Not really, you just lose your character in a way that keeps them alive and get reset again.
Depends, when you want to continue the Development, then yeah. Which I would like to try out someday how a long time CP feel back as usual Citizen considering CPs are always to the end

Nobodies ever really taken it, so I’m uncertain how that would go.

Either way, LFC needs a bit of rewriting lore wise. Start there, profit.

Two or three people have. They get an MMR procedure that makes them forget the most confidential stuff, then they get released back into the populace as a T-4 loyalist.

I was an i3 goose I hardly think I know "Nothing about it" So don't come swinging at me on the forums like I'm a new player talking out my ass. In CP if you die you lose your SMG or whatever you spent SC on, Your character however receives a demotion. I would take a death demotion and getting standard gear to return back to life over a PK anyday.
That's why children we don't listen to bullshit

LFC lore is being rewritten even members of it's group wish to do so

What I'm about to ask is not a snarky smart ass jab at the faction but a serious and honest inquiry:

What would you say the greatest achievement/acomplishment of the LFC has been since its creation?

shutting down a combine camera

In summary, the system I proposed could be listed out in four points like this:
  1. The LFC has NO BASE and NO PROTECTIONS
  2. The LFC has access to certain resources for them to use to accomplish their goals. These resources need to be carefully tracked (probably with a spreadsheat or something. not that hard)
  3. The LFC whitelist is small (maybe 10 influential characters AT MOST)
  4. The LFC should rarely directly do anything. Rather, they are there to instruct others to do the things they want done, and reward them for doing so.

Fixing Rebel RP requires anyone who wants to be a rebel to fix themselves. Unlike any of the larger factions that are very centralized and controlled by a forum-established hierarchy (CP, CWU, CMU, Groups), there are several disparate resistance groups and many, many lone-wolfs. Change can't come from the top-down, but individual members policing ourselves, and being the individual change that results in a cumulative shift.

It's been 1 month since the last post on this thread about fixing Rebel RP. I wanted to type up this little progress report on how I feel these groups and individuals are doing at meeting @M!NT 's proposed system (which I agree with).

1. No Base, No Protections.
Progress: 100%
Analysis: Me and other members only go to the Outlands for specific missions. Everytime we exist outside of those couple of hours (at most) is in the city map, which is 100% accessible by CP raid.
2. Access to *certain* resources, carefully tracked.
Progress: 100% (from within the group perspective) @Robert has been GM'ing this for us anything that can't be crafted by the average joe.
Analysis: We are in good hands of the Outlands Garage Gate Troll. The troll always demands a toll of good RP. (lol)
3. Small whitelist.
Progress: 100%
Analysis: Keeping the whitelist small is definitely having the intended effect of forcing the group to recruit slummers and average citizens, thereby including them in the roleplay.
4. Rarely direct everything. Handle the assets, don't be the asset.
Progress: 50%
Analysis: We are still building up networks, and not all groups are on board, so it's a WIP. I hope this image below builds some faith that the 50% number is at least a good 50% for what's there. Everyone pictured never participated in a Rebel op prior. It was impromptu and they were nervous, and some were absolutely scared. It was great and as it should be. Faces cut off to protect their identity from any meta-gaming David Schraders out there tryna bust the Lambda Fried Chicken Chain (LFC) outside the rules of the law.

I personally have a fifth rule when RebelRP'ing.

(My) 5. Don't PK people.
Create RP with capture interrogation RP and eventual release. No point in taking RP by Pk'ing characters for your own survival / self-gain. Small guide on how to workaround capture (counterpoint: What if a CP/OTA/Citizen *needs* to be killed?). Here's to get your RP results without the PK. Shoot or stab directly in the back of the neck. If you have a blunt instrument, one on the brachial nerve. I don't care what RP world you're in, someone takes a penetrating wound through the esophagus or bult force to the brachial nerve, and 3 things happen that let you get what you needed without the PK:

1. When shooting or stabbing in the neck as opposed to the head that would PK, the carotid is missed, and the person does not die from mass hemorrhaging. Instead, the vocal chords are potential severed, and at least one entry wound is created in the esophagus.
2. Not only do they not bleed out and die, but they cannot scream and alert others, or speak and radio due to a penetrated esophagus and damaged chords. Even vocoder masks have to stop and start somewhere before entering the kevlar covering the back of the neck. Find that nook and exploit. WARNING: GRAPHIC IMAGE BELOW.

