most actual orders for stores, and all orders really not just stores, being delayed or outright denied.
The reason most stores dont really exist for long isnt an issue with the store system, but more an issue with people not having a real interest or want in running it, choosing to just open one out of boredom or due to wanting to farm credits/self supply items.
Either that or due to IRL coming up, which nobody can blame or fault.

I've been in the DOB since I joined Willard, been through many stores, why not just turn the DOB back into it's independent faction? These past few weeks have been more than convincing in showing players the CWU can't handle two factions at the same time, probably doesn't help that Veronica left either. I don't think the old DOB system was perfect, but it was a lot better than what we currently have. I think one way to fix/help the DOB is to have the DOB managers be active. I hate waiting days on end just to get a new employee set up.

You are right about me throwing a fit over something so small and I was out of line for doing that, at the time everyone was frustrated with the merge and how things were being handled then again that does not excuse the the fact on how I acted and I do apologize for that.
