Evening WN! Hope everyone's had a good Christmas/Happy Holidays
Throughout the mandatory Christmas break I've been doing a lot of thinking and planning in hopes of improving the state of CitizenRP and to also add to the economy in the main server, as there's currently not really much input into the economy for average Citizens other than rations & workshifts. In hopes of doing so effectively and painting a full picture for myself, I'm reaching out to the entire community to pitch in ideas and to encourage people to apply to run a store.
Right now, the City has space for eight additional decently sized stores, and five smaller stores. And at the moment, there are only two applications to take those stores. I encourage anyone who has any interest in managing a store to read here and drop a application, the more a store can encourage passive RP or a new venture in the City, the more it will be supported and encouraged.
There will overall be less focus on profit margins, and more focus on how a store supports and encourages loyalty & activity. Keeping Citizens off the streets or away from any malicious elements will earn rewards, rushing through transactions haphazardly will result in penalties.
To help inspire ideas, I've created a list of businesses that can be used freely in any application as long as it's given enough detail and you're confident you can be active enough to manage it.

A furniture store - Sells furniture scripts that can be swapped for props to furnish a building or residence, in place of furniture packages currently offered by CWU. - Dependant on the edict limit, would be limited to x amount of props per person - Furniture would initially be scripts, similar to how containers work. They would be swapped for a prop by a member of staff or mentor - Additionally, could hire porters to carry furniture to a place of residence. |
A Internet Cafe - Will be happening once a owner is found - Allows for much more RP outside of a generic Cafe - Forum section allows for IC threads to be made, similar to ToothDecayCafe or OldWorldBlues, but with more legitimacy - Allows for a larger range of events, could be a valuable tool for the Creative Team. |
A Actual Restaurant - Free water/small meals for loyalists (Paid for by CCA - Will serve you at your table, and bring the food to you, then provide a cheque to your table. (Instead of serving you at the counter like 99% of other stores) - Convenient for 1 to 1 get togethers or conversations - Can serve and plan for larger gatherings/social events - Provides entertainment, like music, jokes, tricks, etc. |
A Casino - Gambling is legal under the Sanctioned Gambling Act - Could do card games - Primarily reliant on rolls - Perhaps expands into 'tournaments' of any games, maybe even Chess. |
I encourage anyone who finds any of these interesting to try applying, even if you think others are maybe going for the idea. If a application is good enough, it could be a joint-venture between two players.
Additionally
The manufacturing of some items, like Furniture, would now be done IC, with a limited stock that'd be replenished by workshifts. Anything else that stores might use that could be produced in the City would also get the same treatment as it is slowly rolled out. This stock could also be raided or stolen from. (Obviously nobody would steal furniture, but other things will be stocked)
Now then...
I call on you, the Community. What do you want to see DOB become, and how do you think it could get there? Are the ideas I'm proposing a step in the wrong direction?
Without a doubt, the Community will also need to participate in this for it to go well. But I assure you that I'll listen to any suggestions to make sure Business RP doesn't devolve into a NPC-esque interaction, where the only reason you go into a store is for transactional purposes. They should provide a RP hub for new players, or anyone seeking a change of atmosphere.