1675330380671.png

3. The cluster of nerves in the throat and the damage to internal organs sends even the strongest person into almost immediate shock. They are stunned to allow for 1 or 2 additional actions from you without the ability to react. It's physically impossible for the target to /me anything other than be stunned (standing, falling down, grabbing throat, etc.). But they are not unconscious until you use those 1 or 2 actions to apply a follow-up incapacitating strike with the weapon to the temple area, and again for a second time if they have a mask or helmet. They are incapacitated (/charfall), but not dead. And if you shot them from behind, they won't know your identity. Likewise, if you have a crowbar, hammer, flashlight, or any blunt instrument, hitting the brachial nerve sends them into immediate incapacitation. But brachial pinch-trauma induced incapacitation requires iC practice. It's hard to do in real life unless you've done it before or trained on someone else.

1675330336007.png

And since they are just knocked out, they can be healed when you leave and RP another day (all those RP opportunities no longer taken away from other players), or they can come along for the ride and experience prisoner RP, interrogation RP, beinglootedRP (lol just made that up), any consensual-within-rules torture RP, and finally their Survival, Escape, Resistance and Evasion (SERE) RP, or prisoner exchange RP with the Combine, or release RP. So many more opportunities that aren't destroyed by a one /me creating a character ban.

(LFC WAS SUPPOSED TO DO THIS) build a community of refugees out in the slums. Use the items coming from their supply lines to act as supplies for the community. ICly find capable characters and delegate the following tasks to them.
  1. Build a clinic (Not Yet Accomplished). LFC will need to start working on this one.
  2. Clean up the decrepit and abandoned buildings. (Accomplished). Individual groups and businesses have made great use of the slum space to create community infrastructure.
  3. Set up a kitchen to feed the needy, and the kitchen via supply lines. (more impactful if death from hunger/thirst is turned back on) (In Progress). This one is my personal target, and we owe it to @Joltastic and we are nearly there (waiting for the server to open on Friday) - https://willard.network/forums/threads/robert-iancu-the-slummer.8232/
  4. Enact a list of rules for the community, and pick characters to see to it that those rules are followed. (Accomplished) - Already by @Juicy https://willard.network/forums/threads/liberation-front-coalition-rules.7255/
Bottom Line: @Robert gave me a Substantial amount of in game chips to start building up the LFC community outreach projects that M!INT has suggested previously, after @Ron Goodfella donated his golden wristwatch to make this RP possible. The amount was very substantial. I personally promised I would not use the funds to set up a new chain of LFC (Lambda Fried Chicken), or even set up an off-world bank account to enact my my plan for a zoned City 24 Luxury Resort and Casino (Tables, Showgirls, Midnight Show). We have the means to start doing this (building community infrastrutcure not the Resort and Casino (Tables, Showgirls, Midnight Show). Myself and other LFC members are actively doing more than what resistance fighters used to - commit acts of terrorism or commit crimes and under the guise of "good." We are handing out free money, food and drinks to slummers who are oppressed. We are recruiting people to join us in the Outlands who normally may not pass the riddle check of the Outlands GM Troll. We are involving people to be couriers or spies who don't want to get involved in action RP by making RebelRP digestible to anyone's RP desire. Couple this community outreach with my rule #5 "Don't PK," and you have a recipe to build RP, not take RP away for your own personal RP value or "self-gain." My advice to any Rebels reading this thread: "Don't exist to self - gain. Our role is supporting and we are going to P2L eventually."

Biggest Advice to Other Resistance Groups (Those other than Lambda Fried Chicken chain): Create systems, not hoard resources. So when the map changes, we keep our systems when we lose our resources. Unfortunately there are some resistance groups who (I won't name), if they don't start changing as individuals and groups, will lose everything on the next map change (whenever that is), because they only invest in scavenging and resources. Invest in the average citizen.

Please post any feedback to the LFC feedback thread - https://willard.network/forums/threads/liberation-front-coalition-feedback-thread.8013/

I'm going to post updates to this thread once a week on Wednesdays until this complaint / suggestion is solved. We will fix Resistance RP. Even if it's at the pace of one IRA terrorist cell at a time.

...How did that get there?

Bruh they have a fucking arctic base and a naval fleet in Greenland, They've done fuck all since they were brought in, The LFC was supposed to be the turn around for the rebellion and is instead basically a gate keeping faction that does nothing but hide in outlands and instruct gang bangers to go harass loyalist businesses and murder civilians for chips (See the motel job.)

The LFC's plot armor is fucking immense in lore, Even the SRF/ESIC/PATRIOTS Three of the largest rebel factions in lore two of which are an actual fucking Military don't have their own fleet and a host of lore bases/supply system, Yet LFC has that and SRF have done more on server than the LFC Have in forever, SLF -Which is the city branch of the SRF tried to host a nearly successful insurrection in January of 2022 (Cluster fuck but still the effort was made.) LFC as it stands is a joke, It had potential and like usual it's squandered.

Look at this shit! Where is this icly? they could be recruiting people from local cells or recruiting cells to fight under their banner arming supplying and training them, The sheer amount of resources they have are wasted, These people in lore destroyed an MAA Outpost in the fucking arctic and essentially own a continent to themselves unopposed, The LFC on the server? A few people running around in the Outlands with bandana's and basic rebel gear.

It's just a little jarring to me how we're two years in and the Resistance on main hasn't really changed how it looks and operates at all, They've made 0 efforts to unify collectively, They don't train they don't share resources, they refuse to plan a course of action and set in motion a plan to defeat the combine forces in Geneva or atleast heavily cripple them and cause chaos.

IMO a good rebel group should do a few things.
It should be secretive (Naturally).
It should share resources among members.
It should have an end-game goal.
It should go on events and make sure it's members receive atleast a barebones level of training whether that means using and stripping an AK47 or setting an ambush for combine forces or somewhere in between.
It should create rp that contributes to the narrative of an overarching story.
It shouldn't be morally good or overtly evil but neutral or in-between.
It should be inclusive giving players opportunities to fulfil roles based on their characters abilities. (I.E Soldiers, Engineers, Informants, Supply-runners)

And that's another thing, They have all these resources, Members a fucking fleet including submarines, Why don't we ever see LFC Radio to headquarters or whatever to send supplies via submarine? Have rebels launch an expedition/convoy where lets say the city has lost rations because they fucked up and people are starving to death as a result they have to meet the submarine on a coastline and make the difficult decision on the way back whether they should subsist on the rations to satiate themselves and thus have a better reaction in-case combine forces intercept them or save all the supplies for the starving citizens.

Resources! They have all these godamn resources that could be used to facilitate rp and missions or whatever, With the gear and resources the LFC have they could easily gather rebels up to even raid Meiringen if they wanted to, You would have intensely high risk but would have the reward of military equipment/vehicles and maybe even information - Not to mention you could possibly cripple the OSF's operations in the region the fact that the LFC Have all of this technology and the logistics to back these things up and we never see it honestly really pisses me off the sheer wasted potential of the LFC, I'd really like if it's not outright dissolved for the CT To grab the LFC By the ear and start doing things with it, You have the lore reasoning to where say you needed to raid a combine facility you could request some high valued hardware (Vests RPGs Machine guns) for a large heist If something drastic like this isn't done then I see no reason for the LFC To remain as it's essentially just a status symbol for the people with whitelists and it's unfortunate as I really had high hopes for the LFC.

a rebel group can never be any of this because if it becomes big and strong enough to take real and meaningful action, it will get stomped out of existence

the combine cannot lose on a 24/7 server because it is no longer hl2rp then

this has been the issue of willard for YEARS, long before i joined the server, and long after i left as CM; the resistance can never win because any tangible results on the combine will lead to a huge crack down, either ICly (the entire city gets razed to the ground, a special intelligence group finds all intel of rebels and rats them out, OTA patrols 24/7 for weeks), or OOCly (told to tone down operations, pressure from management, etc.)

in order to keep a 24/7 server going you must stay consistent and formalic; much like the crafting system is a necessary evil for a large(r) community as the management cannot keep up with the script needs of tens of hundreds of rebels over the weeks, months, year(s), but this in turn causes a slow but inevitable death of the community

this is because, at the core of roleplay, is story telling and all stories have a beginning, middle, end, with proper conflict, villain(s), hero(s), turning points, etc. and willard doesn't have a proper end and i dare say not even a proper middle; expeditions and the storytelling that came from those was the closest vehicle for the middle of a story that willard has gotten and i don't have the qualifications to judge how far willard has gotten on that front since ive left for months on end but considering what ive read on the forums, the same patterns i had to deal with as CM are repeating themselves now (nacht and wardens conflict and the issues that arose from it are a mirror of this LFC debate)

tl;dr this is just a symptom of a lack of proper storytelling and plot, and a whitelist rebel group isn't the problem, its the lack of it being used as a vehicle for storytelling from what i can tell from my limited perspective as someone who's only read the forums

What constitutes winning in your opinion?
A city take over? Not without a full uprising, which will lead to a character wipe pretty much. Might be a cool way to send off V2 and welcome V3.

Smaller wins absolutely can happen. CCA assassination, destruction of key targets, de stabilising a district. Consider what the wardens did in lore, threatening CPs family might be a fun storyline. A rebel could break into the nexus somehow, get classified information, organise an expedition and kidnap some RLs family.

In the end my good friend, forget about winning or losing on the grand scale. Every character must die. Give them a fun story to tell. Whether it be that CP that believed in humanity, or that rebel that gave out food as his small act of resistance.

what i constitute as a win is a grand victory or grand loss

for example:

a grand victory would be, step by step, the complete dismantling of the combine's overall grip on the planet through the destruction of their outposts, the deconstruction of their energy nodes that supply or outright power their technology such as the stabilization of the overworld portal that leads to the combine's main strategic command center, etc. that will create a new phase of human existence; that of the struggle of humanity against the human combine elements (loyalists, CP's still loyal to combine, transhumans) to take back the planet

this would take multiple campaigns such as expeditions, map changes to reflect the changes said expeditions do, the deterioration of social order, missions to get supplies / trade with nearby cities which can further be disrupted by rebels or reinforced by combine campaigns, etc. in a fluid struggle where your actions have more meaning than a week long CWU cleanup effort

thats what i mean by a story having a beginning, middle, and end. right now willard is still in its "beginning" phase; its not shifting towards a greater story arc that has meaningful impact on the server at large and probably never will because that requires not only taking risks, but also the fact that there is an end implies that hl2 (as we know it) will also end, and you can't have that in a 24/7 server that requires stability.

everything you just said, such as kidnapping a RL's family, has no real stake or continued story arc just like how blowing up the RDT for the 100th time has no meaning if there is no follow up to said action. willard is basically a gigantic slice of life anime episode that never really progresses, or as one player accurately described to me back when i played the server more actively, "a constant groundhog day; all kinds of goofy and exciting stuff happens one day and then it all resets the next day".

A rebel victory...

A rebel victory does not mean taking full control of the city, a rebel victory does not mean the ability to constantly antagonize the Union, a rebel victory does not mean a warehouse full of AKs-grenades-ammo-and armor.
.
A rebel victory is the restoration of civilization outside of the combine's direct reach - something that was in the works when I played on V3. Rebels in Half-Life 2, and Half-Life Alyx did go on to attack the Union but not for the purpose of murdering and maiming collaborators, they focused on destabilizing combine infrastructure, providing passage to refugees, and maintaining their sanctuary's (Black Mesa East, as an example) security. Rebels in lore did end up - taking this from Half-Life 2 Episode 2 - levying a full war against the combine but that would be after unrealistic events that wouldn't be seen in the server so the whole thought of 'Rebels did do this in Half Life' could simply be shot down.
.
This touches into the actual meaning of restoring a civilization. Rebel character's are granted, for every map, have an area out of the Union's direct reach. V3 we saw the slums and storm system, the combine could go into them via sweeps launched by civil protection or raids by Overwatch's Transhuman Arm but this wasn't something done on a daily basis so essentially the 'slummers' had control over this area. Despite having full control over this area they did nothing with it... There was no communal effort to restore their living area, no group talks on getting essential supply trails, nothing about the unorganized criminal cells causing constant invasion of the slums, and so on... I saw this and believe it was the right idea to open a community center... Made perfect sense as it'd jump-start a small place to where 'slummers' could convene, meet one another, and discuss plans. Played a generous character and gave time to gather resources, and reach out to the CWU Lead (Col Jones) to get a business with my idea, everything was put together and things got on their way. The center was launched and 'rebels/slummers' were given a place to convene and meet other slums or simply take this example and apply it in another way - a clinic, hostel, tailor, washer, anything with the motto of doing something for the collective good. No one did anything, a lot of roleplay came from it, for the most part, it was just a place character's came and ate at. The idea flew over a lot of people's heads.
.
Restoring civilization and creating a collective good system for the areas that 'belong' to rebels would be a rebel victory, it should be the goal of self-proclaimed rebels as they can never achieve a battle victory so it is better to sit down and see the option of a pyrrhic one. The slums unified to stand up to what was once a life of the characters they played, enjoyed, and had in the past. Restoring power, getting proper sleeping areas, rebuilding the slums, keeping crime/resistance efforts organized, manufacturing propaganda, and overall raising and providing a better quality of life to those not assisting in the progress of the Union, the refugees, wanted felons, and outcasts...
.
TL:DR... LFC should be disbanded and players should be among themselves to unify the slums (The actually achievable victory), all through roleplay, rather than them looking up at an OOC rebel group to do it.

See the thing with destabilization is you need to do things like targeted bombings...ambushes and high end assassinations maybe shootings? but instead of how on server say for example, A guy fires his gun off in slums and cps go out socio becomes orange and OTA Sit on the roof doing nothing for a few hours. It has to be relentless, In hl2rp the wiki states that for 2 solid weeks the rebels had constantly hit Civil Protection to the point where they were so Overwhelmed OTA Was called in, On WN? OTA is *Here* So you're going to need to ambush a CPT then bomb a hardpoint then spray-paint graffiti in the same day and repeat.

On Willard our cool-down or auths board would ruin/make this impossible or atleast unfeasible for any group even if collectively done amongst all groups in agreement and done as a choreographed effort.

Two Week long period of Destabilization to Uprising

For example --->

Mon. CP-1 is bombed at 11am 2 hours later A CP is shot at or just shot in general somewhere near slums, Then resistance propaganda is found, A little while after someone fires off a gun one of the stray bullets lands through a window or cracks a camera/tele screen in main.
Tues. a CP team is lured into a kill-zone an IED Goes off and a small group of rebels kill or maime them then dash off into the slums or blend in with the civilian populace using stashes within the city and minimalist equipment (I.e On attack you wear basic shit that you wouldn't normally, Maybe a vest and a mask aka something you can toss in a bin after and wash your hands of responsibility. Later a Molotov cocktail is lobbed at a member of the CLC/CCA's event maybe they're inside a store or business and are guarded by OTA/CPs.
Wed CP response times and insertion patterns are studied and another IED or some form of bombing is readied, A rebel in full gear goes into the city to cause general chaos and lure them into another Kill-zone where 2 other rebels will be waiting once the CPs are lured there a bomb will go off they will fire shots at the cps and disperse. Later seeing as by now Food will likely be turned off an effort is made to distribute either captured ration supplies or produce in the slums to effected groups, (Those not priority citizens or employed.)
Thurs. After methodic research on areas of attack a group of hopeful insurgents have captured a suitable amount of Xenian growth or mold as it's occasionally called and having successfully severed it discard the mold in several places I.E a locked isolated room or in a key area so it can grow and become a thorn in the cities response teams side. Later that day a High ranking Loyalist/Party member (Anastasia, Ron good fella, Mulligan) Are to give a speech, The rebels have discerned this from insiders and have prepared a rifle in a nearby apartment or room which will be facing the event, From here the attempt on the individual's life is made if not in this way perhaps a more irrational or ill prepared attempt (a suicide attack via bomb or rushing up and popping rounds off at the target) is made.
Fri. After a week of chaos and anarchy having been underway there are efforts to fortify/barricade a portion of slums off, Armed defenders may possibly take up positions in the area hopefully using apartment/windows and IEDs to their advantage in-order to create more chaos, Perhaps agent provocateurs have prepared by now to leak disturbing news to the people of the city via a hacked tele-screen or some other media (IMS Experimenting on prisoners, CLC Gulags in the outlands) also by now perhaps insignificant and easy to come by weapons (Kitchen knives & Hatchets are distributed to citizens or slummers to help expedite violence and cause even more de-stabilization (Gang attacks and violence increase creating another issue for CPs to have to deal with adding more pressure.
Sat Improvised weaponry are employed to some degree at this point whether that looks like some archaic catapult or an Improvised artillery weapon maybe it's something innovative like a home made grenade launcher or a salvaged APC ATGM turned against the city CP forces. By now CP's have likely adopted a harsher posture it's possible you see them carrying M4's or something and patrolling in larger more coordinated groups, and like CPs you need to scale your level of aggression and tech to match or atleast suppress them. As a rebel your most potent and valued weapon is improvising. By now if successfully left undetected the Xenian mold has likely begun spreading and terraforming, The importance of using Xenian cannon fodder I.E Antlions should not be under-estimated as they can be invaluable for wearing down the enemy.

((Remember, It's not 100% necessary to kill your target in-order to succeed but think of every act of chaos as contributing to a bar much like well you guessed it, A video game, We want to get that bar full enough that Uprising is the endgame goal))

Targets and recommended Goals.

In addition to causing chaos and anarchy via the city cells outside Military centers are going to need to be hit, (I.E AirWatch field, Camp Geneva, Maybe OCIN towers or the transit/train system as these can be ways of hitting logistics, If AirWatch is hit that will hinder or outright prevent C24 CP from resupplying gear/ammunition & other critical supplies and will eventually erode morale to the point where CPs feel desertion is a better option than to continue fighting for an administration that can't even afford to put bullets in their guns where as by contrast the resistance will appear as a decently organized and oiled machine despite being largely decentralized as far as smaller cells are concerned.

This level of targeted relentless attrition and targeted violence needs to happen to the point where CP is exhausted and in-order for it to happen OTA MUST take a back seat until the CCA & CP admit they've lost control of the situation and need Military support. Imo that's how OTA Should work in the city, Even if shit has hit the fan the OTA Deployed in the NEXUS Should remain In the nexus, You don't deploy your rear guards forward into the slaughter unless the orcs are about to bust inside of the castle, OTA's job should primarily be if anything defending the nexus and combine tech, CCA should be a third and less important objective.

(Uprising Example, PER HL2)

Efforts begin(===Week 1 ==================-Destabilization- =============== Week 2==================) Uprising attempt

@Anilife Otherwise we can just keep doing what the rebels have done for the past 2 and a half years and remain stagnant if you'd prefer to continue doing slice of life anime rp featuring god cops who cant die and get all the events made for them

Removing clover wont help the LFC at all lol. Clover is just a background group, who incidentally the LFC have managed to piss off numerous times. The LFC can become something, but those within it need to work on building connections with other groups in the district, be less arrogant in character (PF has had enough of this now and that's entirely why she acts how she does). LFC leads are struggling to find things to do, hence one or two going on LOA. Its not easy to make events for a faction. Rather than asking them to step down, try supporting them first, giving your idea's and such. The faction cannot grow without the support of its members primarily.
CLover have been here to help, in fact clover have done plenty so far as providing food, materials, guns and etc to the rebels as well as getting them all to know each other and host events more RP focused, but in the end? What did I see? rebels running at scripts head first and blowing up to booby traps or being ravaged by antlions DESERVED. Change your way of thinking, then we can talk.
